Personally, I think that because of the giant mod community behind these games (see above) anything under $10 is extremely good value for money. Even without mods, the games are amazing (with the exception of Clear Sky, I hate to admit).

I still played through Clear Sky, but it does seem to pale in comparison to SoC and CoP. But you're right, under $ 10 is good value for a series which offers so many hours of fun even in it's vanilla form. To be honest, though, with all the hours I've played between SoC, clear sky, and CoP, I've never once tried a mod.

You owe it to yourself to play Oblivion Lost. I guarantee you will love it. It's the sheer amount of stuff they put in. Zombies, mutants (3 new kinds), guns, weather effects, random blowouts and of course: night-time. Oh and you can fully explore Chernobyl Power Station now.
Trust me. Go download 1.005 patch and then Oblivion Lost 2.2 It's easy to set it up, if you have problems PM me or post here.

Alright I'll try and set it up this weekend when I get home from work.
I tried Oblivion Lost. It was pretty fun, not gonna lie but it just wasn't for me. Especially near the end of the game where the person talks about his adoration of Dwarves, zombies, and all of that just made it feel too goofy for me. Call me a tryhard, but yeah. Was well made, though, and I can see why you like it.
I'm just a massive AMK fanboy. God, all dem anomaly's.
Played Shadow of Chernobyl again yesterday, and I realized how easy it is to get artifacts. They literally light up and the only attempt they make to stop you from grabbing them is an obvious anomaly. I really don't like SoC as much as I do CoP. There's some good moments, like the first time you find a bloodsucker/psi-mutant/pseudogiant, but after that initial "OH GOD RUN AWAY OR JUST SHOOT IT" moment you become used to it and it goes back to being a very, very easy game, even with most of the mods.
CoP has the same issue at points, with artifacts being worth *so* much and you being able to get most of the best weapons in the very first location. It also got a tad bit cheap when enemies started using Gauss rifles. It added some artificial difficulty in just being cheap.
It may sound like I don't like the games, but I thoroughly enjoyed playing them. The atmosphere is the best I've seen in games so far, and the gameplay is far from bad. Don't get me started about Clear Sky though...
Please don't bump a thread if you have literally nothing to contribute. I opened it hoping there was Stalker 2 information or at least a nice video.. or anything but two words -_-
It sounds like you should try the game on a harder setting Barteh ^.^
I find that the difficulty setting changes very little as far as actual difficulty goes. As someone stated before me, with proper use of cover and being able to aim, you should take little to no damage at all. And anomalies only change their damage dealt, and if you're getting caught in those you'll probably die on any setting.
Maybe the next STALKER game will bring something more to the table as far as that goes. Of course, mods could fix it, but they bring along their own set of problems. And hey, after beating it 3 times, it's not worth going through it again with on a more difficult setting, in my eyes.
And even if CS worked properly, I think it would still be overshadowed by SoC's success. I kind of see it like Invisible war to Deus Ex. Oh well.
Does anyone know anything about the .45 smrter release?
Q: When will you release S.M.R.T.E.R. Pripyat v0.45? A: When it's done. I cannot estimate a date or percentage or whatever because it's an ongoing process, I add stuff all the time and there can be unforseen issues that might delay the release, I'll take the time I need to finish it and to provide an atmospheric and stable gameplay experience.
Q: What size will the mod be? A: It's currently around 9GB unpacked.
Q: How many levels can we expect in S.M.R.T.E.R. 0.45? A: The mod currently features 37 maps
Q: How many new weapons did you put in? A: Around 200 guns (vanilla ones included).
Q: How do you plan on distributing the mod? A: Due to it's size, a torrent release is likely.
This was back in March. It's been 2 years since .41 I've always wanted to play .45 but I can't find any new information on it (other than it probably being dead)
So I'm bumping this thread to talk about two mods. The first for Call of Pripyat, and the second for Shadow of Chernobyl.
Misery Mod
Basically, this mod is aiming to make CoP legitimate. Those experienced in SoC and CoP know that CoP just doesn't give that same STALKER experience as well as SoC does. It's a fun game, don't get me wrong -- I logged over 100 hours so far on it, but it just isn't the same. It feels more....actiony than SoC and less survival.
So what does this mod aim to do, specifically? It makes the Zone more dangerous, more scary, and more realistic. Artifacts no longer are easy win, bullets can potentially kill you in one shot -- making the side-strafing exploit no longer possible and making you have to choose your fights and use cover. Updating graphics to give a more "Stalker"-esque feel, but not so much to the level of COMPLETE that it breaks immersion. Add into the fact of about 100+ new guns, and a dichotomy of old, but sturdy and reliable weapons or new, high tech but extremely easy to break and wear fast weapons and you got a whole new bucket of awesome.
To copy paste some of the more outstanding changes. Do know, there is MUCH more being changed, this is just the most important ones in my opinion.
* NPCs turn to Zombies if not safely hidden during emissions. * The maximum weigth you can carry is lowered but you run slightly faster now when not over-encumbered. * Bandages only stops bleeding. * New cool screen effects when firing a weapon (resembling recoil shock/shake effects). This effect varies depending on the caliber fired. * Your flashlight does not illuminate your weapon any more (only when reloading and sprinting) which makes it easier for your eyes to focus on the environment during darkness. * 3GB RAM enabled for system engine (prevents crashes on lower end pc's) * Very little food and good drinks found in The Zone making them more valuable. * Zombified stalkers are mindless wanderers that attack everything and are killed effectively only with headshots. (this is substantial because before, you could just easily farm zombies and get lots of weapons and ammo from them. Now they are far more tough.) * No warnings, task messages or safezone indications on pda during emmisions (only sirens) * Universal silencer has been removed: You will need the correct sound suppressor variant for your weapon caliber * Seek a more natural day/night rhythm without drugs if you want to avoid a blurred vision caused by headache or the need for recreation and rest. * Food don't restore your health. * There are no difficulty settings to choose from with this mod. There will be MISERY only and the mod will form a huge challenge for rookie Stalkers. * Minimal HUD: no grenade warnings, no hit indicator * The FOV is now 75' (expanded) * Your aim is wavering to reflect your breathing when aiming through optic scopes. Your stance influences your aim (dont snipe from standing position). * All upgrades cost 25% more than vanilla * 50% less reward money for completed missions/quests
There's literally 4x the amount of changes I linked here, I just don't want to link them all for the sake of redundancy. Those are some of the biggest ones though, however, there are some HUGE changes that is going to make this game so much more fun.
Now, I never liked LURK 1.1 or 1.05. They were just horrible in my opinion. Low work ethic from the mod creator, horrendous changes that tried to make it more immersive when in fact it just made it more bullshit. However, he passed the project on to someone else far more dedicated, and the original mod creator is simply using his influence to spread the word about it. So you can expect something totally different from this one, and I personally am hyped for it. As it promises something similar to MISERY, except for SoC -- a true STALKER experience. Except, guess where a lot of the changes and influences are coming from? That's right, Metro 2033.
There's no much released right now, but we know it's coming out "soon" and the summary page is all dedicated to a LURK 1.2 discussion from the creator. They seem to be changing a lot of what made the mod bullshit and adding a lot of cool stuff to the game. I don't want to try to describe it and do it poorly, so please, just follow the link and read for yourself
The Misery mod sounds amazing, but there's been no news since Nov 21 and no download link to test so far. Do we know if they are still working on it ? I would assume so, but i'm dying to give this a go :D
Edit: Found a post from the author from Dec 17, Saying beta testing has been done, so i'll just have to be patient i guess :D

Haha, it's being released Friday the 13th in January
He's been posting in the comments sections, replying to answers and everything recently as well, as in, 2 days ago recently so he's staying active. I can't wait.

That's amazing. Cheers for bumping the thread :D

By the way, go to the "Video" section of the Misery mod and listen to the "Sound Test", it's testing the gun sounds. They are just....oh lord. So good.
Lurk -_- have always been meh and I just read about a thousand words of unsubstantial "We this and we'll be changing that". Anyway MISERY is nice. It'll be even better if it doesn't conflict with AtmosFear.
Shame S.M.R.T.E.R. will /cough never be finished lol. I don't have any knowledge but it's been 2 years since the last update.

MISERY is using an updated version of AtmosFear, if I recall correctly, in itself. So...
And yeah, LURK may very well fuck up just like the last ones -- but I'm definitely keeping an eye on it.
Also, a very interesting aspect of MISERY is the "class" system it will employ. Since you're a USS agent, you get to choose between 3 separate archetypes.
-Minimap shows no enemies or dead bodies, only traders and your cooperatives -Unique version of AtmosFear3 with special designed sky textures, weather behavior, suns and god rays
