Still, it's rather annoying trying to offload weapons by buying a repair kit, saving, reloading, buying another repair kit, saving, reloading. Tedious but possible. It'd be nice if Stalkers/general npcs would purchase weapons with a durability of 50% or greater at 75% of the traders price.

http://www.dezowave.com/ It's a huge mod. Rumored to be over 5gb in size. Completely new levels, over 20 in number. After 4 years in development, it should come out this year. SUPER HYPED!!!

They usually need a specific patched version. Like AMK doesn't work on the Steam version without a lot of work because it's patched too high.

I recommend the following tweaks: Stamina: [Patch 1.2 solves this] your character runs out of stamina very quickly, partly due to the lowered weight limit. It was pretty horrendous in version 1.0, but now it should be fine Zombie health: You might have to download a custom tweak (or do it yourself if you can) to change this, as by default in the mod the only way to kill a zombie is with a headshot, and given that they're somehow ridiculously accurate, your life will be a living hell if you don't change some of the values here Other than that, there really isn't much you have to change. The graphics and effects are absolutely amazing, and the guns in particular are the best I've seen in any game. They've done a good job with increasing the damage done by all weapons so there's always a risk in fighting, and while you die very quickly if you play too aggressively, if you know what you're doing you can also take out enemies quickly too. As the amount of supplies dropped by enemies and found in stashes has been reduced dramatically, you now have to make choices about whether or not to kill someone - it is worth the risk and ammo? Can I go around this guy? I like that you're forced to think about your decisions now rather than just going around killing everything, which you could pretty plausibly do in the original CoP after less than an hour's worth of missions and scrounging. Mutants (and gunfire, if you've taken a bit hit) can knock weapons out of your hands now, which is really cool, as even dogs which weren't frightening at all originally can now tear you up if you aren't careful. All in all, it's made CoP one of my favorite shooters, and I'm bumping this to say that if you haven't tried it... you're missing out.

Zone of Alienation for ShoC is the mod that needs love. For anyone that has beaten the games repeatedly and wants a better challenge, download it right now. -No UI (UI is for babbys) -Die in 1-2 shots (realism.jpg) -AMK based (invisible anomalies and deadly blowouts) plus all the awesome that AMK brings -Load your own magazines (No more magical straight from the box into the receiver. You have to stand there and hand load bullets into magazines to load your gun) -When you and NPCs get shot you bleed to death (clip a guy in the chest and he'll stand there and bleed out if he doesn't have any bandages) -Improved AI, Weather

Ironic that such devastation occurred as the result of a safety test gone awry. I never truly understood the scope of Chernobyl until now. Thanks for the article, gn1k. It's a grim, but necessary reminder of what happened back in '86. ANYWAY, back to killing people for some cans of tuna.

ANYWAY, back to killing people for some cans of tuna. What bothered me more than the pictures were the comments below. Sure, I play these games and like to pretend it's real. But I don't forget that nearly three dozen lost their lives immediately and countless (thousands?) died of radiation poisoning because of it. Reading the comments though, they sound like statements written in all the gravity of getting away from their boring lives.

Basically I want the experience to be as immersive, (weather changes, night/day, realistic weapon damage, scarcity of supplies etc) and challenging as possible. I don't really care about how shiny and pretty the graphics are, (though enhancements aren't unwelcome) but having weather cycles/realistic night and day system is pretty important for my enjoyment of RPGs. There's tonnes of mods out and everybody recommends different things. Can anybody point me towards the mod(s?) that suit the experience i'm looking for. Thanks.

![]() (click for full size) Also relevant, you may just want to grab a starter pack so you can play vanilla and the proper game before so many enhancements ![]() ![]()
