I was really on the fence until I saw the picture showing bullet damages. Head/neck is one shot, spine or close to the spine is ~80%, and so on and so forth. It's just so fucking godly, there's like ~20 different locations of different damage modifiers. Add in all that shit about calibers making differences of recoil, silencers, etc. and I'm sold.
+ Show Spoiler +No Fallout is :| worthy though
It's gonna be intense though when Emissions come. No warnings on PDA or anything just Sirens and having to hide all the bodies I can so zombies don't fuck my shit.

I'm very curious to know what weights have been tweaked. Depending on which of the three classes you pick your carry weight will range from 30-40 kilos.. A) That's going to make looting the entire world suck but that's always cool. Lower weight limits actual make you CHOOSE to kill or not to kill. + Show Spoiler +I mean why not farm bandits? Leaving Skadovsk to hunt for artifacts? Kill a few bandits on your way there and no matter what happens you'll have paid for the trip!
Now .. it's an actual decision. Yay. Also, yeah, anything reducing the hud and increasing the immersion/difficulty is great. I don't know if this will make it more like SoC but I .. don't really think that's what people should look towards? That was the first of 3 great games. Hopefully STALKER2 is faithful to the series- but builds on it. HOPEFULLY they look at mods like this and take inspiration \o/
Anyway you're a jackass I can't believe I have to wait until the 13th.

Hey, you expect me to sit here in my hype alone? Have to drag more people in
I just hope them saying it's compatible with Steam version is true, because I'd be pretty peeved if I had to do some stupid shit to make it work. But I'll take his word on it until something goes wrong. And yeah, the weight change is fucking huge and makes you pick your fights, which is awesome. I mean, 40kg is a little over 80lbs(?), which seems like a really realistic number, when you think about it. Most STALKER's are in fact civilians and the like trying to get a quick buck in the Zone, and since you are someone trying to blend in it wouldn't make sense to be carrying around all this shit
Perhaps that's just me nitpicking, though.
And I dont' think people want it to be more like SoC. In reality, SoC was very meh, but the atmosphere and world was fucking amazing, mods made the game itself awesome too. CoP has awesome gameplay, but its atmosphere is extremely lacking and I feel that this mod will fix that.

I was sold on post-apocaliptic climates when I started playing Neuroshima. Therefore I would expect suitable scenery and atmosphere from a game of this kind more so than complex mechanics or outstanding graphics.
I am not a huge FPS fan. Well, not a fan at all, one might say, as I don't remember playing a game of this genre in quite a few years. I am aware that this one is not your average run-with-a-gun-and-kill-everything game.
Should I get it?

If you're expecting suitable scenery and atmosphere moreso than complex game mechanics or outstanding graphics this may just be the game for you. Do know, however, it may not be your standard cowadooty shooter -- but it still can be exceptionally difficult. Vanilla SoC on normal isn't that big of a deal for newer people to the FPS genre, but it's still much harder than your standard bullshit. Survival plays a HUGE aspect. SoC has by far the best atmosphere, vanilla, of all the games. AMK for SoC makes the game hard as fuck, LURK 1.2 will (theoretically) make it far more realistic, and COMPLETE is ass, just don't bother.
But like all new people to STALKER, I recommend playing SoC Vanilla first and foremost. If you don't like that, you probably won't like any of the mods or whatnot or CoP. From there, if you like it, you can expand into mods how you like. Just don't start with CoP, it's far more refined gameplay wise but really lacks atmosphere Vanilla -- which I am hoping will come alive in the MISERY mod I've been hyping

It's a survival FPS, translation a very hard first person shooter where you quick save before you eat a can of meat. It has many RPG elements in the sense that better gear and items make you stronger. But on highest difficulties and with mods, that never really takes hold and you get stronger but not invulnerable.
STALKER isn't for everyone but if you've ever wanted to try out what FPS-RPGs are like this is a great one. The story and atmosphere are fantastic and the encounters are extremely difficult yet limited. There's no infinite waves of bullshit.
That all being said (I'm pretty tired I think Fruscainte did a better job than this) complex mechanics don't exactly define the games. Certain things, like anomalies, are difficult to navigate when you're new but everything in the game can be mastered at a rather decent pace.
Hence our love for these mods. Gotta keep upping the difficulty, adding a few more items tweaking this and that :D

Yeah
All in all I'd give it a shot. I think it's only like $9 on steam right now, and if you wait until the last day of the sale I'm sure it will be even cheaper since they tend to usually do that. It's not for everyone, but for those who it is for, you'll always love it.

Well, what you both described is pretty much what I want.
The play/character model (you 'level up', but never are invincible) is exactly the same in Neuroshima. Hell, I wish it was translated to English so more people could enjoy this gem.
As for hard games, I fucking love hard games (strategy-wise mostly).
Thanks for the opinions. I will play this, when I find some time.

And I hate you Fruscainte. It is mostly your posting that hooked me into EU3. And I was supposed to be working yesterday. Well, at least Poland is bigger that it ever historically was.

I got all the Stalker games when they were super cheap. I am just playing Shadow of Chernobyl. I went in search of mods right away because I couldn't stand how it violently shakes the screen when you walk anywhere. I installed complete 2009. The Ai seems really bad. I am trying to talk to fox and he is staring at a wall because he is in combat with someone 1000 miles away. I don't know why the OP is so obsessed with a game being stupidly hard and how dying all the time is a great thing. I got this game because it sounded like fallout 3. It was fun when I had to clear out the first house and kill some people. The rest of the time has been confusing and boring. Try to go somewhere and die. Then walk back to where I was before. AI can't tell me anything. Go back to the same place. Die again. Good thing it was so cheap. I hope the other games in the series are better. Edit: Maybe the stalker complete mod is making the AI worse? Is there a mod that just gets rid of shaking the screen when you walk? The load times are really long with complete.

Stalker games are fucking amazing.
Well, with mods.
But if a god amongst men took Stalker, mixed it with the variety/size (and fast travel even though it ruins immersion) of Morrowind/oblivion, I would probably never play another game. I want Stalker fifty times the size. I want it to last forever.
It'd be the world.

Sorry you have to think for yourself gn1k
They don't hold your hand like Fallout and there's no forgiving reduce 70% of damage while in V.A.T.S. stuff. Either you pick engagements smartly or your enemies pick you off. A lot of that is taking it slow and having very sharp eyes; noting terrain and cement/ground you can take cover behind to eliminate part of a group. Your PDA gives you more than enough direction (P) if you're lost.. The rest is up to you to explore and find.
Elegy that would be fantastic we all agree :D But there's already fast travel, just pay a stalker to guide you to somewhere I like that way so much better actually. Skyrim toys with it via the horse cart guy but they really need to go all in. For someone like me, if it's in the game I'll do it. I played Skyrim for about 3 hours before saying fuck it and fast traveling became the norm instead of the exception.
STALKER2 should decrease the overall economy (not reduce inventory just make things more costly) including an increase in the cost to fast travel. If it was a bigger game.. then longer distances would cost more so win win

Why would you get Complete 2009
Unfortunately, no mods get rid of the shaky screen. I think there may be a .config edit out there to remove that, but *shrug*
|
I reinstalled the game with no Complete 2009. I also found this mod to get rid of screen shaking. http://www.gamefront.com/files/7172703/no_head_bobbing.zip So I am starting the game over for the third time. Last time I was playing I got shot once and I couldn't stop the bleeding. I used like 10 bandages and was still bleeding just as fast. I hope everything works great now.
Now I am constantly dying of radiation. I used three med kits. They keep me alive but I am still constantly losing health from radiation. From the stalker wiki it sounds like the first aid kit should fix me. Plus I have no idea how I got so irradiation from playing the first 10 minutes of the game. I am only playing this on Novice.

I'd like to play this but I can't because it makes me nauseous the way he runs and bounces at the same time.

Oh yeah, forgot about the guides in CoP.
Fuck it I'm going to reinstall now. I know I'll regret it because I'll spend the next like 72 hours playing non stop, it's disgusting but whatever.

Think i might have to grab this game, it sounds completely brilliant. I loved fallout 3 / new vegas for the "apolocolypse" feel but the gameplay was never that of survival or remotely hard.
This sounds perfect for my tastes :D :D

Highly recommend AtmosFear; not too much gameplay changes but the weather effects are godly.
