Phalsson hasn't scored more than 20 points in about five years. That trade effectively neutered their secondary scoring. The Canucks role players were shit on both ends, the secondary scoring was non-existant and the team had a ton of lapses in their own end that were the result of poor decisions more than they were pressure or anything like that. Of Vancouver's 8 goals, only two were scored by forwards that don't play on the first line. Phalsson was supposed to free up Kesler to get more offensive zone starts and stop drawing the top two lines, but he was lining up against Richards quite a lot, as well as Kopitar. If he really was that much of a liability, just keep him off the ice when LA's big two lines were on. That club has a mediocre bottom six, and him being able to create chances vs those match ups (and boost their crappy 2nd unit pp) would have been a huge help over what phalsson did.

And also, as far as I remember no other GM in the league goes on national television and cries that the refs are unfair to his team.

Within the league there is this whole concept of 'toughness' and 'energy' that somehow went from aggressive forechecking and staying on your feet when cross checked to jumping into someones' face with an elbow first. And that does seem like a new development. The sad thing is, its making all those guys who say 'oh if there was one goon on each team this shit wouldnt happen' seem kind of relevant. But only because no one wants to see more refs added. Why does the NHL care? Put 3 more guys into the video room, assign them each a quadrant of the ice and give them a job to call a penalty at any time something stupid happens. Boom, problem solved. And with the stupid TV timeouts its not like the dynamics of the game are going to slow down, at least not once players realize that playing dirty hockey gets you 2 minutes min.

Even with goons or enforcers it's a tough act to follow because the players really aren't allowed to enforce anymore with the instigating rule in effect. It is what it is. Players definitely don't have the same respect compared to 8 years ago.

The Canucks are like the Paris Hilton of the NHL. They think they all that, and honestly they are kinda cute... but they havn't really earned anything. I've never really seen this sense of entitlement from the fans or the players. I've only ever heard of it from haters.

I am surprised they havent taken the logical step of making the fine proportional to the players salary though. Losing 30% of your pay check if you give a guy a concussion sounds way scarier than 15k or even 100k.

Vancouver has been the best reg season team 2 years in a row. Toronto Maple Leafs anyone? It's way more complex than that and the Canucks have been a really good team for quite some time, but I do question a few players hearts and compete levels sometimes. Leafs hate is because of the stupid amount of media attention they get in other Canadian NHL markets. All these sports stations would rather do a editorial on the leafs losing 2 games in a row then on Ales Hemsky only scoring 10 goals this season. No, that's your reason which a few people do indeed share especially if you come from the Ottawa Valley, where TV rights used to be an issue. There are many and I mean many reasons why people love to hate on Toronto and the Maple Leafs. Notice how I separated both? The issue has a lot of depth. The leafs get alot of hate because of CBC more than anything in Canada. Being forced to watch a subpar team over other canadian clubs because thats what the CBC allowed us to watch was infuriating for years, and still is to an extent, even after they were slapped around for not showing enough other Canadian clubs play. They also have a large cast of extremely biased announcers who talk about toronto even in games that toronto isnt playing in. Try being a montreal fan and having to watch a CBC broadcast of Toronto vs Montreal sometime, there wont be a positive thing said about your team during the entire cast. Local radio stations that do their teams games show the same bias, but thats entirely different. Still hate Boston more than I will ever hate Toronto though.... so many missed suspensions, so many dirty hits, headshots, concussions, people might say that Phi is the dirtiest team in the league, but that hasnt been true for years now.

Still hate Boston more than I will ever hate Toronto though.... so many missed suspensions, so many dirty hits, headshots, concussions, people might say that Phi is the dirtiest team in the league, but that hasnt been true for years now. That's complete bullshit. Joe Bowen moved to LeafsTV and has been the voice of the Leafs for over 25 years. What the fuck do you expect? Harry Neale only moved to the Sabres cast recently. It goes way beyond the CBC and the media representation. That's not even the root of the problem and yes the market is big. Blue & white disease is very real because the fanbase is really that big which is astounding considering how many problems this team has had throughout the entire organization that dates back to the sex scandal. Toronto is a complete media circus just like any other Canadian city when it comes to hockey and there's a very good reason why they call it the center of the hockey universe. The HQ for CBC annnnnd the NHL offices are only an attribute to the media frenzy. The other sports are only a sideshow to that of the TML. You are forced to watch those games for two reasons on the CBC. 1) Regionally 2) TML fanbase is bigger and there is always a media circus in town no matter what's happening. The coverage is truly around the clock. The Leafs TV rights is something no other team can compete with and they do bring in the most money. No matter how bad the team, they'll talk about them and they'll continue to sellout the games because of all the corporate shit. The loyalty rests with the white collars. Considering how long they've stuck behind a losing brand, things won't change. They're fully loaded and as another guy said, when you have that many fans there's going to be an awful lot of silly ones as well. I've lived beside Dmitri Yushkevich and as nice a guy as he is. The media is just a complete fucking joke and if you play for Toronto you have next to zero privacy. On April 24 2012 12:32 Taku wrote: Blues vs Kings Preds vs Coyotes BEST RATINGS EVER RIGHT GUYS? I really like the Preds out of the west, and I think the Kings really could do something this post season. However, based on how all these teams play, any one of them could emerge. oh I almost forgot, the refs in the Sens game were fuckin' tards.

However, I think that the fact was that they weren't sure if he actually made contact. It seems like the skate goes over the puck.
