Mordanis - This is a different NHL. The disciplinary policies, as well as the safety procedures and initiatives have changed drastically since those incidents you sighted. Shanahan has to make a statement and I do believe that he did. However, he only makes a statement if he sticks to his guns and constantly levies punishment at this level. If he keeps pussy footing around, like he did with the Shea Weber incident, then the league is never going to make any progress.

If you are a Canadian or American NHL star or if you play for the Pittsburgh Penguins, you'll receive a slap in the wrist. If you are a 4th line player on an unpopular team, you get 10+ games. Everyone else (European stars, Boston/Anaheim/Detroit players, etc.) get the usual 1 game for a hard foul on first offense. | ||
