for everyone saying rework 1.6 into the source engine-

you'll recognize the devs as some of the same guys who worked on CPMA.

I missed this post. I've actually never played CPMA, how different is it from CSS?

+ Show Spoiler +

cpma is a quake3 mod that was made to be faster and have a higher skill ceiling. It was pretty succesful mod.

I know what Q3CPMA is, it's just that this guy's post was worded so it looked like the CS equivalent was also called CPMA and that the devs were picked up by Valve. At least that's what it looked like to me since I haven't slept. <_<

Its just gonna be CS with their latest engine I guess? Maybe if they use some of the Cs1.6 world physics?

As a noob to the professional counter strike scene, what made 1.6 better than source, besides the obvious thing of not getting feedback from the 1.6 pros and just churning out a sequel. Without getting angry lol, can someone explain? like what elements were changed, etc. thanks!

Basically just fucked up hit detection and easy-to-manage recoil.

Most people say it was because they dumbened down the recoil, stupid flashes that dont work, jump and moving feels sluggish etc. Also smokes that had no effect whatsoever (which has been fixed after over 5years of waiting)

But I've always believed that it's because for some reason, be it netcode or how the game maps are like, CSS is completely defenders advantage. CT's have it easy and T's have it easy when they have the bomb down. I personally blame the clutter on the maps and lack of being able to spam walls.

If you want to understand the differences.

Think Broodwar vs SC2

That is how it is in CS 1.6 is as well. If you take a site and get the bomb down, T's have a huge advantage because if they are good, they are going to position themselves well and make it extremely hard to either retake the site or get the defuse off. However, every map does not give a defenders advantage for CT's and are more terrorist oriented, such as de_dust2. I can't recall any maps where spamming walls really gave terrorists an advantage to be honest, you can get a pick or harass someone once in a while though.

Awesome. Hopefully they ask the Pro's so the games does not turn out to be a new CS source. (fail)

I've never been into CS but I always wonder why it's always about the same old maps.
From a spectator pov, it's really something that always bothered me. Why do we still talk about dust2 nuke and so on ? Is it really that hard to make a new competitive map ?

http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

after TF2 (which is for free as you know) CS 1.6 still has the most active playerbase of all games available at steam

i hope this game will blow some new life into the fps scene, but im pretty sure it will fail as hard or even harder than CSS

I found it a tad amusing that they invited CSS players exclusively when the cs 1.6 scene and players is so much stronger and has been forever.

Kinda makes me worried about the game..

I hope that IAmA is a fake.

It is a new game in the sense that it will exist alongside css and 1.6, but it is not as different from css as css is from 1.6. Hope that makes sense.

Let's cut the community in 3.

Nade physics are like source. Pretty sure they didn't do damage through walls. They could do 100+ damage though, which wasnt very nice, so that is getting changed as well.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Nah, it is still very much cs and I was very happy to see that the stuff they have added really doesn't ruin the experience at all. When I first heard it had molotovs I honestly thought "oh no, this is going to be such shit", but I think it worked pretty well. There are no perks or unlocks.

What the fuck

As a 1.6 player, I'm really disappointed, again.

Why can't they just port 1.6 to their newest engine and add all the amazing spectator features dota 2 has, that's all they need to do to create this decades competitive premium FPS. It would be new and shiny enough to attract new talent and sponsors but at the same time, it would be backed up by an experienced community that knows how to run a competitive game.

I hope that it will somehow be good enough to attract 1.6 players but I doubt it. Why would we switch to CS:S2, which will be even more plagued by gimmicks, when we could have done so years ago? This really isn't what the 1.6 community has been asking for.

CS 1.6 still has the most active playerbase of all games available at steam and IF Valve make a new fail with SOURCE 2, 1.6 will be still the fps number one and esports number one with IEM, WCG, ESWC.

Does Valve not get it? We don't want another CSS, we want a true successor to 1.6. This news is very disappointing to say the least.

I hope that Gabe maybe will rethink it, if everybody at Gamescom will call STFU and GTFO at him.
