Lakers over Chicago in 6.
Chicago's got energy but they're not big or talented enough to handle Kobe, Gasol, Odom, Bynum, and Artest. Rose at PG is their only superior matchup.
Kobe gets his 6th in Chicago and Phil retires with 12th. (also the Triangle offense is never seen again)

Damn I felt bad for Indiana. They were so close. I still think Orlando will win. Atlanta made quite a few arsey shots imo and won't be able to sustain it. Thought the Blazers had the Dallas game. Bleh. Wasn't a massive fan of McMillan's rotations: didn't think he used guys like Fernandez and Matthews to great effect. Philly did well to come back but they never looked like winning.
|
I need to give Atlanta some props though--they showed a lot of toughness in the game and played really smart. Just don't know if they can maintain it as they're likely to turn up in a couple of days and lose by 40.

EDIT: sorry for the repost (didn't read the current page). Dwight's definitely bouncing after his extension's up; Orlando is ass with or without him.

Wonder how the Magic are feeling about trading for Arenas...

hoping for a magic loss in the first round.

well hedo and rashard plays the same position, so those would've been fighting for minutes with bass and anderson and the team would have turned out weird.
I liked the rashard trade, but not for arenas, they didn't have a lot of choices anyways because not many teams wanted to take rashard's contract.

Chris Paul with 10 assists by the half, Hornets in control.

That guy will need Presidential level security if Kobe is hurt or out...if you thought Bartman had it tough...

me and a friend were discussing how good of a coach phil jackson is. I dont know enough to really make a statement, but my opinion is that he got lucky coaching mj and for the past while the lakers with kobe/shaq
is he really that good of a coach? or you think it's more just the players he was able to coach? I'm sure there are other coaches in the league that could boast an impressive record like phil if they had the same players as he did

I'm sure there are other coaches in the league that could boast an impressive record like phil if they had the same players as he did I'm no expert, but from what Bill Simmons reports, once a team wins a championship, they have a high chance of being plagued by the "disease of more". Which is that every guy wants more minutes and more money, upsetting the combination of roles and abilities that won the championship in the first place. Phil seems to be very good at getting his teams ready to play every year. So, I would say he's a good coach. Though, would he win 11 championships if were to have coached other teams? Probably not. Some of that is luck.

Well you can look at it from the other side...were any of those guys champions before Phil started coaching them?

Phil is a genius. Read his books if you want evidence. His core idea is to develop a unity or 'oneness' to the team where the players are putting the interest of the team above their own.
This is one of the main reasons he and Kobe have butted heads so often. Same with MJ -- he was basically constantly imploring him to trust his teammates.
He also has a 'hands off' philosophy, believing that beyond preparing them as much as possible, the players should be allowed to play freely and talk amongst each other to figure things out together (thus also harboring team unity).
Both the Lakers and Bulls were championship contenders before Phil, but it took Phil to take them to the top. Also, check out the Lakers' record after Phil left, and then the year he came back.

masterful game by chris paul

yeah, i didn't realize how good Chris Paul was. Simmons always talks about his knee, so I assumed he was mostly done for. That one handed pass was amazing.

Simmons always talks about his knee and how much of a shame it is he isn't as explosive anymore, and how amazing it is that hes still so good. People forget he probably should have won an MVP a few years ago.
Put CP3's head on Drose's body and you have a 30/10/10/5 guy.

Lakers weren't playing inspired ball today. No chance they make it to the finals if they played like they did for the remainder of this series. Phil is an absolute master coach. Having that many super stars on a team and getting them to work together in the first place is a feat

Pacers win the whole thing. :p

Didn't Simmons recently comment on how he thought Paul's explosiveness was coming back?
