His response to the question about other people wanting him to lose was about as horrible as it could be. Basically it went: 'they can hate me and be happy now, but when they wake up they still aren't millionaries like me and they have to return to their misrable little lives."

Magic retired in Nov 1991 due to getting HIV. The following season, James Worthy had a season-ending knee injury. Both of these players still had some time left (Johnson was 32 and Worthy 30). The Lakers had Sam Perkins, Vlade Divac, Elden Campbell, and AC Green for big men. Byron Scott was a solid SG. If Worthy hadn't had an injury that basically ended his career (he was never the same afterwards) and if Magic had not contracted HIV, this team would have been good for another 3-4 years.

What a dick. The amount of arrogance it takes to even imply something like that is mind boggling. I didn't hate Lebron before but that sure puts my feelings in that direction.

This guy made Kenyon Martin and Richard Jefferson All-Stars and went up against the juggernaut Western Powers in the Finals. Just goes to show that scoring isn't the only thing that makes you a great player. As for Lebron I'm a bit torn on him. Every single game this series he played passive. Like I could understand 1 or 2 games of laid back ball, but he really just didn't show the killer instinct like Wade did. I don't put as much into the "will to win" as others since it's a very rare thing for superstars but he worries me. Even Mario Chalmers seemed to want it more than he did. Well they will roast him. But if he wins? Almost all will be forgotten. Look at Kobe before 08 and Dirk after 07. They were brutalized in the media. Win and people leave you alone. Even though Lebron caught a lot of flack I don't think it's on the level of hate MJ got before he won his first title. Bosh was off and on, with Wade being their most consistent player in every series except vs Chicago. Bosh's defense was under rated, but some of his decisions on offense were mind boggling. With Brian Cardinal or Ian Mahini on you, you just have to go to the rack. I still think you're misreading Wade and James games. Neither of them even look like their rookie selves, especially Lebron who shoots a lot more jumpers. Wade also plays lots of back door and sneaking in the paint where as in his rookie and sophmore years he was just a slasher. His 3rd year he got a mid range game and that was the end of that. I don't disagree with you at all Ace, I mean obviously they are better players with some more diverse options. However, far and away the best play for both of them is still drive to the hole, hard. Both need to work on some sort of pivot misdirection move, especially for when they hit thier 30s and lose some of the speed/hops.

I think that's where he was going, but it was worded ambiguously enough that no one in the media can really go after him for it. He never said millionaire but he was VERY clearly going down this road, and half way (after he already said they have to wake up an return to their own real life) he tried to tone it down and change it because I think he realized it was a douche bag thing to say. His intent was more than clear enough to justify the media going after him imo. I'm sure they will too.

I understand him not beating himself over it but he just didn't play Championship caliber basketball and seems to think he did no wrong. ![]()
