There isn't really a huge community similar to TL. The closest I can think of would be http://www.reddit.com/r/tribes. You also have news sites like http://www.spinfusor.org/ that post lots of quality content. The forum there isn't very active though.


I find it funny people want to stop playing the game because of a single overpowered weapon. Yes it is overpowered but only a fraction of people have it unlocked and an ever smaller percentage can actually use it to the point it breaks the game, and those people would manage it with other weapons regardless.
This happened with the Jackal and it'll get toned down momentarily. The main issue is the hitbox that is gigantic on the projectile. It's far too easy to use and the clip size also needs revising.

At Spinfusor.org we are trying to create TL for T:A. That was sort of the goal when we went live. It is very hard to get people to leave the Hi-Rez forums though, even if we offer a well moderated environment with quality control.
The official forums are slowly turning into the battle.net forums, so I'm sure some people will search for refuge soon enough.

I'm sorry, have you even dueled _anyone_ with the plasma gun? From personal experience your first argument is void, there were people with plasma guns in all of the ~10 games or so I played yesterday. Secondly, having to consciously avoid duelling raiders because they possess an insanely overpowered weapon is not fun for me. At all. You try to duel them and you just die. Nothing you can do about it. I'll probably return to the game but not before the nerf. And I sure as hell won't be spending any money on pay2win updates like this one.
Theres a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.

We agree nothing beats a plasma raider. Okay. We agree it's overpowered. The difference seems to be that you think it's okay because they don't have infinite HP, too!

Apparently we need to debate pay2win semantics. Do you _not_ understand why this update is pay2win? You shell out 10 bucks and suddenly you're a progamer. The whole "sidegrades only" went out the window and the simple fact that you can buy yourself skill makes it pay2win.

Okay, that's pretty much my view on it. The game deserved support, and maybe it will in the future, too. But releasing pay2win updates makes me mad, unwilling to play and most certainly unwilling to pay.

I think you guys have pretty weird definitions on what is pay to win. Plasma gun can be bought with XP which already makes it non p2w. Pretty much all the weapons are sidegrades as well really, plasma gun too when it gets nerfed. I've killed a lot of bad raiders who use plasma, it's not like he's immortal and in comp the weapon is banned anyway.

With VIP, it takes about 40 hours of play at 2500xp/hour to unlock new weapons, and then a few more to fully upgrade them. Let's call it 45-50, upwards of 75 if you don't have a VIP account. This update requires someone to play over 100 hours to unlock all the new gear. Each 100k weapon brings up this problem, and there are what, over a dozen of those already? Both pub and competitive play has proven that some weapons are undeniably better than the basic gear (doombringer mines, LAR, SMGs in general, jackal, now this plasma gun, etcetc). You expect people to be able to, or even want to, grind a few thousand hours right off the bat to obtain all the neccesary gear to be as useful as someone that already has it unlocked? That's not "play2be the same as everyone else". That's pay2win.

Look at this. It's ridiculous. How can anyone say this doesn't completely outclass every other weapon in the game at the moment?

Well Raynian, generally someone isn't playing 4-5 classes competitively. You don't see an HOF switch to pathfinder to raider in the same match. If you want to be competitive without paying money, you just have to focus on one class. And it will just take a little longer. Thats what I had to do and its not really the biggest deal.

Stopped reading right there, 2500 an hour, are you serious? That is so low. I rake in about 12000xp an hour with a boost, so ~6000xp without it. 2500xp must be the bare minimum when you don't get any medals

This game is NOT pay2win. Its pay or grind. And if your getting 2500/hour with a boost, your doing something terribly wrong. In three days I got 100k xp without a boost. I don't remember exactly how long I played, but it couldn't of been more than 20 hours of gametime. Which turns out to be around 5000 xp per hour.

Edit: Theres also that 1500 for your win of the day.

You're misusing Pay 2 Win and/or treating it like it's bad when it's not.

The fact that you can buy the gun makes it WAY better than if it was XP unlock only.

The problem instead is that in a competitive game we have unlockable gear that gives you an advantage. It doesn't matter HOW the gear is unlocked, it's just the simple fact that it is locked to some % of players even if they have paid a reasonable amount.

Now at launch this wasn't god awful, you could buy the max efficiency of a few classes for a reasonable amount of money or a mediocre amount of time and you started with competitive gear (other than the bullshit XP only unlocks).

But we're running into a few problems....
1. The game is becoming too expensive (time or money, doesn't matter) with these additional weapons
2. The game is being destabilized by the rapid introduction of weapons/gear which cause balance issues and possibly invalidated previous investments.
3. The player base's perception is that Hi-Rez has an incentive to release overpowered gear. Whether or not it is actually true the perception hurts Hi-Rez's reputation every time a new weapon is useful.

Does anybody else still feel that the technician is still really imbalanced? The turrets are way too good and a whole team of technicians are not fun to play against AT ALL. Just camping at flag herp derp.
