Weekly Cup Competitions
Week of April 21 - 27
by Wax
The fourth week of April was jam packed with events, with the usual trio of Monday cups joined by uThermal's 2v2 tour, a couple of SC: Evo events, and streamers Wardi and Rex Wardi wrapping up a pair multi-week tournaments.
While the spoils were fairly evenly distributed, Clem came out as the biggest winner of the week by taking 1st place in the $5,000 WardiTV Spring Championship. After losing ground to herO and MaxPax in recent weeks, it was a reminder that Clem is still the player to be most feared (alongside Serral) when the stakes are raised.
*Partial brackets may be shown.
April 21: WardiTV Mondays #32
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/wardimon032.png)
The week began with
herO extending his run of great cup play, taking down both MaxPax and Clem to win WardiTV Mondays. The herO's 2-1 semifinal win against MaxPax was another blow against a once mighty PvP empire, with the mysterious Dane somehow losing both Phoenix war games. herO followed up with an impressive 3-0 sweep against Clem, where he got to show off his defensive chops against a 2-base timing, his macro skills in a mid/late-game brawl, and his trademark aggression with a fast Storm timing (VOD).

April 21: Monday Night Weeklies #14
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/mnw14.png)
After struggling to shake off a minor slump in recent weeks,
MaxPax took an encouraging victory in Monday Night Weeklies where he vanquished Gerald, Solar, Clem, and herO to take the title. MaxPax got some of his thunder back in PvP—going 2-1 against herO in three BO3 series (5-2 overall map score)—but the big picture stats still say he's just not the singular force in PvP that he once was (although still the #1 ranked player).

April 21: PiGosaur Cup #28
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/pig028.png)
The PiGosaur Cup saw the Clem-herO-MaxPax trinity all sit out, opening up the championship field considerably. Ultimately, the week's title went to
Cure, who achieved a perfect run with no map losses. The finals against ByuN saw Cure maintain his reputation as an unusually cheesy cup player, bringing out some form of proxy in all three games. Cure proved why he can't be blamed for doing so, winning two macro games when his cheeses failed to clinch victory early on VOD).

PiGosaur Cup also featured a most unexpected interloper in sOs, who played his first tournament matches since February of 2024. While sOs has made brief 'comeback' appearances in the past, this may have been part of a more serious effort to return to active play. Later in the week, sOs competed in the GSL qualifier and actually qualified for Code S for the first time in over four years—how far is he going to take this unexpected run?

April 4-27: Rex April Madness

Rex April Madness tournament came to an end on Thursday, concluding with
MaxPax getting his second win of the week. The Danish Dynamo gave a dominating all-around performance during the three-week tournament, going 5-0 in series (wins against Ryung, Rogue, Classic, Solar, and herO) and a whopping 16-3 in maps (VOD (playoffs day 1) - VOD (playoffs day 2)).

The post-military version of Rogue had been somewhat disappointing, but this time he flashed one of those tantalizing peaks by beating Clem with fast Lurkers in two macro games, and then finishing the sweep with a fast Roach-Ravager-Zergling attack.

April 9-27: WardiTV Spring Championship 2025
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/wardispring2025.png)
Rex wasn't the only one to hold a multi-week event in April, as WardiTV held its Spring Championship with $5,000 in prize money on the line. Despite April's overarching storyline being
Clem's slump, the Liquid ace rallied to win the biggest of the month's cup events (VOD (playoffs day 1) - VOD (playoffs day 2) - VOD (playoffs day 3)).

However, once he survived the elimination scare with a 3-2 comeback win against Solar, Clem went on an unstoppable PvT tear. There was no answer to be found against Clem's early harassment and aggression, with the top Terran clobbering Classic (3-1), Zoun (3-0), and MaxPax (4-1, but with MaxPax having a free map point as the upper bracket player) to claim the championship.

April 27: uThermal 2v2 Circuit- April
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/thermy2v2_04.png)
High-level team competition returned to the SC2 scene, as uThermal's monthly 2v2 tour continued with its April event.
Alas, we didn't get to see three-time winners Spirit-MaxPax go for their fourth straight victory, as MaxPax declined to compete in the competition (combined with his forfeiture of his PiG Sty seed, it seems as if he may be taking a break). However, Spirit found a very worthy replacement in the form of ShoWTimE, and the duo displayed instant championship chemistry by winning the April Cup (VOD).

April 23: Kung Fu Cup 2025 #9 - StarCraft Evolution Mod
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/KFC2025_09.png)
SC2 vs Brood War action continued in the Kung Fu Cup, with
Dark once again proving himself to be the mod's strongest player. After winning last week's cup with a tryhard, all-Zerg performance, Dark decided to give his opponents a fighting chance by playing as random. However, the StarCraft gods—or at least the ones who govern niche mods—ordained that Dark was to be the winner anyway, giving him two Zerg draws in his 3-0 finals sweep over ByuN (VOD).

April 26: StarCraft Evolution League #10
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/scevo10.png)
The week gave us a double dose of SC Evo action as the SEL returned with another cup. Dark gave his random another go, but this time he was brought down in the semifinals by Kiwian after striking out with three consecutive Terran draws. Kiwian proceeded to take the championship with a 3-2 victory over threepoint, showing that he isn't just one of the mod's best content creators, but one of its best players as well (VOD).
