Is ZP trying to get job from HR or why is he trying to bury himself up in HR's arse. What makes me sad is that casters didn't even realize why HS runs 2 snipers etc before loach comes in and tells them. HS played just like this against RoR last night as well.

Enjoyable tournament, i found it epic that the guy that came for the interview used the opportunity of a direct conversation with company guys to make them feel how the community is feeling, lots of people would just pretend to behappy, suck up to hirez a little and be done with it.
Also I'm deeply bored of the "starcraft took 4 years to be a e-sport, we need time to develope too" ffs, bw success is an accident, there was no sight of the game becoming this big in blizzard, so if you build your game with the intent of making it competitive, don't say you are following starcaft's footsteps, you want it to become an e-sport, if it doesn't work, it's just you that is failing.
Be nice, buy wards and don't feed double buff.

Sorry I missed the tournament. I would have loved to have seen it, especially the post-tournament discussion. Were the games any good?

On the topic of the plasma gun, I'm just taking a hiatus from the game for the duration of the OP and resulting QQ. Not in the mood to deal with either.

Look at it from the caster perspective. Here we are trying to promote T:A to the masses. We know it has issues and most of them are being worked on. Then loach comes in and basically I spent 5 minutes of him talking staring at my scream with an open mouth.

Yes, I knew perfectly well what hindisight has been doing. They go for the most broken things and abuse it as a form of protest. Yet here we are trying to help T:A grow competitively and they pull this stuff off. It isn't helpful, it is detrimental!

T:A has an esports guy, but Bart has been fighting from the start to implement eSport stuff. He's not a developer, he was hired as a marketing guy to help promote the game through competition. The further T:A makes it the more the focus will lie on competition.
A big problem is that with the attitude of a lot of veterans it is very hard to get a straight answer out of them. They just rage a couple of hours on IRC and most of the time will spew garbage. Loach came in basically saying 'The game sucks and is broken' over and over until I asked him to give argumentation.

A lot of demands have been put forward time and time again by this core group, but they haven't been taken seriously because apart from those few moments of lucidity they are immature children that nobody can communicate with. The only reason Bart can is because he was part of that primordial pool.

So did he have points? Yes! Absolutely! The game is a very long way from being viable in many ways. Loach's approach got the shock value and I hope its energy can be used for good. Was it the time and place to do it? No.
So obviously we are going to try and diffuse the situation and pat Hi-Rez on the back for doing a lot of things right (which they have).
I pulled out the SC cliché because I honestly didn't know what to say. But the statement stands. Hi-Rez is a company. They make money. If a game needs to prove potential. T:A has it, so now it is time to bank on that.
Yet the game is already very high up the skill curve so I understand they are a bit worried about making it too isolated for new people to pick it up.

Let's be honest. SC2 is the same way. It is dumbed down and not as skilled, it is a shadow of Brood War. But it's an eSport because you can watch it.

I think T:A shouldn't have been released yet. I think beta should have gone on. I believe we are still in beta mode and it will take a long time before everything is released.
I mean, we're still waiting for demos, etc ...

Hi-Rez isn't Blizzard. They have limited resources. They've got 2 games they are making money off, T:A is one of them.

So yeah. I agree, loach as a point and they have been said time and time again and I agree on most points. But I'm realistic in my expectations in how long that will take to develop.
A lot of the changes like disk impulse are minor changes however. so really it's just the case of biting the bullet and hope all the pubbies understand what happened ...

Was Loachy's approach too dramatic? Yes, he pretty much came in guns blazing and went kinda over board. Is his points totally valid? Absolutely.

While it's great we are promoting T:A as an esports title and try to make it bigger, there's issues. The issues being that the game is what it is, and if we try to create this huff and puff how fun and great the game is when it isn't, we are just shooting ourselves in the leg in long run. No one wants the game to be like this, there's plenty of old guys still playing 'cause everyone is hoping for the best. Truth is we don't know really which direction the game is going, every positive change we see in the patch notes is buried in tons of negative stuff. Things have been suggested for very long time now yet some of those have been simply ignored. I think everyone fears that it will have the same fate as T:V and this might be the last chance for tribes. Trying to get this game in it's current state to the big stages of esports, have fanclubs for the favourite players out there etc etc. Will come crashing down sooner or later if things don't change, if we ever even reach that high. Currently there's problems of even agreeing on a new rule set which causes more annoyance in the community and doesn't help the situation at all really. Hope for the best, fear for the worst I guess. I wish this was just over dramatization but I'm afraid more people are starting to lose their hope.

Oh and I never played previous tribes other than few times on a pubs

i watched most of the games on your stream and .. oh my god does competitive play piss me off.. first of all, i always leave servers with less than 10 players on either side, because the game just doesn't feel right then, so i kinda dislike 7v7 in comp already. In addition, counter strike 5v5 is already confusing to watch, but tribes with 7v7 or even more? and two flags instead of one bomb? i don't know if there is a way to present a game while maintaining some sort of overview, but seeing one capper running with the flag while hearing two people talk about the other capper carrying the other flag doesn't really accomplish this at all.

But by far the worst thing imo is these guys just spamming the suicide button the moment it might save them just half a second of travel time. i mean what is this, half the death notifications are suicides rather than actual kills. and always bumping the flag around instead of returning it? i feel like all they do is abuse game mechanics to the limits and my god that makes me angry, lol.

Guess i'm not gonna watch any competitive games anymore.. if i'd want to see someone press "restart" on every little accidental wall nudge, i'd watch tony hawks pro skater score record attempts, not T:A i seriously hope this permanent suiciding doesn't become popular in pubs. otherwise hirez either needs to add like a 30s respawn timer if you hit k or splash dmg yourself to death out of combat miles away from any enemy or i might just abandon the game. it's sooo annoying

This game would be so hard without suicides, do you know how long it would take for a chaser to get back into position with full health, energy, and nitrons? It wouldn't be quick enough in some circumstances to beat a fresh capper. Also if you would remove suicide, you would have to remove self damage, as that's another form of suicide. And that would dumb down the game as that's less of a resource. You sacrifice hit points for speed currently. And to remove that it would turn into cappers having too much life when they pick up the flag. Also would create more of a dull game in terms of risk/reward.

Also your view on whats valid in competitive play or not is kinda awkward. I greatly recommend reading this article

It's not really an attitude issue or problem on the community's part. The same people have brought up the same issues ever since the game's alpha. In pretty well-laid out, polite, well-reasoned arguments, I might add.

Most of it has been met with a huge wall of resounding silence on part of the developer.


Respect is a two-way street, you can't expect some without giving it yourself.

I think we are playing different games here.

In my opinion suiciding is the best mechanic in the game: you go on a mission and when it's done you get back to base ready for whatever comes next. I don't think it's that hard to explain to the casual viewer that in a capture the flag with a respawn it doesn't actually matter how many times you die, on the contrary that realization allows them to focus on the important things that are happening.

Is 7v7 the standard now? What was wrong with 8v8 ?

They want 7v7 to become the standard format since it's a lot cheaper to send 7 people than 8 to lans.

Tribes: Ascend Version 1.0942.1 is scheduled to be released on Friday, April 27. The servers will be down for several hours while the update is applied.

Weapon/Balance Items
Increased damage on Brute’s Heavy Spinfusor by roughly 7%.
Modified the Pathfinder's Light Assault Rifle so that it has an increased projectile speed and fall-off begins at a greater distance (buffed). Projectile speed now matches that of the Soldier’s Assault Rifle.
Modified the collision size of Raider’s Plasma Gun projectile. The weapon’s damage and rate of fire remain the same.

Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue that impacted the ability of the Shrike to fly vertically.
Fixed an issue in which the First Win of the Day bonus was not being awarded in some scenarios.
Fixed an issue that would prevent a player from deploying deployables.
Recently earned badges are now shown correctly on the profile page.
Several bug fixes and cleanups on the menu UI.
Theres a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.

and here i thought hard was what people are looking for Oo If the capper fucked up he fucked up, if he just clicks suicide to restart, his fuck-up costed him about 5 seconds of game time, aka it's completely irrelevant if he fucks up or not because he has almost infinite retries. I don't think that's good.

and just to respond to your "bannable" concerns: i didn't say "remove" suicide. It's a valid function and it should stay in there for when you get stuck and can't get out or something. But if someone hits k, he should imo get a higher penalty than 3s respawn. And regarding self-damage, of course you have to be somewhat careful with a heuristic for what's an accident and what's a suicide, because you certainly don't want to punish people for killing themselves by accident in the middle of a fight, but if a player is out of combat and not close to an enemy, it's a fairly safe bet to say he killed himself deliberately. especially in pro games where players should know better than to forget they are too low-hp to make a disc jump, this could work i think. I don't want suicide to be banned by tournament rules, i just want it to be punished by the game. The fact that competitive plays with their own rule set is bad enough already if you ask me (be it willingly or, even worse, out of necessity because hirez is unable to make/keep the game competitive compatible), i certainly don't feel like further differentiating the two is good.

Brute needs buff. Heavy spinfusor damage buff isn't it.

IMO they should release a weapon patch where DMB gets a decent secondary and BRT gets a decent SMG/chaingun.
