Furthermore, I'll apparently get dragged into spending more money on sequels.
Mass Effect 1 had a better storyline than ME2. However its inventory system is terrible and the AI is really dumb (especially those on your team are a bit... idiotic).
The storyline is absolutely amazing and I really enjoyed the game overall. There is no replay value, so wait until it goes on sale again to 5$.
ME1 is more RPG than ME2 and ME1 runs along the lines of making moral decisions that ultimately affect the play-out of major events, people/characters and the sequel should you ever engage in the sequel as well.
The are plenty of reasons to play through ME1 more than once, e.g. different pathing, reaching level cap, making different decisions -- Have you even played ME1?
As for ME3; if this series is going to be remembered as "great", the only reason is because of the first game. I'll gladly eat my words, but I doubt I will.
I played ME1 for the story, once the surprise(s) are out of the bag, it loses its replay value for that. Yeah, you can play it again, different paths, answers and reactions, but that gets old fast.
I must have never played ME1 because I disagree -_-

I can't play through both games again, since I already played both to death when they were new. Is there something like a database with ME1 and ME2 saves that lists choices made in the game?

It's right there in the video title: Darren Aronofsky's "The Fountain". People either love it or hate it; I loved it. I'm extraordinarily psyched for the soundtrack for ME3, if nothing else. Clint Mansell can do no wrong at this point.
Bioware confirmed that every PC version (digital and physical) will require Origin to play Mass Effect 3 Singleplayer or Multiplayer and there won't be a Steam version.

That is absolutely ridiculous. Multiplayer I can understand, but Singleplayer as well? WTF? I might just cancel my CE pre-order.

Well TBH it was to be expected. But I'm still not happy with it either. I'm just going to buy this for SP anyway.
I will evaluate my options upon release. Perhaps origins will not suck by then.
And maybe Iran will stop pursuing nuclear ambitions, peace will be made between Israel and Palestine, and the Democrats and the Republicans pass comprehensive social security reform.
