Crafted items and Rares along with some blues are MILES better than over 90% of all runewords or uniques. There are very few uniques/runewords that are actually good(armor, weapons and shields mostly), for other items they are mostly the poor mans version of really good items and used because they are cheap and accessible.
A really good rare fcr-ring is SO EXPENSIVE, you can buy dozens of soj's or buls for that. Or have you ever heard about JMoDs?
Good rares/blues are so great that some people build characters around them :p

I'm really excited to see how the resource systems will work. They changed so much during the progression of the game. If the demon hunter get something like energy resource like how rogues in WoW work. Then i'll probably gonna main demon hunter.

Oh the lovely pre-1.07 days, I actually quit Ladder play after 1.08 when most rares became useless and top 100 players of each class were wearing more or less the same gears.
The ridiculously powerful runewords actually drove legit players away because it is simply impossible to find/trade 3 godly runes for ONE single runeword to match any non-legit/no-life players. The highest rune I've ever found is a Vex in 1.08 after hundreds of hours in three ladder seasons...
I hope Blizzard be more creative in the gear designs in D3.

Thankfully there are no "runewords" in D3, so that is a step in the right direction.

Most people who hate on modern D2 don't even know the game they hate....

I came back when they claimed highrunes dropped more often...to say "quite often" is a bit of a stretch. Sure the drop rate was increased, but there weren't that many..not even on JSP. Once I came back I think I found one Ist as my highest rune...and I played for a long long time after that last patch.

The droprates made me quit D2 because they dropped too often for my taste. I found several highrunes just leveling my Hammer to 96 @ CS/Baal Of course you still need luck - I've never found a good unique for example. But some skiller with 3x life :p That's Diablo.
€ But I agree with you, I don't want runewords in D3 - as long as I still have the chance of making the char I want, like a melee sorc. But the last time Bashiok said something about weapons they made it impossible with class-specific weapons Hope they change it.

While checking the Bnet D3 forums for news or actually smart regulars, I came across a thread that was based around a picture that actually looks and feels like Diablo:
+ Show Spoiler +
Bodies left rotting on the ground. A dark, decaying swampy temple. A black mist hangs on the edge of vision.
Do you, TLers, like it? Is it "sufficiently Diablo"?
(You might want to drag and drop it to its own tab)

There are no runewords but there are runes nonetheless to improve/modify spells. The high level ones will most likely be quite rare. There's a video around on youtube that shows the effect of quite a few for the wizard, barbarian and witch doctor. Some of those runes seems to be made with a pvp mindset.

I highly doubt that any of these runes will be as rare as something like a Zod rune though.

I did it to them too, we like to screw with each other, they're real life friends.

D2 brings back some nostalgia to me. But I've lost my cd and cdkey some time ago. Can you buy it online somewhere these days ? Maybe I can play hardcore with some TL guys.

It's a pity you don't have that key
You could download the game client off Bnet if you did.

Yeah wow 40$ for diablo 2 on bnet xD. Just go to the store, you can get it for like 20$ over here anyway at my walmart/target/hastings ^^.

It's because other websites steal their sales... *hint hint*

you can get cd keys for about 2$ online. a lot of them are chat locked though, but if all you care about it playing, pick one up

haha, i installed D2 today, too :D lvl 16 and going.. still a lot of fun! though i quite missed some changes over the last years. theres a new quest reward in act 1 which allows you to reset all skills and attribute points. problem is, i didnt know its a quest reward. i thought its a permanent new feature and i totally wasted it
