Browsing the Diii net boards, I came accross a post from Bashiok concerning followers, apparently they are only meant as a tutorial feature, they are too fragile to survive any kind of pressure in nightmare and hell diff. Talk about a waste of ressources! They mention normal will be a cakewalk regardless of you relying on a merc or not. Dont care much about nightmare but HELL better be spot on.

I remember losing my first HC character ever, I think I was around level 65, before LOD came out. I think the top on the ladder was around level 75. Doing chaos runs, died to de sies I think. The game used to be so much fun, before exceptionals and elites and uniques/runewords were added that were miles better than any rares you could find. Back when you'd imbue gothic bows and lances at level 29 @ charsi and trade sick rares for shit like umes lament and twitch....I miss those days.

T And after level 50, the higher you get the more frustrating it is :-) TPPK is evil... as is jsp and forum gold. damn it all to hell! (a4)

Back in Classic you could have five top tier players with the same class and good gear have totally different setups aside from a few Uniques that gave stats otherwise unavailable for certain gear slots. Stone of Jordan, Magefists, Blinkbat, Tiwtchthroe, Hotspurs, Gorefoot, and Goblin Toes were pretty much the only Uniques worth wearing. You could make an argument for Tarnhelm, Goldwrap, Gull, and Chance Guards I suppose. Honestly, that was all the really good Uniques the game really needed. I hope the game isn't over saturated with Legendaries this go around, I want finding one to be exciting not "lolol 30k more gold from Charsi." Some of the mods you could get on rares were pretty epic anyway: An amulet with Prism resistance, +2 class skills, +strength, and FCR would be epic. You could sell one of those puppies for four or five SoJ back in the day. Or a shield with +2 din, FHR/FB, and prism resistance. Helms/Armor/Belts you were looking for +Life/Mana, FHR, and two or three resistances. Rings you usually wanted FCR, +strength and two or three resistances, unless you were melee in which you wanted life/mana leech and resistances. Those were the days. You would find an epic item (GG, or godly good we used to call em) and just decide to make that class. I think I even enjoyed sitting around trading and looking at everyones rare items. Ah, nostalgia...

It would be great to loot something epic and it actually mean something...you know, like how WoW was in 2004-2006...

I should add that Spectral Shard's had their place too. But really, that number encompassing all legitimate builds is still like fifteen, and many of them overlap in terms of item slotting.

Vanilla wow was soooo good! As for D2, rares are still the most valuable items in the game (good ones that is) but it's nothing like before where everybody was looking for rares instead of mass uniques for trading.
