When I was a young kid I got this game called Diablo... I played it for a while until I got to a level with a room filled with spiked corpses and blood everywhere.. When I opened the door a towering monstrosity called " Ahhh... FRESH MEAT ", Immediately I ran out of the room with my heart about to pop out of my chest.
The next day I decided to try to do it again, but this time around I brought a friend with me from school. Once again I met the butcher, and we were too afraid to continue...
Years later I played a game called Diablo 2, This time around I was playing Hardcore ladder on Hell difficulty, trying to kill Diablo himself in his lair. One of his attacks was enough to kill me instantly, never allowing me to play my character again. Again, My heart start beating uncontrollably as I tried to dodge flame and claws, always sticking close to my trusty townportal and ready to pull the internet plug if things got too dicey.
Diablo 3 is yet to release, but I am fully prepared to have my heart giving up on me while playing it, and I'll do so gladly.

My thoughts:
Enchantress - yet another bikini girl. Scoundrel - looks alright. Templar - looks like a WoW paladin....
Overall, i was hoping they'd skip mercenaries this time around and implement something more innovative, like a familiar or something - perhaps one that you could control and use to access certain locations or scout with.

Uhhh thats looks a hell of a lot better from diablo 2 exp merc. You can actually equip them with a full set of gear. Thank you blizzard yet another good job on this game. I don't think Blizzard fucked this up. They got it right.
Edit: Again for someone who played Diablo , Diablo 2 , Expansion of D2 they slowly progressed the graphics kept it pretty basic but yet enhanced the visual experience. In each one they made the game better without changing the basic of the game.
Take a look at Starcraft and then Starcraft 2. My opinion and i'll prolly get some nasty comments but they fucked it up. Changed it dramatically. I was in Korea for the launch of that and it really didn't take off. Broodwar is still more popular.
I got carried away on another topic...sorry. It's going to be an easy transfer for players who loved diablo. Not like starcraft.

Funny... most critics say it's too similar. And we all know the reason it had trouble taking off is because of the KeSPA vs. Blizzard disputes, and the entrenchment of SC1 in media. But we're all entitled to believe what we want, right?

Had more to do with the PC bang culture which Blizzard failed to work on(Why do you think Blizzard is adding a seperate PCbang ladder for Korea right now?), still SC2 is a hell lot more cartoony then SCI in pretty much every aspect, however with this top down view, is there still really a place for really detailed gore and darkness?
Either way, it won't sell as well if its too dark and ''scary'' so to speak.

Lets stick to Diablo discussions guys ? Please don't make this a thread about Kespa vs Blizzard.

again, what brings you to that assumption?
were d1/d2 too dark and scary? doubt anyone would say yes. and both sold INCREDIBLY well. infact the diablo combi box was one of the top20 selling pc games up till 2008.
so why would you say that a style like in d1&2 would hurt the sales? that makes no sense at all.

Because cartoony sells(look at WoW and SC2), dark and gore makes the rating on the box go higher.
Marktes for gaming have grown much larger then ever, and like I said it is likely that Blizzard wants to market to their WoW/SC2 ''population'' aswell. I'd say it would hurt sales, but thats just my opinion, I could be wrong. Diablo II sold 4 million copies rougly in the span of 10 years, Starcraft II has sold 4.5 million copies in less then a year.
The market for cartoony games is much larger then the market for dark/''scary'' games simply put.
Either way I hope regions don't get locked(oke thats probably false hope :/) as I really want to play with people outside of Europe.

cartoony sells when it fits (and i wouldnt really throw sc2 in there). but in this case it could change the entire expirience.
you wouldnt make the next quake or cod "cartoony" because "cartoony sells" either . and ratings dont matter much. CoD is mainly played by 15 year olds and is way way more violent then some iso hacknslay like diablo could ever be. also "darkness" and violence sells atleast as well as "cartoony". or how many 15 year old boys do you know that would say "uuhh its so dark and i dont like evil things.. i rather have a bright cartoon world with unicorns puking rainbows!"?
and d3 will be hyped like crazy by EVRYONE and has a fanbase of millions of people that want a diablo and not diablo meets torchlight meets warcraft.

ya youre lucky that technology in australia is so far ahead of the rest of the world :D
about region lock i think they will handle it like they imho will with sc2. lock evrything and when demands are high release it as a cool new optional feature for 10-20$. but ofcourse thats pure speculation ~

think you underestimate the number of d2 players."He also noted that there are currently 11 million users still actively playing the original Starcraft and Diablo II through Blizzard's online platform, Battle.net."and thats not even a year ago.
also trying to get wow players into a time consuming game like diablo could actually hurt blizzard more since 4 months of wow = diablo retail price. so if a significant number of people actually do switch they would have a net loss of income after 4 months. and afaik they plan to release atleast one other expansion for wow.
even outside of my personal opinion i just dont see how this could possibly make sense. you risk a shitstorm from the fanbase and the whole feel of the franchise to draw customers from yourself that pay 1/4 of the fullgame price a month?

judging from sc2, several hundred $ the first week. 100$+ the following weeks and after a month around 30-60. later they will be very cheap/free if youre lucky.

Ähm there will be no beta-keys. It's the cataclysm system! Blizz just unlocks the account for you, if they choose you. At the end of the beta there will be maybe some fansite-keys, but at the start of the beta its invite only

Obviously it's impossible for ANY company to make a game that is perfect for every single person out there. There are people that will not agree with certain features or decisions. Blizzard gets a lot of flack for apparantley not listening to feedback or something like that, but the truth is, they are one of the most successful companies ever without ever putting out a bad game to date, and I think the reason for that is because of the feedback they take in and the amount of time they are willing to put into a game to make it as close to perfect for the most people possible. If you don't like what they have to offer, then don't buy the game. All the bitching and moaning gets kind of old after a while to be honest.

^You are awesome. I love your descriptions. Gosh. Really just psyched me back up for Diablo 3. (Had been de-psyched from the WoW'ish templar).
Just hope the experience can be just as thrilling and haunting as D1+D2.
