A little concerned about the graphics but hopefully we've only seen the most colourful places so far.

Let's hope for more stuff like this=)

Could I get someone to post in the thread the pictures of the piles of rotted corpses, impaled people and the ghost king guillotining his wife? All from D3 btw.

Bloody hell people.
Kind of hard to do without the game or even a demo, no?

I don't think blizzard could get away with the Gothic levels they put into the first and second games. I never noticed such things a decade ago when I was playing through the first time, but then I saw some graphics specifically pointing such things out. There's some crazy stuff in these games that goes unnoticed to the average eye. I don't mind such things, but I can see how it'd keep people away from the game. I've never played games for the graphics so I could care less really. I'd rather them make something completely retarded, hideous, and it actually have good game play than have good graphics, but suck.
Than do not try to talk down people who DO notice and enjoy graphics in their games. Guess what, different people look for different things in video games. I played a lot of WoW still do occasionally but I still don't like the WoW-style graphics being implemented to Diablo 3 because they're different games I play diablo to play diablo with its dark and gloomy atmosphere, not to play WoW as a hack and slash.
Other people might not buy if the graphics look like previous games.
and the reason for that assumption is?
d2 sold like crazy even years after its release. there is a HUGE fanbase out .and since when does more gore mean less sells? there are tons of games that sell purely on gore.
show me even ONE person out of the millions that playd diablo games that said " uuhh the game is nice but its to dark ! im not gonna play it!".
I wouldn't say that D2 was dark/gloomy/w/e. Especially compared to D1. The first two acts aren't scary in the slightest (especially the 2nd is super-bright), and the third one seems scary only because of spiders and maggots.
But even if we ignore that and look only at the darker parts of the game, to me it is still very cartoony compared to D1 and then there's also the music and the sound effects. In D1 they build an atmosphere of grim and mystery, while in D2 they build up tension and give the hack n slash feel. Maybe kinda like the Resident Evil series -- they went from horror games to action shooters.
I personally like the D3 graphics I've seen so far -- to me it looks like it's the best of both worlds (not so far from the D2 feel?).
I agree with this. D2 wasn't nearly as gloomy and dark as D1. It was a lot more focused on action and gameplay rather than making you scared or anything like that. I have always loved the Diablo lore and I hope they bring some awesome story lines out for this game. If you guys haven't yet, you should definately go read about the world of Sanctuary... About the Nephalem and the making of the plane of Sanctuary as well as why the war for it started in the first place.
It was toned down, but not to the degree D3 from D2. Even in acts 1-2 there were still many places that still made nailed the creepy and the feeling of you know something has gone wrong. Harem+Arcane Sanctum are probably the two best areas back-to-back. Maggot Lair had the intense feeling of claustrophobia, and there is of course Old Tristram and Countess.

Well, even though i kinda like the look, i definitely wouldn't consider it dark. Saturated and colorful is more like it.

Threatening to not buy the game and declaring it will suck because of the art style is really quite ... strange and I doubt any of you will not play it.
Blizzard games are always awesome, D2 was insanely good and D3 will be as well. Feel free to cry about how horrible the game is when you've actually gotten to play it instead of theorycrafting how terrible it is ahead of time.
You have quite a treasure in that Horadric cube.
have you even read the thread? People aren't saying the game play will suck because of this, we're saying the atmosphere is being ruined.
Don't agree.
I hope Blizzard keeps it the way it is and doesn't listen to the vocal whiners continually bitching and moaning.

Those fiery levels like Torchlight without cartoony characters
