I had hoped teamliquid would be better than this, I guess not.
I'm playing a Barbarian. I'm almost done act 3, and I haven't had a "ton" of time to play, working full time. The Barbarian is my only non-hardcore character above level 50. I'm ahead of all my friends. I have zero doubt whatsoever that if I was unemployed or a student with tons of time to play, I would be done Inferno by now.
Don't spew bullshit with nothing to back it up.
show me your auction house tab, how many of those items just purely wouldnt exist if people hadnt bullshitted their way into act3 on day2.
Look at the HC. People are progressing just fine without all this chest farming/exploiting. It's possible to progress through the game just fine without "massive help".
Not really. They're just taking longer to get to the good farming spots, which might have been nerfed before they even reach it. If they do, then it's business as usual.
Yes you can proceed just fine without help, but it'll take a lot more time to do so.
What's the rush? Are you racing to get first inferno diablo or something?
There's no rush. However, someone claimed that you could progress really quickly without exploiting. I'll quote it here:

lol. ive said it before, not a single person in the game right now playing a barb or monk in act 4 got there in anything resembling solo, they have all consistently been helped massively by friends or have a ranged farming hero themselves.

Edit: From the way he posted, he might still be stuck in Hell difficulty.... which explains everything.
Nope, Inferno. Didn't think I had to specify that since everything pre-inferno is a joke.
I think about half my gear was purchased, half was found. Since I'm on act 3 right now, anything that is possible to drop, can be dropped for me. My gear is significantly below most of the common "suggested values" on the official D3 board.
Don't assume that your experience is identical to everyone else's.
Nowhere in my post did I claim that it could be done quickly. I'm taking my time.
How many hours have you spent? You say that you haven't spent a "ton" of time playing, but that's subjective. If you're undergeared, you just keep dying over and over again. Period.
Don't know if you're still following this thread, but it turns out it's 73 hours. I must have played a bit more during the first weekend than I thought. That's still reasonable compared to the time that others have put in.
Well, how did you do it? Some special build or farming spot? I have about 110 hours played and I've just gotten enough gear to farm most of A2 comfortably, and I'm still getting destroyed in A3 by anything but white mobs (and even those are really hard).
I posted something previous about what I did (it's the last post on page 604).
Honestly, I think there is more of a skill/strategy/tactics/planning/whatever you want to call it, element to this game than most people give it credit for.
If I walk into a group of mobs, and expect to win by swinging my sword around, I die fast.
If I try to kite and just get a few hits in here and there, I will eventually run out of gas and die.
I find myself trying to find ways to use the terrain to split up monsters, using Leap/Furious Charge in ways that keep a minimum number of things from hitting me.
I would add through, that even though I'm "on Act 3", Act 3 still tears the shit out of me if anything goes wrong. I'm currently stuck on the ballista area working towards Siegebreaker, but I feel like I'm just a bit of practice and a small amount of gear away from breaking through that.
Edit: missed the "farming" part of the question. I don't have any tricks. I did Warden/Butcher runs, until I was comfortably able to do Kuule/Belial runs. I tried doing runs at Ghom, but it wasn't efficient at all. I will admit, I've had some really nice luck. I've gotten a few caster/dex drops that I've been able to sell for over 1mil, and turn into nice gear. I also don't do any AH buy low/sell high stuff. I find AHing boring, so I can't be fucked to do that.
Video I made for a machinima contest, but I was late on the submission. After putting many hours into this game, I can safely safe that cultists have the worst job in Diablo 3. Poor souls.

i did it at 56 but it was still way too dangerous, just farm the doom in wortham quest until 58 or so (gives same exp as killing belial and is faster/easier) . No reason to go to act 3 or 4 to risk dying.

You know it increases damage received by enemies right? It won't show up on the buff list because it doesn't change anything about your hero, it just puts a negative buff on the enemies. Not sure if that's what you are asking.

uh...................
It shows up on my hero and the enemies receive more damage from me, yes...
It shows up on allies too. I noticed it when I double activated. You WILL NOT see it if there is too many buffs on him so yours doesn't show. (NV, Warcry, Frenzy, original mantra of conviction, and the double proc won't show up I think) And obviously it would be retarded if it didn't work on allies and they didn't mention it...

No, I think its the only one that isn't for you and your allies. All the other mantras write specifically for you + allies.

Pretty amateur mistake to make the cultist speaking part of a 5 man circle, but when he dies he is part of a 3 man circle, other than that it was hilarious

It shows up on your buff list because it's a sustained ability you're using. I've always thought it was for allies too but could be I'm wrong. Wouldn't make sense at all though.

And they are also receiving more damage from your allies. My main teammate is a Monk, and I know I hit harder with him around.
I don't get the buff icon, because it's not a buff. It is a debuff that is on the monsters to make them take more damage. The Monk gets a buff to indicate the aura is debuffing nearby enemies.
well i just got my refund (along with 3 of my friends) and i had over 150 hrs played.
diablo has turned from a hack'n'slash, to a hack'n'cash game. a huge reason that many people will continue to play is because they want to sell stuff on the RMAH...a disgrace really.
one of my friends who didnt get a refund has been farming gold for ages just to sell it when the RMAH comes out. is this even a game anymore? who plays a game to make a few hundred bucks? not worth the time at all.

I don't know about him, but I played to have fun, and I enjoyed farming stuff.
The thousand dollars I got for my gear was just a bonus.

hardcore
would but the community generally likes the smell of their own farts. same as in every game that has a hardcore mode.
used fart because of the south park episode, because they remind me exactly of the people in that episode

This is absurd.
You bought a game, and played it for 150 hours.
ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY HOURS.
That is an INCREDIBLE value for your money. Clearly you enjoyed the game if you played it that much. I think Blizzard should be denying refunds to anyone with more than 10 hours of game played time.

i don't understand. people buy things all the time for thousands of dollars are they are entitled to a full money back guarantee if the product didn't give them what they wanted it to.
