Case of the Crabs is a really good game. Just a short graphic adventure kind of like Broken Sword with impressive production values: http://www.otterarchives.com/cotc.html

1. It's not about flash games. 2. It's not about immensely popular games (quake live) that are advertised all over the web. Read the thread title again please...

I'd never heard of quake live until this thread. Also the community is pretty tiny it seems like.

It had awesome music and was quite fun. I think you're talking about Within a Deep Forest. Awesome game, awesome soundtrack.

http://www.thewayoftheninja.org/ ![]() Control a ninja, maneuver obstacles, collect goooooold. This game has been the source of many laughs, "whoa" moments, and at least one keyboard broken out of frustration in my house. My brother and his best friend are tied for 20th on the XBL version, out of 277,000 players. Oh, and there are TONS and TONS of user-created levels, and you can make your own with a very easy-to-use editor.

I believe Savage 2 is free now. Like Savage 1, it's a game that tries to combine MMO, FPS, and RTS elements into one big clusterfuck. I actually brought the game during a steam sale and ended up never playing it because my gaming laptop died on me and then the game went free (people who brought the game might get some advantages, not sure what though) like a month later. http://www.savage2.com/en/main.php ![]() Savage 1 is also free on their website. Phantasy Star Online's server was taken down by sega a few years back, but theres private servers running that are pretty well runned. Their servers are even compatible with gamecube/Dreamcast versions of the game and any PC/laptop should be able to run it (even initegrated graphics). Google "Phantasy Star Blue Burst" (apparently that's what the latest official PC version was called). ![]() Honorable mention to Alien Swarm. You can download that from Valve on Steam completely free. Lastly I like to mention that Turbine is making Lord of the Rings Online free to play soon like DDO and there's a Company of Heroes online, a F2P game coming out soon.

LoL is probably too mainstream for this thread, its at the top of most played multiplayer pc games lists. As far as I know there was no passing the torch from Eul to Guinsoo, Eul disappeared into anonymity at The Frozen Throne release and Guinsoo created All-Stars by liberally using stuff from DotA. IceFrog doesn't just approve HoN, he works/worked for S2, see Pendragon letter on http://www.dota-allstars.com/index.html.
