Patch is great, agree the city states seem to take a while now, probably because the AI is so much quicker at its turns thank god! Finally having a go at a huge map on epic speed rather than large and standard.
Immortal has got way harder too, everyone's a complete (even more so) nutjob early game it seems!

Haha, check out this game my mates and I were playing on deity, the Aztecs were soooo aggressive. It was pretty funny. We ended up losing, partly due to some gumby setting I put on but yeah. The AIs can get pretty agro on you.
I bought it at Release for 20$ and it was worth it. But haven't played it in a long time, because I have so many Games on my List. I just can't stop buying good Games if they are cheap or just really good.
I wonder what Firaxis is doing right now. Since the Expo, there was no DLC or any News at all.
I wonder if G&K is worth it in the Steam Sale. I bought Civ V vanilla after playing the demo and universal good ratings in the press. Although I put a lot of hours into it, I was kinda disappointed. It was the first game I bought from the series and I don't know if G&K changes stuff to the better or if the whole Civ series is not my style.
- Couldn't do much in diplomacy and couldn't comprehend AI actions. I felt that it wasn't rewarding to have allies and I couldn't get long-term allies because AI acted so randomly. - No scenarios in vanilla. The game doesn't feel very "historic" like e.g. Age of Empires 2. You tech so fast through all the epochs. - I don't know if I played it right, but combat was just the AI mass suiciding his army while I was only teching to armies that roflstomp everything. - Gameplay wasn't very diverse for me - I never felt that choosing between culture, expansion, tech, war led to different, exciting and equally potent styles of gameplay. - Lategame slowed down the game despite my computer having decent specs. Also, I think the game didn't get more exciting as my empire was growing.
~~ Maybe I just play the game wrongly? Don't know, maybe I was expecting something more like a Master of Orion 2.
Got Civ5 + G&K now that they're finally both 75% off. Civ games are always fun for me, and this is no exception. In my first game, looks like I should be nuking them before most of them manage to get any gunpowder units. Maybe a higher difficulty for the next round. >.>
Bought it a couple days ago for 50% off, i think it's still 50 off till Jan 6. G&K does improve the game, if civ 5 allowed culture creep and flip of cities like civ 4 and the AI could also be a little less one dimensional. It's also a little too hard to manage happiness if you start conquering enemy cities or just like building huge number of cities.Apart from that it's a great game.
G&K is $4.49 right now @ --> Green Man Gaming <-- and if you use coupon code GMG30-DPLIM-DN831 you get 30% off so your basically getting the game for 3.00 USD

I haven't played a Civ game in ages but I'm looking to get back into the series.
- Espionage is extremely weakly implemented. I really miss Diplomat/Spy units and although the direct Espionage menu plays well with the direct Diplomacy between nations, it basically becomes a glorified progress bar screen. All your spies can do is steal tech or thwart enemy spies who are trying to steal tech? There's so much that can be done with this, it's really a shame that it's so barebones.
- I don't really understand the Religion concept. I thought it would be more of a pseudo-espionage thing (like religious subversion) but it seems all it does is give your civ growth bonuses. Is there more to Religion than I'm seeing? While Faith kind of seems "nice to have" it doesn't feel like something anyone should actually invest in, and the maintenance costs of Temples and Shrines really add up. Sure, you can have some extra Happiness or Faith or Culture here and there, but there doesn't seem to be anything that has a direct impact on rivals as a result of your more influential religion.
- City-States are way more interesting now. I love how varied they are both in terms of quests offered and types/personalities. This was a fantastic enhancement over vanilla Civ5 where they just sort of... existed.
- Austria's City-State absorbing perk is incredible. City-States always take such good care of their cities (in terms of improvements built) and you get all their units too. I picked up the expansion after the balance patch that nerfed Austria's bonus, and I can't imagine how powerful it was in its earlier incarnation.
Fun game overall. Civ lives again at my place. Really interested to see future patches from Firaxis.

I agree with everything you say except the religion concept. The +Faith for certain tiles or Luxury perks + Pilgrimage (+faith for +1 Faith for each foreign city following this religion)+ Holy Warriors (buy units with faith) + Defender of the Faith (combat bonus nearby cities of same religion) makes for a hyper aggressive crusade war machine that can get you to quickly knock out rivals in the early game if you spread your religion to rivals quickly!
Since my favourite RTS is SC, WC3 and Dune 2000, is Civ 5 is worth getting? what about G&K?. Its on sale right now and I want to know if its better to play multiplayer on civ 5 alone or G&K (if there is multiplayer).
