10/10 3.5 hours of motion picture history. I liked just about everything in this movie, although he could probably cut 5 minutes of crying farmers but the rest is done superbly. All the characters are done very well and the scenes with Yohei and Kikuchiyo are lovely :D
I just got done watching Noriko no shokutaku or "Noriko's Dinner Table" a Japanese movie released in 2005, directed and written by Sion Sono. The movie is a prequel to another cult film directed and written by the same guy that was released in 2002, Suicide Club. You do not need to have seen Suicide Club to fully enjoy and understand this film. I though Suicide Club was an awful and garbage movie and would have never expected this one to be as phenomenal as it is. Noriko's Dinner Table is classified as a Drama/Horror movie and here is the plot synopsis :
A teenager called Noriko Shimabara runs away from her family in Tokoyama, to meet Kumiko, the leader of an Internet BBS, Haikyo.com. She becomes involved with Kumiko's "family circle", which grows darker after the mass suicide of 54 high school girls.
Now the reason I'm sharing this movie with ya'll fine folks is because it's one of the most deep, interesting and original movie I've ever seen. I've been watching pretty close to at least one movie everyday since 6 years now... Very few movies had a deep impact on me, be it emotionally or intellectually. This movie definitely challenged me intellectually, it is so deep and profound on so many levels, psychologically, philosophically, religiously, it reflects on existence, the role or purpose of individuals, life and society. There's so many metaphorical meanings, subtilities and symbols and it's all backed by an original, interesting character driven story. The movie is divided into chapters, one for each of the main characters. And thus the viewer can achieve what the characters themselves can't: understand other people's motives and feelings. That to me was impressive. And I figured since the people on this board apparently loves real content and meaningful stuff, I'd share it here.
I agree with you, this movie is Sono's best and probably one of my all time favourites, but I doubt people on this board loves real content and meaningful films. That's just not true. They might think they do, but still go enjoy the latest blockbuster every month on cinema. Most people would find Noriko's Dinner Table boring or slow.
Popular French movies started to lack depth years ago, I'm not sure what it is. Easy to watch though which is a plus. And Ludivine Sagnier was absolutely smoking hot.
as always xD i love her. always remembers me to my time with living with a french family in montpellier & having a guest sister quite simulare to her... was amazing xD
i tried to watch all her movies but sometimes its not possible because hard to find. but theres one i REALLY want to see. # Little Lili (2003) .... Emilier Novacki, dite Lili ... aka "La petite Lili" - France (original title)

Watch Rashomon and Yojimbo and you´ll already be giving 11 to 12 out of 10. Kurosawa is the best director of all time...
I just watched Old Boy with my mate.... Simply incredible, I have seen most of the imdb top 250 and that movie deserves so much higher position... I´d say it´s one of those movies everyone HAS to see.
And AFTER.LIFE ...not so good, a bit too slow movie IMO( although Old Boy felt like 1000 times slower but it was just so good) Liam Neeson and Ricci were both pretty good in this so wouldn´t call it total crap.
Because I´m sick and can´t apparently sleep I just watched Nausicaa....and well what can I say. Miyazakis best of all I´ve seen so far and they are all excellent O.o

I second the 11/12 out of 10 for those 2 movies, it's great.
Toshiro Mifune is my favorite actor and all the movies he collaborated with director Akira Kurosawa are just amazing. If you plan on watching Yojimbo and like it don't forget to watch the second part called Sanjuro!

the old woman was winona ryder right?
if they were in love and edward was still alive how come they never saw eachother after the day edward killed the dude
ending was bad i think
Erm... because it was the "right" thing to do. Didn't you get that everybody hated Edward except his love? He didn't belong to that world, so he had to hide alone.
American Beauty - 9.5/10 WOW amazing film O__O i'm speechless
Leon, the professional - 9.5/10 Interesting characters. a little slow-paced but the film manages to keep you enticed for the whole movie!!
L.A.Confidential - 9/10 really liked this one. a lot of interesting characters and are full of depth, which is weird for a cop movie
Cloudy with a chance of meatballs - 8/10 surprisingly GOOD. don't really know why i like this
Requiem of a Dream - 7.5/10 interesting cinematography, awesome soundtrack, style in its own. But truthfully, i didn't really like it and i fought hard trying to not sleep

Just watched this, had it on my list for almost a year, kept putting it away.
Holy
Fucking
Shit
You are being very disrespectful trying to rate this at 9.5
It doesn't matter what it lacks. It has more than enough to be 10/10. Perfect movies don't score 10, amazing movies do. This was one of them
Oh my god, I cannot believe I haven't seen it until today. Full of emotions right now.
P.S. anyone thought Shutter Islands ending (great, great movie) had something to do with Oldboy? It is such an offchance, but it seems that Oldboy manga was released years before Shutter Island the novel, the novel actually came out same year as Oldboy the movie (2003)
I saw this a few years ago and It's still high on my list of Best Comedies. I recently re-watched it because I saw there was an American version of it. I haven't seen it yet, But I have a feeling it won't be as good. I'd recommend the version above to anyone, It's hilarious.
I'm not a fan of Jamie Foxx or Tom Cruise, But This movie was pretty good.
I also watched "Let the right one In" Because of this thread, and I have got to say it was great considering the current trend in Vampire flicks. Again, I see there's an American version of it coming out that seems to take a more Horror aspect. Film makers these days often fuck things up, I'm disappointed. Just from the previews alone I don't think It will hold a candle to the Swedish version.
