The Iron Claw painted Kerry Von Erich as a very sympathetic figure. Here is Kerry Von Erich from a different perspective...
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/QZrcnvvWkFA

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/FNVow68kf8A
when the commentator says "was there a lot of jealousy about the rats". The gangs of women who have sex with pro wrestlers are known as "ring rats" or "rats".

The Iron Claw is a good movie... however... it is a very carefully curated, edited version of the real life of the Von Erich family.

Just finished Frankenstein.

Movie was beautifully shot, was just stunning on OLED TV.
I love the colour, contrast and framing.

Story-wise I wasn't super happy with some of the changes done, especially on romance side and how some characters are portrayed.
Overall it kinda lessened the philosophical side of it, makes for more drama.

But watching it really highlights just how great the story is, even with the changes.

On the same note I just watched the count of monte cristo (2024). It is interesting since the source material is ~300k words. With 1.5h per 30k words for a full coverage it would be 15 hours long. So each version picks what they think makes a strong story since there is so much potential material.

There ended up being some gaps due to the large gap from 3h to 15h. But it was a strong portrayal and the story stays strong.

Thats my assessment as well. The color was so striking for a Netflix production.

I've seen Project Hail Mary and it was rather meh. Looks pretty and the buddy comedy is ok but pretty much all the "science" in this fiction is wrong, the movie is also way too long (could easily cut out all the scenes at Earth without any damage to the plot). Kinda disappointing.

It definitely was over hyped, but still a decent watch, especially in IMAX.

The Earth scene is really about building him out as a character, and how he progressed into the "hero".
Although I wasn't sure the ending delivered that message, imo it felt a bit weird since teaching wasn't what he wanted to do in the first place.

I understand that they wanted to build him up as a character this way and have the progression from coward to hero basically but the overall plot would remain completely intact if he was simply a good scientist who went on this mission. Pretty much all that happens on Earth is mostly unnecessary exposition dumps and character trait depictions that don't really have any bearing on what happens in the movie. IMO without those scenes the script would be tighter, movie a bit shorter and the overall experience better.

I personally found the earth scenes the most engaging on an emotional level. If I got to pick I would probably have enjoyed a story more on the people left behind based on how the movie tells the story.

I couldn't connect with the second main character in movie format, had a friend say they thought of it as a dog and thus got a strong emotional connection. If I recall correctly it worked better for me in book format (though that was years ago). Thus a lot of the important scenes had good visuals and music but no emotional connection for me.

I will agree with the science working poorly in the movie. It is also one of the harder ones for them I think. They cannot stray too far from the book and thus have to use what was there in some cases. Then they are limited in time available from being able to show more air locks and other infrastructure required to make things work. + Show Spoiler +
I personally found the combination of the human always having to do everything such as using the cockpit thrusters then space walking, then back especially jarring when it is later shown the alien can manipulate objects outside the atmosphere bubble.

Still kept me engaged more than most movies. A solid movie overall for me. Not as great as something like Chainsaw Man but I don't regret watching it.

Scary movie 6

The bad:
Some jokes didn't land for me.
some of the trans/LGBTQ++ jokes are just not nearly as funny than what we have in the real life.
Canada new democratic party convention with the equity card is some of the funniest thing I have ever seen.

the story was a bit loose, skits after skits. It focused a lot more on the old characters meeting the new etc.

A bit disappointed how little horror movies were really used, and the there are quite a few non horror that had pretty long sequences.
I would have loved if it came out next year with the recent horror hits, obsession, the room, exit 8 etc.

The good:
There's some funny bits that had the cinema laughing quite loud, and you can tell some jokes landed well but people kinda held back because it's "inappropriate".

I liked the "actual story" of this movie, it's a parody on all the reboot with younger but almost same characters.

Some really surprising and great cameo.

Rating : 5/10
At the end of the day, this is a movie that you know it's gonna be quite stupid, but I gotta say, it almost feels foreign now and I miss it.
I am surprised they didn't put a trump character, would have been perfect.

Hopefully this gets a great box office and we can have white chick 2 because it is probably my fav comedy movie ever.

Stuff like this allows comedians like Matt Walsh to have a field day. the NDP used to be great.

Check out "Prairie Giant: The Tommy Douglas Story" if you want to see how far the NDP has fallen. It has some acknowledged historical inaccuracies, but it is a good movie with most facts correct and it captures the spirit of Tommy Douglas. I'd give it a 7.5/10.

Disclosure day

Pretty decent overall, there's just something different with Steven Spielberg's movie. The music, the cinematography.
dumb-ish characters but makes for some interesting plots.

The story is almost mirroring of what's happening today, war and UFO disclosure, and kinda makes for an awkward timing of it all.

This is also a movie very easy to spoil if you know what will happen, so if you want to watch it, watch it early. the trailer and posters have definitely shown too much.

Personally the biggest negative, is that it's just a bit middle of the road with everything, I wish it committed harder in one direction.

Rating : 7.5/10

8/10 if you just find today's movie are all a bit samey, and missing some positivity/cautionary messagw

I don't usually watch movies but my fiancee dragged me out to watch Obsession and the movie certainly lives up to the hype.

It's a common trope (be careful what you wish for) done in an incredible way. Inde Navarrette was incredible to watch, a stellar performance. I've seen Curry Barker's skits before and never quite connected the dots but it's great to see these indie Youtubers who make amazing free content be able to capitalize and monetize their creativity that we really don't see as much from Hollywood.

9.5/10 and will definitely be a contender for the Oscars. Only reason it doesn't hit that 10 is because it's a reasonably common trope so you sort of see where the story is headed at every turn, but that doesn't take away from the movie as a whole.

Horror is on a roll.
Obsession is probably the best out of all newer ones. Some of the newer horror like talk to me had a bit too much humor in it.

I would recommend :
Bring her back
Smile 2
Weapon
The invisible man

I also like long legs but some find it too slow paced, which I kinda understand.

Milly Alcock isn't the only female woman heroine having to fight the patriarchy and live outside the binary of what society thinks a woman should be. (Whatever that means ..her comment not mine)

Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman faced the same misogyny and in the face of that anti-woman hate she took matters into her own hands; she nearly chokes to death ABC anchorman Tom Brokaw with her magic lasso after he makes a sexist comment.
The action begin at 1:40.

It'll be interesting to see if the Supergirl movie coming out tomorrow is better than the 1984 disaster. That movie is comedy gold.

1 criticism of the upcoming movie I've heard... "In the last 10 Superman movies he saves the world. In Supergirl, she saves herself"... Sounds like Ayn Rand would be proud; a strong independent woman herself! 😎

Milly says the movie is not about any man or "love" in any way and that makes it great. This will get millions of women to go see it. There is nothing women enjoy more than a movie with no men in it and no love story at all. 😎.

All stupidity aside: R.I.P. Catherine O'Hara. What an absolute, total fucking bad-ass. Canada is a lesser nation with her gone.

Ehh... Super Girl is a disaster because the plot is absolutely terrible and has nothing going for it. 0 character growth, 0 drama, 0 romance, 0 anything. Hollywood never learns that if the protagonist doesn't care then the audience won't care either. And if you want to do the whole girlboss thing then you don't need a superhero, you need a proper woman villain because it's usually villains who make the movie and are remembered more. Vader has 1000x more fans and is 1000x cooler than Luke. Maul is the most recognizable and considered the most iconic character of the SW prequels despite having very little screen time.

I'm actually more interested how Odyssey is going to do. Nolan is a big name and usually brings success but Odyssey is horribly miscast for one and it has to deal with obvious Troy comparisons which had excellent casting and was a smash hit.

I can't really recall any great female villains. There are obviously a bunch but none stick out as famous. Googling I see The Wicked Witch of the West and Maleficent. Compare that with another action hero such as Ellen Ripley or even Hermione Granger and they are much more famous.

As for Odyssey, seems to be another big budget movie that is missing the mark. Nolan hasn't made a smash hit since Interstellar 13 years ago. Happy if I am proved wrong and he still has it in him.

Cruela :D, they had to stop all female villain after that, probably.

Marvel has some decent ones: Hela from Thor: Ragnarok, or Scarlet Witch from... wherever she's a villain. DC has its own share, but mostly they're Batman villains, and probably not that enticing vs Supergirl. I'm not familiar with the Supergirl comics so not sure what they can draw on, but the CW series did okay (didn't watch it, though), so there has to be something somewhat interesting they can draw from, right?

The White Witch from Narnia is pretty memorable.
But you get many within the same few categories: evil ice queen/ stepmother, the hag, and the temptress.
