The Iron Claw painted Kerry Von Erich as a very sympathetic figure. Here is Kerry Von Erich from a different perspective... https://www.youtube.com/shorts/QZrcnvvWkFA
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/FNVow68kf8A when the commentator says "was there a lot of jealousy about the rats". The gangs of women who have sex with pro wrestlers are known as "ring rats" or "rats".
The Iron Claw is a good movie... however... it is a very carefully curated, edited version of the real life of the Von Erich family.

Just finished Frankenstein.
Movie was beautifully shot, was just stunning on OLED TV. I love the colour, contrast and framing.
Story-wise I wasn't super happy with some of the changes done, especially on romance side and how some characters are portrayed. Overall it kinda lessened the philosophical side of it, makes for more drama.
But watching it really highlights just how great the story is, even with the changes.

On the same note I just watched the count of monte cristo (2024). It is interesting since the source material is ~300k words. With 1.5h per 30k words for a full coverage it would be 15 hours long. So each version picks what they think makes a strong story since there is so much potential material.
There ended up being some gaps due to the large gap from 3h to 15h. But it was a strong portrayal and the story stays strong.

I've seen Project Hail Mary and it was rather meh. Looks pretty and the buddy comedy is ok but pretty much all the "science" in this fiction is wrong, the movie is also way too long (could easily cut out all the scenes at Earth without any damage to the plot). Kinda disappointing.

The Earth scene is really about building him out as a character, and how he progressed into the "hero". Although I wasn't sure the ending delivered that message, imo it felt a bit weird since teaching wasn't what he wanted to do in the first place.

I understand that they wanted to build him up as a character this way and have the progression from coward to hero basically but the overall plot would remain completely intact if he was simply a good scientist who went on this mission. Pretty much all that happens on Earth is mostly unnecessary exposition dumps and character trait depictions that don't really have any bearing on what happens in the movie. IMO without those scenes the script would be tighter, movie a bit shorter and the overall experience better.

I personally found the earth scenes the most engaging on an emotional level. If I got to pick I would probably have enjoyed a story more on the people left behind based on how the movie tells the story.
I couldn't connect with the second main character in movie format, had a friend say they thought of it as a dog and thus got a strong emotional connection. If I recall correctly it worked better for me in book format (though that was years ago). Thus a lot of the important scenes had good visuals and music but no emotional connection for me.
I will agree with the science working poorly in the movie. It is also one of the harder ones for them I think. They cannot stray too far from the book and thus have to use what was there in some cases. Then they are limited in time available from being able to show more air locks and other infrastructure required to make things work. + Show Spoiler +I personally found the combination of the human always having to do everything such as using the cockpit thrusters then space walking, then back especially jarring when it is later shown the alien can manipulate objects outside the atmosphere bubble.
Still kept me engaged more than most movies. A solid movie overall for me. Not as great as something like Chainsaw Man but I don't regret watching it.

Scary movie 6
The bad: Some jokes didn't land for me. some of the trans/LGBTQ++ jokes are just not nearly as funny than what we have in the real life. Canada new democratic party convention with the equity card is some of the funniest thing I have ever seen.
the story was a bit loose, skits after skits. It focused a lot more on the old characters meeting the new etc.
A bit disappointed how little horror movies were really used, and the there are quite a few non horror that had pretty long sequences. I would have loved if it came out next year with the recent horror hits, obsession, the room, exit 8 etc.
The good: There's some funny bits that had the cinema laughing quite loud, and you can tell some jokes landed well but people kinda held back because it's "inappropriate".
I liked the "actual story" of this movie, it's a parody on all the reboot with younger but almost same characters.
Some really surprising and great cameo.
Rating : 5/10 At the end of the day, this is a movie that you know it's gonna be quite stupid, but I gotta say, it almost feels foreign now and I miss it. I am surprised they didn't put a trump character, would have been perfect.
Hopefully this gets a great box office and we can have white chick 2 because it is probably my fav comedy movie ever.
