I think book of Eli would have been way better received if they just left the the religious stuff anonymous instead of directly tying it to christianity.

I loved it though.

I recommend a movie called 'A Serious Man', a new Coen brothers film (Burn after Reading, No Country for Old men) and 'The Girl Who Leapt Through Time', a anime about a teenage girl with a sci fi time traveling twist.

I just watched requiem for a dream, it's a 2000 movie but god it creepied me out. This movie is a must i gotta say, especially if you experienced drugs.

Salt was much better than Inception. 100% better action scenes (Bourne Identity type action, rather than crappy upsidedown buildings that are supposedly meant to be awesome but are just dumb), the 'twist' was a whole lot more interesting too than gayass dreaming within dreams.

I concur. It is rare that someone manages to put so many wrong statements into such short post.

salt was alright because it was a short movie whereas inception was another long nolan movie, but salt was a little cheesy, whereas inception was a lot more dramatic imo

I was being sarcastic though, I wouldn't want to see another A.Jolie movie even if someone was dragging me there. I nominated that comment because it was so horrible and clueless that it became classic in my book.

I feel sorry for making you sit through that.

How come there is so much talk about Book of Eli? The Road was 100x better, also post-apocalyptic and released the same year. Book of Eli was ok but no where near as good as many of the other movies in the genre or with the same setting.

Is Salt actually worth watching? I saw the trailer when I was watching Inception and it looked like a contender for worst movie of the year judging by that. If it wasn't a veiled parody on bad action movies.

Sweet movie, definitely worth a watch if you can see it for free. I don't understand how they got lindsay lohan to do nude scenes and were able to cast jessica alba as a main character, but without those two facts this movie just wouldn't be as good. Either way, though, sweet action and a sweet main character as well as hilarious cameos and mexican jokes. Good stuff.

Fucking epic! I can't believe I didn't see that one before.

I know it's a classic, but protagonists decisionmaking in this movie is rather dubious and the story itself is pretty weak with a lot of untied ends and stupid shit. Good idea, nice acting from AP (as usual) but it got screwed.

AP gets so much credit for everything he's ever done it's really a shame. He's not a great actor, never was. Just one example, "one of the greatest scenes":

I thought the twist was pretty dumb.

If you can infiltrate that many extremely well trained, educated, pedigreed people into all those high level positions across government, why not just groom a presidential candidate instead? One of them is going to win.

I think this might be my favorite Wes Anderson (Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums, Life Aquatic) movie to date. It's distinctively one of his films, from the dialogue to the shots. and the character are all lovable. It's not just a cute kids story (not that Roald Dahl books ever were), it's a really well done movie. If you're a fan of Anderson, go see it. If you're a fan of Roald Dahl, go see it.

Also, Willem Dafoe is in it.

i haven't seen this, obviously since its not out yet, but i'll post it anyways because this is TL's main movie thread and i wanna put this thread back in business

features Emma Stone, and is already pretty highly acclaimed
its PG-13, borderline R, and its an hour and a half
perfect characteristics for a movie to be seen online, but idk if you wanna pay theatres for the length

In my opinion Book of Eli is in a completely different film genre to The Road, the two aren't really comparable.

Watched "Up in the Air" not too long ago, it was pretty fantastic. But the last one I saw in theaters was Machete... which was hilarious... Machete don't text.

The road was garbage, nothing progressively happened. There was no actual development of the story. I really don't understand why people like it.

Just watched Iron Man 2 with my flatmate....
seriously the worst movie I´ve seen since something like 2002ish? (it was an Ice-T movie I only could watch for like 10 minutes it was so bad)

Granted I don´t watch a lot shitty movies or hollywood productions but that just had to be the worst thing imaginable. Even if it was meant for like 10 year old kids that movie was so degrading...I´m speechless. And to have a great actor like Don Cheadle (Hotel Rwanda anyone?) in it...just goes over my head. I normally don´t get this mad after seeing a bad movie, it says it all really.

Luckily I´ve seen some nice movies too recently:
Love Exposure
Swing Girls
3-Iron
Departures
Internal Affairs

just to name a few. Most of these thanks to TL recommendations.

Pretty good movie about an unappreciated youth and the uncertainty that sort of thing causes. One of the significant French New Wave films (the movement that really inspired and brought the modern age of films). I didn't immediately love it, it's one of those where it ended and my immediate reaction was "Hmm." Then his character became more and more realized in my head upon reflection.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, your opinion man
