well it really is a no brainer I think, iron islanders wanted to surrender, they were 20 and surrounded by 500 men, I guess they surrender and then northerners went all crazy and burned everything to ground? though there really isn't a clue as to why, maybe to purge the salt water stink? since it makes no sense why the iron born would burn it and then northerners wouldn't put the fire out

Or another faction came and burned everything :o We don't have really an idea of time, besides the fact that the old man didn't die.

Also they did have orders to let anyone of the Iron men go free if they surrendered. That is probably why they bagged his head. BUT how would they have known they would be free to go home once surrendered??

The islanders surrendered and then dragons torched winterfell along with the small army?
Also, the wights obviously didn't kill sam because they are not cold-blooded killers. They may be cold-blooded and killers, but not cold-blooded killers.

Am I the only person who thinks season 1 >season 2?

Not having read the books I do have a question for show viewers: Are we sure they were Bastard's troops outside of Winterfell by what we saw in the show?

Where is Stanis? He was captured, but from what I see he's back in his own castle.

That would be my guess. Maybe Lord Frey, the guy with the daughter that was suppose to wed King Robb got pissed and decided to turn on the Starks then burnt Winterfell down.
Couldn't Tyrian ask for his father's help? I thought they had a good relationship now since he did named him Hand of the King and did a good job at it.
I also agree with other posters that the ending of the warlock scene was a bit cheesy.

One of the best episodes yet for the entire GoT series. I think book enthusiasts (I mean fans beyond the average reader) must have loved this episode because it moved the plot along so smoothly and authentically. The weakest scene was definitely Dany's triumph over Pyat Pree, which did not live up to its climax. However, the haunting scene of the destroyed throne room and Dany's reunion with Drogo were beautifully done. The episode certainly did not explain certain events very clearly, especially the sacking of Winterfell, but for those who have read and meticulously understand the books, this episode was beautiful.
I suppose I am a little disappointed with several missed opportunities to include more details and nuances from the book, but this episode still exceeded all my expectations. A much better episode than the last, which was mainly to cater for those who have been disappointed in the lack of actual fighting. However, this episode really brought the essence of ASOIAF to life, being filled with intrigue, lies, plots within plots, personal faults and triumphs and drums up a lot of suspense for the action in the next season.
Edit: I'd vote Theon Greyjoy and Varys as the best-acted parts. Dinklage's Tyrion has always had a feeling of melodrama beyond his characterisation in the book series, although he has improved in that regard this season. Alfie Allen actually has made me a fan of Theon in the series, which I'd never have thought possible before this season.

Need help clarifying the visions that Khaleesi had in the House of the Undying. Her almost touching the Throne seemed like foreshadowing to me; as in she will one day be VERY close to sitting in it but never actually fully owning it. OR could that have been a vision of the past instead of one of the future? Next we have Khal Drogo and her died child. The scene was very well done and the child was a nice touch. BUT! What I do not understand was why she walked threw the Northern Wall? Both the Throne and Khal Drogo and her child seemed to have been used as distractions from her three Dragons or maybe used to increase her eagerness to find them or maybe used to keep he in that hallucination. Either way the Wall seemed out of place. What connection does she have to the Wall?? (no spoilers please)

They also let the guy at the start of season 1 go for some reason. Maybe they don't kill cowards or something.

Yes the town-burning and warlock-dying scenes were meh, but overall I can't wait to see more white walkers :D

Tyrion looks more badass with scar. Thats scary necromancer died YAY! Leader of the white-walkers looks like Leshrac from DotA :D :D :D + Show Spoiler + Lastly, i want to see more jaqen h'ghar(Valar Morghulis) in S3!!!!!

Man, how cool would it have been if Arya became a badass assassin? I think there is so much potential for badassery in the series that isn't tapped.. I know the story is meant to be plot and character driven but things like magic, assassins, sword fighting and such would still make the show so much more interesting

This season really could have used two more episodes. Some plotlines and characters were seriously gutted.
|
I do hope this means Samwell the fat klutz gets killed off. Hes always pissing me off. Hopefully he gets what he deserves (if one could say such a thing for fictitious character in a tv-series) for failing at running, falling over and then yelling for his buddies to come back for him while standing still instead of running.

Why didn't the warlock just sit in his apartment and send an illusion to talk to daennarys?
