Also, when did Jaime promise to go North to help team Dany? I understand his reasoning, just don't remember him making any pledges in the episode. By the way, Jaime going North means he'll probably meet Bran. Awkward... He promised his sister he wouldn’t tell anyone because Robert would kill Jon. Robert spent a good amount of time trying to kill Dany. Robert didn’t want sister’s kid to become a political pawn. We don’t know why he never told his wife, but maybe he felt it would be easier to hide Jon if his wife hated Jon.

Dany/Aegon living in happy life as king and queen would be the lamest end ever for got, this is not supposed to be a fairy tale but hey, for the sake of fan service and lazy writing...

Yeah but why did Rhaegar and his dudes keep it secret? Why did high septon annul his first marriage in secret? Did his first wife even know about the annulment?

Maybe to keep Elia and the children "safe" ? I mean if everybody would have known about it right there the dornish would have been quite angry. Though not telling the north that Lyanna wasn't really abducted started the war to begin with. There is still something missing here, i don't think that the show will give us more though. The books might (they will come out, believe!)

Following your heart gets your house murdered. See Rob Stark.
Obviously Rhaegar didn't expect the continent to rally behind Robert in the way they did, so in highlight it looks really dumb. But remember the type of person Robert is. I don't see him backing down from what he sees as his rightful wife, regardless of her feelings on the matter.

A big part of Game of Thrones is that victory is written by the victors. And the victors paint the losers as villains, all who deserved death. If you watch the first couple seasons, there isn’t even a hint that Ned’s sister might have never been kidnapped.

Well, it was obvious that Cersei will betray everyone. It's interesting that they didn't keep the betrayal in secret for some time... Kind of missed opportunity for a plot twists there. Pretty obvious one, but still. LF's death was satisfying. Arya doesn't play around. Two targaryens are going to have a baby... Nothing new here, move along. If Tormund and Baric are dead, I will be really sad. They survived too much just to die in an avalanche... Especially Beric, what was his purpose in this series ? There must be a reason why he was kept alive for so long. If he is really dead, that would make him the most useless character I've ever seen... So far zero contribution to the plot.
I think that the Night King is the good guy here - he is leading the WW to their death. As we see more of him, it's pretty obvious that he knows what will happen in the future and how things will play out. I don't know, if he is future/past version of Bran, but for sure his purpose is not to destroy every living thing.

A large part of the appeal of the show is the many different threads and the possibility for anything to happen. As the threads are resolved, though, and the story comes to an end, these possibilities are fairly limited. This can definitely lend an air of predictability. It's a long, winding saga, but, now that the end is in sight, I feel there's a sense of "get on with it already".
I very much quote you - that's often a feeling one gets in long series / saga

If you want Shakespeare, go see Shakespeare. No "bad writing" to criticize and hopefully you can take it seriously. Ridiculous comparison, sure it's never been Shakespeare but the writing has been getting steadily worse since the introduction of the Sand Snakes and dwindling book material. Oooh what a surprise! When the whole thing is not written by a world class fantasy writer over 5 years per season / book, the quality of the writing is not as stellar. Really I expected tv writer to do as good as a job as Martin.
A. It's still effing good for television. B. It has been several seasons they had to move past the source material and I've been reading about how the show was steadily declining and everything was so shit every single episode since. If people don't like it anymore, they find a show they like and post in its thread instead of filling this thread that is supposed to be nice with toxic negativity about how it's so shit and laughable episode after episode after episode after episode. It's fucking annoying.

In before: But my complaints are valid criticisms.
Seriously, I'll make fun of the sillier parts of the show, but I do it in a way that isn't completely negative. There is a way to critique a show without simply shitting on it.

I imagine the latest season was a mix of stuff that GRRM laid out to the writers/ the writers got approved by GRRM though.
|
A lot of this stuff was set up by GRRM, though the final details might be far more complicated and protracted than the series deals with. Most of the people my wife and I know who like that show really wanted it to get moving a couple of seasons ago. Season 5 was a real chore for most fans, with the exception of Hardhome.

If Cat knows the truth she wont hate Jon and if she does not hate Jon anyone who is paying attention would know that something was up based on who she is. The last thing he wants is people asking questions so instead he decided to take the safest approach and tell no one at all.

If I were willing to place a bet I would not rule out the possibility that Tyrion told Cersei to just lie and say she would do everything she did. Tyrion knows the real war is in the North and also probably believes that they can easily take back the 7 kingdoms after.
|
I believe that Ned always planned on telling Kat about Jon after he was fully grown and with the Night’s Watch. But those plans were cut short, which is sort of the theme of the show.

A+++++ episode
had been complaining about teleportation and other bad writing but this episode redeemed everything
wolfpack taking down little finger wincest bron + tyrion dialogue cleganebowl teaser AND SO MUCH MORE
yeah littlefinger became dumb after the plot advanced past the books but oh well

I just watched the "making of" the episode and my only comment is.. what kind of accent does Podrick has in real life ??
