I don't think anybody knows how big Westeros should be at this point. And the writers don't care at all. Book Westeros is supposed to be roughly the size of South America. However, Martin has said that he would've made a lot of dimensions smaller if he knew then what he knows now. This is especially true with regards to how tall and long the wall is but the rest of the continent would follow if he made the wall shorter.
If the tv show-westeros was consistently smaller than the book-westeros that'd be fair, but it seems like season 7 westeros is smaller than season 1-6 westeros and that makes less sense. It's also totally fair that they stopped showing people travelling, fast travel is one of many things that makes skyrim more enjoyable than morrowind, but time is still supposed to pass.
(not really directed towards you) - It's just not good writing and it's annoying because the first 6 seasons, to my knowledge, is impressively free of stupid discrepancies. To me, that's been part of why I've considered it such a great show. It's only part of the reason, and I'm still able to enjoy it because of the characters and the dialogue and the well crafted action scenes, but I feel like they could have done a much better job with this particular narrative arc.

Yeah, they can clean up that rescuer in a single line. Especially if they were out there for a while. In another season, they could have spent an episode together, but that isn’t the show right now.
The teleportation got even WORSE in this episode. how is dany supposed to ride a dragon that fast without falling off or freezing to death or running out of oxygen? nah uh. no way.
and the writing has made tyrion looked an idiot, and dany even scolded him. and then they are making arya into a little monster.
and jon also comes off as an idiot. first in battle of bastards where he runs to save rikkon and gets himself cut off. and now with his piss poor planning in his zombie capture scheme that got everyone surrounded and trapped. and then he falls into the ice water and should've gotten hypothermia but then benjen saves his ass last second.
Its interesting that even the writers know what they write is pretty far fetched.
They can build an icelake large enough for a hundred people but not double check if the writing makes sense.
The third one shows how they approach this: 'At a certain point you have to find the army of the dead. We were thinking how can you possibly survive, that was the hardest for us.' That's how they came up with ice island and Dany airsupport. As an afterthought.
Still awesome to see how much effort goes into these action scenes. The flaming bear head was hilarious. They put so much work in it, and it shows I greatly enjoyed those scenes if you ignore the storylines.
It is also: How do we fix the logistical problem created by GRRM: The army of the dead is behind the wall. No one does to the wall. The world need to fight the army of the dead, but we have also spend 6 seasons with people doubting it was real. And everyone is way to busy fighting over kings landing while the dragons seem pretty unstoppable.
It is the tension problem created by the dragons. They are god like and unstoppable, draining the drama out of the show. They need to get the plot to the wall and on the nightking, even though the entire show has had it on the back burner. And they also need to make show that the Dragons are the instant solution to the white walkers.

The Night King was probably waiting for this to happen so they could get a dragon. It's reasonable to assume he has similar powers to Bran given how they've interacted.
The only parts I disliked were the hound starting a random fight to get them all killed, and Jon not getting on the damn dragon. I can only assume he was tempted to rush at the Night King to kill him and end this all, but... I mean come on, that was clearly not gonna happen.
werent dragons much more common in ages past but still the undead made everyone build a giant ass wall of ice to try to keep them in check....
So obviously dragons never were a solution to white walkers.
also it seems a simple ballista can stop a dragon as well, with a bit of time kings landing can have hidden ballistas all over the place, enough to make 2 dragons not want to come.
12 at the start. The three redshirts where down, the 'dog' was afraid, the priest was getting mauled and one tried one single swing with the axe. 6 guys do nothing for 30 seconds.
yeah the previous battle showed that dragons were far from invincible vs humans also.. One scorpion injured one of them, shouldn't actually be too much of a problem to build 100. In open warfare and with dothraki support then obviously no land army can match them, but it's not a given that attacking king's landing with two dragons would even really work.

Martin clearly cares a lot about internal consistency and logic. It's why he keeps rewriting chapters and is unable to finish the books. The showrunners don't care. They have a list of Martin's bullet points (thanks to whoever made this joke here) about how the series is planned to end. They're using Hollywood magic to get there, logic be damned.
The earlier seasons had internal consistency because they largely followed the books. The farther from the books they get, the more Hollywood magic they have to use to get to Martin's bullet points. It just shows how difficult it is to get from what Martin wrote so far to his planned ending in a logical manner.

Would be cool if someone who's supposed to be smart (e.g. Tyrion) told Dany in the next episode that it's unwise to fly straight into a scorpion or stay still when riding a dragon because it makes her (and the dragon) an easy target. It could be used to show the audience that Dany is only learning how to properly use dragons in combat, and that when/if she attacks King's Landing, she'll know how to deal with dozens of scorpions.
Aren't starks supposed to have kinda the same relationship to cold that targaryans have with fire? Not full immunity like daenerys I guess, but I thought they were supposed to have pretty solid cold resistance. Jamie being saved after ep4 is weirder than jon surviving his tumble into the water, imo.
Ya 2 dragons being "vulnerable" is a load of cock imo. Theyre fucking DRAGONS. Idc how much scorpions u got turreted all over the city walls. Dragons are fucking dragons. Dont give me that shit that in all those 4-5 spear/javelins fired at the dragons, they were hit twice. For plot's sake, it makes sense. But in a purely logical standpoint it is VERY UNLIKELY. Id be giving the odds of a projectile hitting a dragon (flying at full speed/ridden by a competent Dany) 1:200. And I think thats being generous.
They better develop Dany to be a god at battling with dragons now. She earned enough experience to fly her dragons at full potential like her ancestors. We spent the entirety of the previous seasons anticipating the dragons as the ultimate war machine. Suddenly therye in Westeros and the writers are downplaying the dragons as much as possible: "I am master alchemist and engineer Qyburn, I will make these ballistas that will trivial our war with the dragons."
Also Im certain that Drogon got poisoned when hit by scorpion. Makes sense tbh. Also adds more generic shock value when its revealed, which is a on-going theme this season.
Edit: Uncle Benjen with his fire flail thingy was cool af though. I still enjoy the visuals and concepts that the show produces.

Well, there is this theory, that Bran is actually the Night King. I hope he's not though. I'm not a fan of time travel paradoxes, even though the whole Hodor name thing was a pretty good storyline.
Btw few things hype me as much as the previews for the next episode (no comment on the details, just in general music and cuts are very well done)
p.s. I think Lena Headey was one of the best casting choice of the series to play Cersei
A tad sad that the next one will be the last episode for this year. A critique I have is that so few episodes (just 7) feel *very short*, I have the impression season 7 just started, and it's done. I wonder if with HBO's budged and means it would not have been possible to have the 2 final seasons with a few more episodes each (the material to develop is there for sure) - did they state why the choice of 7 episodes? (I see that episodes this season are definitely more expensive and "big" in terms of production than the first series, that's for sure)
