Her storyline in book 2 did drag on big time though and it shows on TV too.
Agreed. Book 3 is a really good book for Dany. Book 2 was rather slow for her, though the chapter where she goes through the house of the undying is one of the best chapters in the entire series imo.
Also, in relation to a few posts above, the actor who plays Tywin is absolutely fantastic.

Every week I read reviews from people who did not read the book, and every week I read something along the lines of "..and Dany will have to be integrated into the main plot soon." or something like that. Yeah. Not gonna happen. I think the critics won't like that.

Yes, in book 2 she was kinda boring, aside from the tower of the Warlocks, which im not sure they will put in, or if yes how detailed it will be

can someone explain this to me: if the red witch lady can shootout shadow assassins to clear the path for Stanis...why didnt she shoot out a couple more shadow assassins to kill the entire upper tier of the Lanister household too?

I think the fact that the disjointment from the other plots works well for the books but I imagine it will be bad for TV.
Does anyone notice how they troll the audience with Dany's storyline in the promos/trailers? Like in the most recent one they show her saying "[I want] the iron throne" and "The time to strike is now". There were other examples in previous trailers but I just find it funny that they are making people think that Dany will be in westeros soon but it's actually a long, long way off.

I think they get into that in the next episode but basically Stannis doesn't want to rely solely on witchcraft to win the throne because it would make him look weak/cowardly and he would lose the respect of his banner men. He would also not get the reverence for his Military Leadership, instead people would fear/revere Melisandre and make him look like a puppet King.

I believe that this is explained in the books by the fact that as more magic is used by Missendrei, the weaker Stannis becomes... Davos says he sees Stannis ageing 10 years in a short period.
The short of it is; Missendrei's magic is expensive and someone has to pay for it. Perhaps the show will explain it in a different way... they also didn't explain that the reason Davos took her under the castle is that Storm's End's magic walls prevent magical forces from entering... (but the storm drain does not? O_o)

Yea they messed up the interaction between Stannis and Renly. Renly has the upper hand in the books, but in the tv series it feels like Stannis is the one in control. It also makes Stannis seem more ruthless/evil rather than just.

It's not Lord of the Rings. In Westeros magic is more down to earth.

It's also said by Melisandre that the strain of it greatly taxes the person who's shadow is used. This is why in the 3rd book she tries to seduce Davos so as to not take the energy of a worn out Stannis any further.

Which is really odd still, because why doesn't she just sex up random commoners/soliders then?
May be a minor plot hole but such things happen when you get into convoluted magic!

Isn't the blood of kings (or something related to kings) a major driver in book 5 when it comes to magic? memory is a bit fuzzy atm.

weird episode.. the jeoffry scenes where good , the birth scene was really weird.. dany was ok , arya great as always.. and tyrion..what remains to be said about his baddasery.. tywin is also awesome

Melissandre needs the blood of a king in order to work her magic. It can't be just anyone, royal blood appears to be the catalyst

?? I thought it was pretty clear that Renly had far more numbers than Stannis and given the chance, would have crushed Stannis.
Also about the Melisandre not using her power more often, it is made quite apparent that the magic has a huge toll on Stannis.
Most (if not all) of the Red "God's" magic is in exchange for something and it will be far more clear later on.
