May be a minor plot hole but such things happen when you get into convoluted magic! Melissandre needs the blood of a king in order to work her magic. It can't be just anyone, royal blood appears to be the catalyst
That would make sense except Melisandre asked Davos to sleep with her to make more shadow babies so clearly that isn't it. Davos is hardly a king.
The "blood of a king" thing was to wake dragons, not make shadow babies.

just because melisandre says something doesn't make it true. she may say that stannis is azor ahai reborn blah blah blah but she has to know that he isn't, as a priestess of r'hllor she has to know that lightbringer isn't emitting any heat and that means it isn't the real lightbringer and stannis isn't really azor ahai. she has another agenda imo that is yet to be revealed, she isn't just there to save the world from the Others like she claims.

I think she just developed tunnel vision and honestly believes Stannis is Azor Ahai.
In A Dance with Dragons she constantly prays to see Azor Ahai in the flames hoping to see Stannis and sees only "snow", suggesting that she really does believe Stannis is Azor Ahai.

Maybe, but I don't think that she knows that Stannis isn't actually Azor. If yes she figured it out 'recently.' That may be why she didn't go with Stannis from the wall.
Anyways, that episode was fucking awesome! I loved every bit of it, except the ending. The end scene was really well done. Much better than I expected from the books. That doesnt change that it's a stupid scene and the worst part of the entire series, IMO.
I didnt think Joffrey's scene was that bad. It gives us more reason to hate him.
Arya's scenes are fucking incredible, and Tyrions too. Tyrion, every time, jesus christ. Each and every one of those scenes made me all giggity. Bron/him have a good back and forth.
God I love this show.
Ranom othershit: No peach. No Tickler? The Mountain isn't huge, just tall. 'The Pole' or somethin'. It wasn't super clear that Davos is missing his fingers. Wonder if they'll ever show his hand. Wonder if they'll show Stannis at +10 years old.

They showed Davos' fingers in the first or second episode where he's placing boats on the big map table.

The Tickler was there, he just wasn't named. They changed his wording of the questions too, but it's definitely him.
And agreed. Arya and Tyrion scenes are great. By comparison however, when you ignore these you realise how lacking some scenes are. I don't think I've liked any of the Dany scenes yet, and a lot of the Stannis or Renly scenes are still more awkward than they should be.
ALSO GUYS: Where are the Reeds? Are there any sources about them not being in the show? Or vice versa? I'm actually a little worried given the preview for the next episode.
|
There are no Reeds, at least not this season. They have not been cast.

Stannis/Renly scenes being awkward are fine with me. After all, it IS a bit awkward for them to be brothers, yet having to fight over the crown. It boils down to older brother/younger brother trying to go around difficulties in the name of blood relation. It would be easier for them if they hated each other, like Gregor and Sandor, but it is made apparent that they hold some feelings for each other. Not love perhaps, but they definitely care.
Edit: And I never liked Daenerys, not in the books, not in the show. I have no problem with there being few/no scenes with her either.

They had to change the actor as Conan was tied in The Hobbit and some other show. The guy playing Gregor in this season is the one who played White Walker in s02e01. Just so you know.
|
No Reeds this season, unfortunately. I think they could make it work for this season, but I hope that they don't skip out on them entirely.
As for The Tickler... Yeah, there was SOMEONE doing the 'tickling' but he was never named. Arya then added Polliver and The Mountain to her prayer, but not The Tickler, so I assumed they combined Polliver and The Tickler into one.
As for Stannis/Davos. I'm not liking Stannis, really. I dont DISLIKE him but he's not as good as everyone else. He doesn't seem... I sort of pictured him like this guy: + Show Spoiler [big image] + EDIT: Oh god it's huge. Whatever, you'll know what it is and be able to make it smaller.
Like he's always got a stick in his ass. Just not doing it.
Davos is better but he seems sorta meh too. I assume I'll warm up to him. Notsomuch with Stannis though.
|
You can't warm to Stannis. In the books he was just as bland.
|
Well, no. I like Stannis. I meant warm up to the actor playing the character. I just dont feel like he fits.
Meanwhile, Tywin is cast PERFECTLY. Arya too. Tyrion maybe (he's a bit too attractive but watever).
Most charactesr, really, have a very nice fit.
|
The only thing I ever liked about Stannis was that he doesn't give a damn about all the bullshit and just says what he thinks. And I agree on Tywin, Charles Dance is one of my favorite actors of all time. It makes me sad that I know Tywin's fate already
|
Think of this of an opportunity. You will get to see how the inside of your favorite actor's colon looks! YAY!

damn Stannis is a hypocrite, keeps talking about law and shit but uses magic to kill off upper tier officer in Storm's End and Renly of course.
Also, he was bragging about not getting alliances then goes and ask favors from the NW. what a guy..
|
Renly's peach T_T Also I don't like the new mountain, he seems so skinny, at first I didn't even recognise that this was the mountain, I thought it was one of his henchmen but I heard that it was him when I watched the episode for the second time.

The blood of a king thing has yet to be proven a requisite for anything, perhaps it is required to make dragons, but she chose not burn the king beyond the wall and I believe she knew Jon sent Mance's son south if I recall correctly so either she does not intend to wake stone dragons or she was lying about king's blood holding more power than others and merely gained substantial power for other things - like reviving Jon, she had been seeing Jon in her fires a lot and maybe she knew she would need power to revive him soon. I personally think it will be something like what she did with Mance, she will give Jon a guise to keep him safe and explain herself to him later, I also wonder what the reason for saving Mance was and why he has chosen to go along with her plans.
One thing is certain, GRRM is a baller, and this next book will probably be mind blowingly epic.

? Where is it said that magic is against the law of anywhere? And bragging about not getting alliances? I don't know where you got that from either.

It's been a while since i read Clash of kings but, from what i remember Stannis didn't know how exactly Melissandre did what she did, or rather he chose not to know since i do think he has some assumptions magic and "foul play" was involved. In other words he turned a blind eye to it. Someone correct me if im wrong since my memory isn't what it used to be.

I wrote this a few pages ago but put it under a spoilers tag... don't know if anyone read it . Haha. Reposting.
Wow starts off with Greywind fucking killing some poor guys. So good. The way they panned to Robb made me think that Robb was controlling Greywind. Which made me wonder about Robb and his warging abilities. I wonder if he had any of the wolf dreams.
Im glad they had Roose in it. I was already thinking about how they could do the show without him and thought in my head that they could but they can't without the Bastard of Bolton and Reek. Love how he even talked about flaying and how Robb just shot him down. Showed he has some bad blood in him right off the bat. He wasn't really soft spoken but I mean he has to be clearly audible for television. He sounded pretty good though and he had the eyes.
I liked the love interest of Robb. I don't know if its Jeyne Westerling but I don't think she's from Volantis. Probably just some commoner, which is fine because like someone else already pointed out, they just need a catalyst to start the Frey hostility.
Jofferey and the whores scene was overdoing it. I thought the acting was pretty bad. It seemed to me that it was setting up a follow up scene with Tyrion... but it just didn't come. Maybe next episode.
What was Baelish offering Renly? I really don't remember that at all. Baelish is not nearly as clever in the show as he is in the book and its kinda pising me off. That scene with Margery Tyrell was stupid, why would Littlefinger tell her he knows they're marriage is a sham. How does that benefit him? Imo it just puts his head on a possible chopping block. That final line that Margery delivered was so stupid too "My husband is my king and my king is my husband".
God this Catelyn... I want her to die as much as I did in the books. The actress is really nailing the grieving Mom role. I guess if you can do that you got Catelyn down. That one line she threw out during the Stannis/Renly scene was painful, which goes to...
Biggest disappointment of the episode goes too... dun da da da... Renly's peach! I thought it was great symbolism by GRRM and I thought it would have applied to TV as well. To be eating a peach and being cheeky with your brother at a war summit really shows that they are the knights of summer. It also does a great job haunting Stannis after he uses sorcery to kill him.
Lancel/Tyrion scene was great, just like all of Dinklage's scenes. I could really see him getting another Emmy nod. He just owns the screen every time he's on it.
The last few Davos scenes were the best of the episode for the book readers imo. They were pretty close to what happened and the actors nailed the parts. Melisandre birth was the cherry on top of a great episode. It looked great. Anyone notice the gem glowing at her throat? First scene I noticed it in. I loved the score leading into the credits.
