Well, I ended up seeing it. It surprised me. Everything it does, it gets it right. A lot more thought went into this movie than I initially expected. Its funny, its serious, but most of all...they pull it off. It's realistic in a certain way...you just buy into it. Like Star Trek, where all this shits going on everywhere and its all kick ass (ahaha, didnt notice i did that till i read over it again) but at the same time the crew is becoming a family and it pulls a lot of stuff together and gets it all right. Kick Ass is a serious movie about superheroes in the vein of Spiderman but pulls it off in a slightly Satirical way. Like the Cowboy Bebop episode where there is the alien life-form on the ship, and its...+ Show Spoiler + the food spike left in the fridge and forgot about TL;DR: I recommend it. It's better than good. | ||

Most of the action is predictable aswell. And what the FUCK is it with holywood: why does every young actress these days have to be a gorgeous chick which is, aswell, a whore? Not a whore to the letter, but if you've seen the movie, you'll get my drift. Again, what the FUCK? Give it 2/10 just because of the ammount of money put into the movie. Do not want PS After reading what most people posted about the movie, one has to ask himself: Why do you people even watch movies? Comedy, violence, action? You can get that stuff in any other movie... It's the same as saying a new game that came out is "fucking amazing" just because it has "new shiny graphics" and disregarding the fact that it's an un-playbale piece of shit with no story what so ever. I don't understand... And yes, you are entitled to your opinions, and i respect that. I would expect most people to like the movie here as most do around me IRL but i still can't hold back and not post my opinion aswell. Which i have IRL aswell. Critical thinking people! Do it!  | ||

At least the violence was done very tongue in cheek in a comedic way, instead of the usual Hollywood badass kill everyone kind of way. And there's nothing wrong with "whores", girls are just as horny as guys. What's wrong with that? Everyone bonks (including your parents lolyuck). Dunno why there's such a stigma attached to sex and in media. | ||

And i fail at seeing how someone who has watched a gazillion movies in his life (me and probably all of you included) doesn't look at movies that way. Because, hey, you've seen it before! You think people don't understand you and you don't even try to understand our response which are just as legit. Your post basically: TL;DR: I'm old and see things seriously which you are not able to do therefore Kick Ass sucks for me. Well, it's ok as it also implies that if you're young and just wanna watch movies for fun then Kick Ass rocks for you. Most of us are still young .... at heart here. You underestimate that we can watch things seriously... you should check out our threads on TL... but we don't wanna stress ourselves and be serious for movies.... we have serious real life work to do rather than be a movie critic... so movie is where we unwind. And that is where you should look at how we look at things rather than claiming nobody understands or is able to look at how you look at things. | ||

Take Alien for example. When you break it down (you have to break it down a lot...) you get the recipe for any other horror film ever made. What I love about Alien is the menacing monster, the sci-fi setting, the eeriness of the space ships etc. That's what sets it apart from other horror films. It's the same in Kick-Ass, for me the characters were interesting, the sound track fitted well, the jokes were funny, and the action was FUCK YEAH. The whole feel of the film sat well with me. My point is, all films are to some extent and predictable, the guy gets the girl, there's a dilemma in the plot that has to be solved and in the end it's resolved, the baddies get their comeuppance and so on. You can dis-like a film because the jokes are terrible and the action is boring or the characters sucked, but I don't see how anyone can dis-like a film because they've seen it all before. If I want a deeper meaning to my films and complex metaphors, I'm not going to watch Kick-Ass, I'm going to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey or The Darjeeling Limited. I watch Kick-Ass because it's fun and the whole idea of DIY superheroes is HILARIOUS. I did not watch kick-ass for indepth story and grammy level acting. I watched kick-ass to be entertained. You don't go into a movie like Kick-Ass and expect an award winning drama that has really indepth acting and characterization. A movie where every little action links together into an amazing finale at the end of the story. No...dude you go to Kick-Ass to laugh at mindless crap. I can turn my focus on and off. Sometimes I just want to relax and such instead of trying to wrap my mind around a complex story. Doing the whole complex thing is fun on occasion but sometimes you just don't want to do it. Seriously going into Kick-Ass for an in-depth story is like going to Transformers 2 for the romance. | ||
