Dave Lizewski, a comic-book fanboy, decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name -- Kick-Ass -- assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There's only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers. His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl and her father, Big Daddy.
Has anyone else seen this movie? I saw it last night and I thought it was AWESOME. I haven't read the comics, so I walked in not expecting much, and walked out satisfied. The movie is action packed with a mix of comedy and little romance. The ending leaves a potential sequel.
Ha, I went to see this with my girlfriend who was expecting a light hearted comedy; it really shocked me how violent this got, but I loved it. It was a just shame that she ended up not sleeping for a couple days

Well the MPAA is Rated R (R for strong brutal violence throughout, pervasive language, sexual content, nudity and some drug use - some involving children.) lol.
Man I thought this was a fantastic movie. One of the best i've seen this year. I haven't had a chance to read the comics or anything but I'm definitely picking up a few next time i'm by the local comic store.
I'm sure the comic series is getting more popular because of this movie. Oh, we all know what is going to be this year's most popular Halloween costume (definitely Hit-Girl's).
Violence? Not more than in your average tom-and-jerry cartoon. Of course its played by real actors, but it's definately in comic style. It was ok, but don't expect more than a nice pop-corn flick

I've been trying to organize a group outing to see this movie with my friends for a few weeks now. Thanks to this thread I have some proof that its good so maybe it will finally work out!
This is an awesome film. The actions scenes were completely over the top and therefore brilliant. It was pretty funny too. Empire gave it 5 stars though, wtf. And as is the trend in most films, the advert completely misrepresented the feel of the film and the type of comedy. The appeal of the comedy was that it was pretty broad.
In Britain this was given a 15 certificate which surprised me, the word cunt is used and the violence is completely excessive, lol. Like people getting their limbs sliced off and knives penetrating into people's chests and stuff.
just saw it movie was pretty fucking awesome. i walked in thinking it was a movie about dorks getting their asses kicked by random bullies. the drughouse scene opened my eyes lol
Saw it and loved it. So many awesome scenes throughout the movie. Especially the early scene with the kid and her dad out trying his gun had me rofling like mad.
I feel like the movie defeated the purpose of the comic towards the end. The movie was fun, but they really drifted away from the 'what would happen in real life?' question that the book was based around. Like, a jetpack, seriously?
didnt read comics but didnt the whole movie moved away from the "what would happen in real life", considering they have an 11 year old mass murdering armed gunmans like her names rambo

i thought the jetpack was great lol
this was based on a comic book series what do you expect if it was what would happen in real life, he would have died after getting stabbed and hit by a car
Yeah, I watched it. Awesome. So awesome. So awesome that a large black henchmen dude went back for the bazooka because an 11 year old girl is waiting behind a counter round the corner.

not necessarily. People survive stab wounds and being hit by cars. Though, in the comic he had to go through rehabilitation and there was a lot of time that passed and whatnot.

It really irritates me when people go into a movie determined to belittle and not enjoy it so they can feel intellectually superior to everyone who did.

So you're comparing your knowledge from a trailer to those of the people who actually saw the movie and you believe you have leverage when you question why they would like such a movie? Absurd.

There are many, many things you can judge by watching a trailer. It doesnt matter if the script is brilliant, i personally wouldnt sit and watch this movie for $100 bucks let alone pay to. I find it to be extremely condescending and typical of this era of American entertainment. Its stuff like this that makes the movie "Idiocracy" seem more and more prophetic. But of course, this kind of opinion of the movie will be the extreme minority, and it will make a ton of money. Just like American Idol and the Backstreet Boys. Or Nickelback.

I find it hard to believe that that you would turn down $100 to watch this movie.
And I don't know why you're comparing this movie to American Idol, Backstreet Boys or Nickelback.
The reason I liked this film was because it was different to other action movies. I absolutely HATED Spiderman series, Transformers 1 and 2 and X-Men. Your generalizations make no sense...
My friends and I liked the movie. It was definitely entertaining and had a few good laughs if you don't take it too seriously. I would recommend it over most of the other movies that have come out the last few years.

So what do you look for in a film apart from a brilliant script? You want a film to have a brilliant script PLUS something else, apparently. Or a brilliant script but WITHOUT certain attributes?
I don't know how someone not wanting to see a film based on a trailer despite the film being praised relates to this era of American entertainment. I'm sure a lot of people who enjoyed this film watch a wide range of films. I know that a lot of people have a varying taste in films judging by the other film threads I've seen here.
And I'd definitely accept $100 for what would possibly be a maximum of 3 hours work including travelling to and from the cinema.
Holy shit that movie was awesome. I have no idea how they could do a sequel, unless the black cop becomes a superhero as well. A whole movie with just David and Mindy seems like it would be pretty weird, and the kid from superbad doesn't seem like he would be any good as an actual villain.
Saw it earlier tonight. Like most people, I came in not expecting much but was pleasantly suprised. Had a good bit of humor, nice action sequences, good dose of violence. All around fucking great.
Just came back from the cinema. Was really good, and easily one of the better superhero movies made. Also GREAT fucking soundtrack! Especially the Sunshine track, about time somebody decided to use that in a different movie.
And for the people who watched the trailer and think theyre in any position to say whether or not this movie is any good... You can't possibly have an opinion about something if youve only seen 1% of it. Watch the entire movie as a whole, and untill then, your opinion is 100% worthless. If you're no fan of a particular genre then fine, but id say you should still be able to recognize a good movie when you see it.
AMAZING MOVIE. I saw it Saturday with a friend of mine. Very witty and very entertaining.
Anyone who thinks they can judge a movie based off of its trailer is an idiot. For instance, Ckash of the Titans.
(SPOILER) Good movie overall, but the ending sucked so hard. The trailer has you expecting the final battle with the kracken to be amazing, buuuuuuuuuuuut....... you get what I mean.
Anyways, for those of you who have seen the trailer, there IS a second trailer, the Rated-R trailer. This one is the trailer that convinced me that I would LOVE this movie. Just type in "Kick Ass rated R trailer" on Youtube. It'll be the second or third down the page and 2:48 min long. GG, enjoy. :D
Haven't seen it yet. I have started reading the comic book which is awesome. I recommend it.
"Galactus as a dust cloud? C'mon man. That costume was classic. People would've pissed themselves if they'd seen him on the Baxter's Building in that big purple helmet."
"Yeah, pissed themselves LAUGHING. What works on the page doesn't always work on the screen, asshole. Case in point; Peter Parker's web shooters."
"Oh yeah. High school nerds develops miracle webs even scientists in real life can't create. Go fuck yourself, Toddie. People would have walked out of the theater."
"Man, I still can't believe how good Whedon's X-men is. This stuff makes Buffy look like shit... And I say that as the world's numero uno Buffy maniac."
Hahaha. That's like a conversation taken right out of my own life.

it was pretty damn good, not something i would watch multiple times in theater but definitely an awesome film to watch with friends or in my case GF who hated it.
I gotta say, I completely loved this movie. I would say this is my favorite super hero movie of all time. I don't post often but when I saw people bashing this movie I had to say something. Hit Girl is my new favorite super hero haha. The film combined some terrific comedy with a lot of great action. Twice during the movie I looked at my buddy sitting next to me and we were both incredibly impressed.
If you weren't into other comic-based movies, I would still go see this one. The comic book and script were actually developed together, for the record, so it's really not "comic-based" like Spiderman or X-Men, as the comic was developed with the movie in mind.
Plus, an 11 year old kicking the asses of a ton of grown men has never been so entertaining.
The movie was sick.... It was extremely funny and very suspenseful. Its a must see for anyone that likes to laugh and likes some kick ass action.. or for anyone who likes to watch 11yo's kick ass.. either way i laughed my ass off and really enjoyed it! go seee eeettt if you havent
Just watched this movie, and i must say this is one of the best movies i've ever seen, even up there with Avatar. Even though i had a few parts spoiled (yay working at movie theater) i still enjoyed every part of it. Highly recommend watching this movie if you haven't already.
Movie wasn't oscar award-winning, but it was hella entertaining. Definitely thumbs up to go see it, just don't expect your mind to be blown - just expect a fun movie.

So you wouldn't sit on your ass for 1 hours and 57 minutes for 100 dollars.
Way to show that you're a retarded little kid with no idea about the value of money.
And please, enlighten us about how much you can find out about a 2 hour movie from a 2 minute trailer.
I'd personally have a hard time summarizing all the important plot points in 2 minutes, let alone give a significant understanding of the film.
Also, the trailer was completely misleading. My friend wanted to see it so I went but I wasn't really expecting much based off what I saw in the trailer but man I was wrong. Loved the movie.

You know what I can judge from your post?
That you have absolutely no idea what the hell you are talking about.
In this movie in particular the trailer was extremely misleading..much like Avatar no? Avatar's trailer showed what should have been an INCREDIBLE movie with an INCREDIBLE story and you got a high tech Pocahontas out of it.
I went into Kick-Ass expecting a medicore comedy that may or may not have been worth my money. What I got was a well spent two hours that had me laughing and completely amused throughout the movie. I would spend another eight dollars to watch this movie in a heartbeat. You have no right to judge a movie based on a trailer...ever...EVER. It's like judging a book by it's cover and you know what they say about that right?
I'd also bet money that if someone actually offered you 100 dollars to watch the shittiest movie ever made you would do it because it's 100 freaking dollars for at most 2 hours of your time.

Lollin at the simultaneous accusation of condescension and assumption of superiority going on in this post. God Idiocracy was so right, wasn't it? Next thing you know kids are going to be forgetting rules for apostrophes, not capitalizing when they should, and just sitting on the internet accusing others of talking like fags.
Kick-ass kicked ass. I expected it to be bad but enjoyable and it surprised me, I would watch it again without a second thought. Nicholas Cage's horrible acting went surprisingly well with the neurotic character they had him playing.
Great movie!!!! After the fiasco from the clash of titans, kick ass brings a smile to my face. I'd recommend to everyone looking for great entertaining.

You can't judge a movie by its trailer.
Exhibit A: Watchmen.
Fucking sweet trailer, goddamn terrible fucking movie. I was literally angry that I made myself sit through that retarded hunk of garbage, and that says something since I expected it to suck to begin with.
That being said, I saw Kick-Ass, and it was terrible. BELIEVE ME...I understand your distaste for movies like this, but you still have to SEE it before you judge it. Otherwise you're making baseless accusations because you haven't actually seen its flaws.
tldr: Correct analysis by chance since you haven't seen it.
edit: I could also gather that Kick-Ass was probably going to be a horrendous piece of shit, which it was, but note that I said "probably." Don't know until you've seen it. I've been surprised before.

"People are allowed their opinions"
That being said your opinion is wrong sir! Kick-Ass was AMAZING.
As fortunately most of the people in this thread, I highly recommend this movie. It's so not what you're expecting. I personally went with the mindset of seeing a comedy about superheroes, somewhat suitable for children, and instead I find refreshing ammounts of raw violence, blood and the most BAMF 11 year old girl who kills people with swords and guns!!! Seriously, a friend of mine said to me after we'd seen the movie, that they should make a tv series just starring that girl kicking ass, and I couldn't agree more. The movie could have lived just by her killing people, but the story is funny and interesting, and just adds to her awesomeness. Fucking see it! It's awesome!!!
When I saw previews for this, I thought "I'm never gonna see that."
Well, I ended up seeing it. It surprised me. Everything it does, it gets it right. A lot more thought went into this movie than I initially expected. Its funny, its serious, but most of all...they pull it off. It's realistic in a certain way...you just buy into it. Like Star Trek, where all this shits going on everywhere and its all kick ass (ahaha, didnt notice i did that till i read over it again) but at the same time the crew is becoming a family and it pulls a lot of stuff together and gets it all right. Kick Ass is a serious movie about superheroes in the vein of Spiderman but pulls it off in a slightly Satirical way. Like the Cowboy Bebop episode where there is the alien life-form on the ship, and its...+ Show Spoiler +
the food spike left in the fridge and forgot about
It makes fun of archetypes and still pulls the characters off and references the meta-shifts in society; the power of the internet to convey and message and relationships and other stuff I surely didn't notice my first time seeing it.
In my own opinion, the movie is bad and horrendously terrible. I was bored after the first 15 minutes. I knew every next step of each character. Too easy to predict. The story is just plain boring, too simple. Some of the characters are really shallow.
Most of the action is predictable aswell.
And what the FUCK is it with holywood: why does every young actress these days have to be a gorgeous chick which is, aswell, a whore? Not a whore to the letter, but if you've seen the movie, you'll get my drift. Again, what the FUCK?
Give it 2/10 just because of the ammount of money put into the movie. Do not want
PS After reading what most people posted about the movie, one has to ask himself: Why do you people even watch movies? Comedy, violence, action? You can get that stuff in any other movie... It's the same as saying a new game that came out is "fucking amazing" just because it has "new shiny graphics" and disregarding the fact that it's an un-playbale piece of shit with no story what so ever. Hate to break it to you little guy but girls these days like sex just as much as guys do. When girls are horny they often will just flat out tell you to fuck them into the mattress or whatever the case may be.
It seems to me that the people who hate Kick-Ass hate it because it's generic and hollywood. The people who love it think that Kick-Ass is different, has pleasant surprises and is not generic and hollywood. Weird.
At least the violence was done very tongue in cheek in a comedic way, instead of the usual Hollywood badass kill everyone kind of way.
And there's nothing wrong with "whores", girls are just as horny as guys. What's wrong with that? Everyone bonks (including your parents lolyuck). Dunno why there's such a stigma attached to sex and in media.
Well, judging me on the basis of a small intarwebz post really goes far to say what you people are capable of (i guess the ones who did critique me will get it). I didn't imply anywhere that i find you people less-fitting or whatever you might think. I just implied that, maybe, you should look at movies from a different point of view. But hey, as i said, you have your opinion, I have mine. Doesn't mean either of us is right.
All i wanted to point out is that there are people who look at a movie a lot more in-depth. And i fail at seeing how someone who has watched a gazillion movies in his life (me and probably all of you included) doesn't look at movies that way. Because, hey, you've seen it before! Go figure... In that sense this movie just blows. A lot. Sorry, IMHO.
Again, that's just me. Rather just disregard what i said if you feel like replying, probably won't be worth it.

You think people don't understand you and you don't even try to understand our response which are just as legit. Your post basically:
TL;DR: I'm old and see things seriously which you are not able to do therefore Kick Ass sucks for me.
Well, it's ok as it also implies that if you're young and just wanna watch movies for fun then Kick Ass rocks for you. Most of us are still young .... at heart here. You underestimate that we can watch things seriously... you should check out our threads on TL... but we don't wanna stress ourselves and be serious for movies.... we have serious real life work to do rather than be a movie critic... so movie is where we unwind. And that is where you should look at how we look at things rather than claiming nobody understands or is able to look at how you look at things.
Guys, if you think this film is cliché, or the story is predictable, or the characters are one-dimensional, or the main character was boring, then that's fine. Most films have a story, plot devices and characters that will have been VERY similar to those things in other films, probably lots of other films. It's all about the little things that set the films you like apart from the ones you don't like that make a good film.
Take Alien for example. When you break it down (you have to break it down a lot...) you get the recipe for any other horror film ever made. What I love about Alien is the menacing monster, the sci-fi setting, the eeriness of the space ships etc. That's what sets it apart from other horror films.
It's the same in Kick-Ass, for me the characters were interesting, the sound track fitted well, the jokes were funny, and the action was FUCK YEAH. The whole feel of the film sat well with me.
My point is, all films are to some extent and predictable, the guy gets the girl, there's a dilemma in the plot that has to be solved and in the end it's resolved, the baddies get their comeuppance and so on. You can dis-like a film because the jokes are terrible and the action is boring or the characters sucked, but I don't see how anyone can dis-like a film because they've seen it all before.
If I want a deeper meaning to my films and complex metaphors, I'm not going to watch Kick-Ass, I'm going to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey or The Darjeeling Limited. I watch Kick-Ass because it's fun and the whole idea of DIY superheroes is HILARIOUS.
Also, here's a really good article on what I was trying to articulate here, it mainly focuses on Avatar which I think is pretty relevant seeing as that film got slated for being too cliché:

lol what did you like/dislike? I liked it the whole way through, probably gonna see it a second time. I downloaded the comic (it's only 8 comics long, about 2 years old), it's pretty interesting to see how it's similar/different from the movie. He doesn't get the girl in the comic, when he says he's not gay she tells him to fuck off and has her boyfriend beat him up haha.

I did not watch kick-ass for indepth story and grammy level acting.
I watched kick-ass to be entertained.
You don't go into a movie like Kick-Ass and expect an award winning drama that has really indepth acting and characterization. A movie where every little action links together into an amazing finale at the end of the story.
No...dude you go to Kick-Ass to laugh at mindless crap. I can turn my focus on and off. Sometimes I just want to relax and such instead of trying to wrap my mind around a complex story. Doing the whole complex thing is fun on occasion but sometimes you just don't want to do it.
Seriously going into Kick-Ass for an in-depth story is like going to Transformers 2 for the romance.

So I hear some people saying it is the typical, comic-book style violence, and other people saying it is raw, gratuitous, shocking violence... which is it? Fairly sure I'll see it anyway, but kind of wanting to know what to expect, since this seems to be something a lot of people are mentioning...

WHAT?!
Hitgirl is the most AWESOME part of this movie.
Some mothers or something have protested about the movie because a 12 year old girl was violent and was using swear words, specifically "cunt".
I can't believe how many people are shit-talking this movie. Here I was thinking I was an up-my-own-ass arrogant, condescending douche and I come to this thread to find that everyone makes my antics look like child's play

And yes, you are entitled to your opinions, and i respect that. I would expect most people to like the movie here as most do around me IRL but i still can't hold back and not post my opinion aswell. Which i have IRL aswell.
Critical thinking people! Do it!
So if i am as smart as you I should hate the movie too correct?

So if a guy would behave like she does in the movie (assuming that I'm thinking of the same scene(s) as you were), it's ok? But since she's a girl, it's not?
I saw the movie today with my friends and girlfriend, and we all thought it was fun and entertaining. Totally worth the money!

I heard that the violence was bad so I went in expecting that, but it was hardly shocking at all. Watchmen, for example was way worse. There's some scenes where people are getting beaten up by a bunch of guys but that's about as bad as it gets. otherwise it's mostly people getting stabbed unexpectedly which is actually pretty funny.
Wow the title of the movie tells it all, this movie kicks ass, it was entertaining from beginning to the end and so funny, original plot, unrealistic but yet well done action scenes. One of the best movies I've seen and enjoyed since District 9
I actually checked Hit-Girl up on IMDB (or the actress that played her) because I thought she did a pretty good job in that movie despite her age. Apparantely she has done quite a few movies (around 10 or something), which was really impressive.
This movie was really weird, bizzare mix of comix, action, komedy, teenage bullshit hero movie. Because i watched couple of older movies before this one, it dissapointed me when i compared what movies were people capable of in the past and what we do now with all effects and technology. It seemed like one you would take your kids to the movie on... with violence in it. I would rate it 6/10. Maybe good for getting stoned and have fun how much of a bullshit it is.
When i saw the trailer, i figured it would have a lot more of the awkward humor that i loved so much. When i actually saw it, it didn't really as much as i thought, but i still liked it. It could be that i just really like action movies.

Kick-Ass was a great movie and oddly Post Modern at the same time. You should see it if you are any sort of junkie for amazing ridiculous things with explosions, and don't mind some type of idea/plot in the background. The movie is really well done and never drags.
For the record, I would vote that Avatar was really bad.

They were indeed pretty powerful.
Just got back from seeing it with my brother. Solid action movie with two different takes on the "Super"hero lifestyle. It started off as interesting for me, then more or less just became a very entertaining action movie towards the end. Both are good things to be.
I kind of wish that the movie was more of Big Daddy fucking people up, like + Show Spoiler +
in the warehouse.
That scene had the least physical fighting in pretty much the entire movie, yet was simultaneously the most bad-ass to me. I think it was how Cage carried himself throughout it, and that the camera wasn't spastic, unlike the majority of action sequences.
thought it would be terrible unfunny stupid crap when i first heard about it.. but it was actually quite good, had funny scenes, awesome action scenes and a decent plot
Started out excellent and declined into a predictable action movie about halfway through. Comic book style violence was meh. Still worth watching though.

Avatar was awful though.
Avatar was amazing, sucks watching at home tho.
Hi Tech Pocahontas doesn't do it for me sir.
How bout, good old, flat out, low tech pochahontas?
Saw this earlier today. Was amazing! Probably best movie I have seen so far this year. Kick-ass is kick ass. Was more violent and gritty than I had expected but it made it all the better.
I watched defendor before watching this... and map they're both so similar. > < Any does anybody remember a news story of a team of vigilanties in some city, mexico or rio d Janeiro fighting crime on the BBC a few years back?
pretty good, one of the better movies i've seen recently.
was this movie supposed to be a comedy? I think I laughed like once, but enjoyed it more as a.. i dont even know what it is. it's a good movie though! some scenes are just great.
I went to this with a bunch of friends expecting a so-so comedy. I was shocked by how good this movie ended up being for me. I would definitely recommend it, it was by far one of the better films that I have seen in quite some time.
The film essentially defined superheroes as being glorified murderers... ..is what I got from the film.
Seriously, there was no attempt to convey the psychological choices and moral hurdles that come with the idea of being a superhero. It was hinted at in a couple scenes, such as when the cop confronts Big Daddy at his headquarters. Point being, it was trying to be funny with completely unsuitable subject material. It just turns into an awkward mess of unnecessary murder and a ridiculously badly thrown together love comedy angle to boot.
If it was trying to be a comedy, why tackle such heavy material? They ended up just glossing over the serious stuff in order to put the spotlight on the funny, and that just made it come off as an extremely EXTREMELY shallow movie.
This is one of the best movies I've ever seen lol.
I don't know if people know this but actually there are people in real life just like Kick Ass who dress in superhero outfits and walk around cities helping people.
On April 19 2010 08:23 Pika Chu wrote: I've just seen the trailer... I can't believe so many here liked it.
I think this is wrong. The reason I liked this movie was because it was so unique. Its the complete opposite of most superhero movies. Its very unique kind of in a similar style to Kill Bill.
Also anyone who doesn't like the fact that all the movies nowadays the main guy gets the girl, maybe they would like the comic better, I heard that in the comic book, she gets mad angry at kick ass after he confesses to her and gets her real boyfriend to beat him up.
I honestly don't see why so many people liked this movie. The action scenes were shit. What the fuck gives Nicholas Cage the right to defile the Bat-costume. Kick Ass is to nerd boys what 500 Days of Summer is to teenybopper girls.
it was an alright movie, i just torrented it and enjoyed it while taking a break from SC2, wouldn't really recomend going to the movie to watch it but rent the dvd or watch it online, its a neat little movie in which a girl swears a lot

The movie isn't about sending a message or some deep moral point they're trying to make, it's about entertaining the audience with a completely nonsense story that's highly entertaining. Come on if you're gonna be critical about the movie then at least point out the jetpack with the 2 miniguns on the shoulder (which was hilarious btw). If you can't enjoy this movie you're probably a very bitter person.
I didn't find most of the jokes that funny, but the fight scenes were very well done (fake night vision notwithstanding). The idea of seeing how "superheroes" would fare in real life was pretty interesting. Unfortunately, they kinda abandoned this concept near the end of the movie to put in more action.
Overall, I guess it was enjoyable enough, but I don't think I would watch it again.
I enjoyed both the comic and the film, but I enjoyed the comic much more. To everyone that didn't like the movie, I'd recommend checking out the comics.
That being said, I enjoyed Kick-Ass primarily because of the emulation of the comic book story. They did change quite a bit, but the creators of the comic and the movie are the same I believe. The story does a great job of balancing comedy and ridiculous action scenes. I'd probably watch it again if it were at someone's house or something, but I would definitely read it all over again.
Just saw this movie my silly female flat mates were just completely shocked and angry about how brutal this movie was.
I didnt expect it to be this dark either but the movie truely does its title justice, I'm someone who is generally very rarely impressed by action scenes of any sort, the ones in this movie however were awesome, my god hit girl is badass
I hope the sequel which I'm sure is gonna come out eventually is gonna do this one justice. should be hard though.
Had this movie been as brutal as it should have been, Kick ass would have had tons of repetitive oh shit, stabbed, near death, hospital moments and i feel with Red Mist as he picks up his fathers legacy. It isnt easy being the villain.
Really hope he makes it work rather than simply become another comic book villain.

Wow the film definitely lacked subtitles that the comic book had. It was good overall but I was vastly disappointed. What's up with kickass getting the girl first of all? In the comic book you know what happens? Kickass confesses to the girl that he wasn't gay. The girl is not happy with this and she ends up dating this big black guy, and proceeds to send kickass pictures of her blowing him to piss him off. He's so pathetic that he ends up jerking off to the pictures!
Also in the comic, after the final showdown it-girl breaks down in tears and yells "Daddy!!". She's crestfallen. She reacts like a normal, vulnerable little girl and throws her arms around kickass for comfort.
I give the movie a 6.
ETA: I JUST remembered the ending. A JETPACK bro? A FUCKING JET PACK?

When I saw the trailer I expected this to mainly be a comedy, not a graphically violent action movie like that.
I mean teenagers and a 12 year old or sth playing the main role, trailer showing all the funny parts like the very beginning with the guy thinking he can fly, hitgirl and her dad going "youll be fiiine baby doll", the main dude "practicing" in front of the mirror. Kinda gives a very different impression. Surely its a different thing if youve read the comic but I mean I didnt even know there was one.
Movie was kickass just as the title says. If you can't bear the violence, don't watch. If you liked watchmen, you'll probably like this, in fact I think this movie is sliding past watchman on my personal charts.
One of my problems with the movie was the suspension of disbelief. Why would kick ass's girl's ex-boyfriend be a big black guy if she seemed so sweet as if Hollywood toned her down into a nice (though sex freak) girl. The other weird part was when big daddy was yelling while on fire. Hehe what he said was hilarious if you read it.
Anyways, these parts were weird. If you're still iffy: Do you like stereotypical superhero movies:eg dark knight, superman, hancock, spiderman? your answer here doesn't matter Do you like nonstereotypical superhero movies:eg watchmen? yes, then go watch it no then don't
edit: f**k it, go watch it even if you didn't like watchman's blue dick. I was smiling all the way through this one.

I have no idea who you're referring to here Scarecrow . But honestly, I swear I hated Avatar not because I have pretensions to intellectual superiority (concerning yourself), but rather because it didn't appeal to my taste. I agree however that I can be very condescending in the way I express my movie opinions. I'm slowly seeing the light that movies designed as entertainment should not be compared to movies designed as art. It is as dumb as comparing rock/rnb/hip-hop/metal/rap/punk with classical. As this poor soul has yet to discover: My Taste in Music is Superior To Yours

What if you liked Dark Knight but hated Spiderman? What if you liked Terminator 4 and Die Hard 4 and the latest Indiana Jones (none of these were as good as their originals though) but despise Watchmen? And lastly what if I loved District 9 but thought Avatar was an over-hyped piece of garbage?
My point is that taste in action movies is as subjective as taste in comedy. You can't say "this film was more artistic in it's production or plot so therefore it's better" when the main aim of a lot of these films is to be entertaining not pieces of Art. This is coming from a reformed snob
I thought this movie was total trash. It's basically just a painfully predictable 2 hour long montage of people getting stabbed and shot in the face. The jokes aren't funny, the acting is bad, the plot is SOOOOOOOO predictable.
Basically if you want to watch 2 hours of escalating stylized violence set to poppy music I guess you'll enjoy it. The entire movie really is just an escalation of violence, starting with fist-fights, then fighting with sticks, then stabbings, then people getting shot in the face for a good 45 minutes, finishing up with a chain-gun mounted jetpack and a bazooka.
Take away the fight scenes and you have like 10 minutes of insanely unoriginal dialogue and storyline.
edit-
Just for the record, I have no problem with violence. I've seen many amazing movies that are far more graphically violent than this. I just don't think you can make a good movie out of absolutely nothing but people getting shot in the head, stabbed, set on fire, and beaten with bats. There needs to be some kind of decent acting or story to accompany it.

Didn't liked it at all. Main character was poor and hella lame, which basically ruined the whole movie (not to mention the Red Mist character.. wtf was that ?!). Thank you Nicolas Cage for being there and doing a good job and saving me from vomiting.
