I'm pretty sure it's hidden MMR. There is only one way to check out what level you are at, and it's a pain in the ass. You have to find one of your games through the Watch Games, Not live section and go under advanced and sift through High, Medium, or Low level games category. Find which one your game pops up under, that will let you know where you stand. Best bet would be to play a game immediately, then look since it would be near-impossible to find an older one, unless I'm missing something

You can search your name and then add High, Medium, or Low as an additional filter.

I understand it gives +20 cheap damage and lifesteal, and makes you be able to take a the Aura Damage creep. But it always gives 0 hp and Attack speed( which drow needs considering her aura and ult already give a ton of damage) I think getting the quicker Manta Style up is more worth it in teamfights and farming. Yes HOTD gives you lifesteal making foresting easier but Drow should not be farming the jungle. She should be in the lane farming where you should not be taking damage, especially if you are ranged. What about stacking ancients? What about the armor? What about the actual survivability that comes with being able to hit people really, really hard and lifesteal that back (Zhou!)? What about the fact that having Trueshot Aura at 4 is going to push the lane (though this is easily mitigatable) and you can't be static farming? The items you get depend on the situation at hand. For most cases, I even disagree with finishing Manta first--Yasha BKB, Helm BKB, Helm Yasha BKB, Yasha Helm BKB... Basically, BKB. Then Manta.
Why would waste time stacking ancients with Drow. She has no cleave and will die to a ancient stack even with HOTD. You don't start lifestealing enough back to live till you get another core item(IE MANTA OR ANY OTHER DMG ITEM) Trueshot aura will push the lane by an inch honestly. If you know how to farm free correctly, you only need 1 attack per creep. if you are attacking more then once you are going to push it anyway. Also if you are picking drow it is because you have Venge and Bm and are getting more auras to compensate and HELP push. But on the BKB before manta is fine also. It depends on farm and heros on each side.

Sounds like he wants the HoN command where if you hit hold then it stops autoattacking, but autoattacks once the hold position command is off
This isn't available in Dota2, you can either turn autoattack off completely or turn it on as default.

What should an absolute newbie like myself do to survive the first 10-20 games with minimal flaming in this game? I'll be firing it up for the first time tonight. I've played a ton of sc2 but never touched dota.
|
just start playing, pick the never played option when you are prompted to, and just tell your allies when you first start that your new to the game, that will reduce flame drastically and hopefully someone will help you out
|
Worst comes to worse, you can mute people in the player score screen. Its the little microphone next to their name. Makes learning much easier.

Play against bots to get a feel of the mechanics/map, then play versus people to learn the game. I'd recommend playing Lich as a support, strong hero and easy to play (basically infinite mana, strong harass spell, strong teamfight ultimate). Feel free to check playdota.com out for guides.

I have played 100 games against bots before going to match making still lost the first 10 (pubs) in a pitful way, nowadays i get that agi hard carry and carry the whole team xD u actually have to play and unlike LoL those bots are smart, btw train only last hiting, if u can last hit a lot u will be good in no time ...

Minimal flaming? Best way is to just play a simple support (Lich, Necrolyte, Crystal Maiden) and go in a lane with someone else. Buy a courier, buy wards, buy regen+stats, make sure you go with your teammate to place the ward. If you get ganked at level 1 placing a ward, it'll start off bad and you might get flamed already.
Just try to be nice and blend in with what your lanebuddy is doing, if he's the carry try to leave him the last hits, actively try to deny your own creeps. Even if you miss them A) your at least trying and getting used to it & B) Your creeps die faster and push to your side. If you're in a lane which needs pulling, (I.E. Dire -->Top or Radiant -->Bottom lane, make sure you play a few practice games with bots so you can get pulling down pat).
Talking less is better, more often than not. Just have fun with your lane partner, and if you guys are getting beaten baddly, call for ganks from middle or something. If you get flamed best response would just be "Sorry" and don't react and instigate more flaming. Just take the high road. That being said, there are people who enjoy ruining everybody's experience, so make sure to mute them. F4 --> Little Audio clip under the name mutes.
If you're not in a lane with a carry, just make sure not to mess up each others last hits so nobody gets the money. That's about the worst thing that can happen. I'd recommend buying boots as fast as you can or asking your lanemate to give you some hits for boots. Can't go wrong with them for a support past the early early phase -- after that, make sure to carry tps. If someone is getting ganked and you think you can reverse it, try to TP and give it a try. Even if it fails (more enemies were hiding and you didn't see), you're building map awareness skills and learning to TP. You win in every aspect. I hope that helps, good luck and have fun!

Awesome thanks - so much to take in... Looking at those guides now. I'll definitely go support and just stay with someone.
I'm not sure what is meant by last hits etc and how that is a bad thing?
|
Last hitting is killing a creep with a single attack. Let the other creeps beat it down until you only need a single hit to kill it. Better last hitting will give you a couple benefits. First, the lane won't push as much. Second, you'll get far more creep kills than you would if ytou just autoattacked. Third, you'll be moving around and harder to hit by the other heroes. Fourth, you'll be able to deny your creeps as well.
Last hitting is a very, very good thing. Make sure to do it whenever possible.
