hi! after finding a lot of gear with my DH i decided to roll a monk instead of selling everything. i just hit lvl 60 and walked through act 1 inferno. this is my character:
http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/zuqbu-2361/hero/10509081
everything except for inna's temperance is self found, i know a lot of slots could be upgraded. but before i spend anything i would be very grateful for advice.
the hellfire ring he has equipped is my only one so far, because although my DH is roflstomping low level content at insane speed she's struggling at everything higher than MP2. as soon as i need to kite my effective dps go down very quickly and i'm dying a lot.
what i would like my monk to do, is keyfarming and killing ubers at a reasonably high monster power. MP5 would be a sweet spot, being able to solo ubers at MP5 would be perfect. what i don't need is another low MP alkaizer speed running, item farming char – my DH is fitting that role quite nicely.
with that goal in mind, how much gold do i need to spend where and on which stats? i would prefer to keep the budget as low as possible, but if i need to spend a few millions here and there so be it. i can also swap some gear with my DH http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/zuqbu-2361/hero/56830, i'm thinking maybe the vile wards and 2 piece natalya's (ring+boots?) for the crit bonus.
additionally i have no idea about monk builds and skills, is there some sort of optimal setup for hunting keys and ubers? thank you all in advance!

Well first of all, pick one resist, you have mixed cold/arcane/lightning which doesn't do anything (although you say it's self-found so I understand, but you should fix that at least)
As far as skills go, the most common setup is probably http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#aSgXYk!aXU!acYbca if you're not speedrunning alkaizers, can always switch to Hard Target (or Time of Need) for Mantra if you have problem surviving on your current mp
Then obviously it's a matter of opinion, personally I'd say you should always go Echoing Fury + some fast hitting rare weapon with good LS/LoH, or get a pair of Shenlong's set fists, or if you want to be really boring get some imba Skorn (will boost your dps like crazy for very little gold, but it's boring as fuck to me, suit yourself)
Balance Armor/Res/HP as you want, I'd say getting 40k hp would be wise, any more than that might as well be put into the other two. 4 set Inna's is incredibly helpful for time efficiency, but I see you already got that covered (plus baby blue = kawaii), other than that just dex/trifecta it up as best you can ^^
Disclaimer: I actually haven't played that much lately, so if there's been some huge meta switch I might not be aware of it. Also if you ever change your mind and want to do some speedleveling, I'd recommend going with this: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#aceYSQ!ZcU!aZZccZ

thank you so far! i switched out some items for relatively cheap (bnet profile isn't updated yet) and i am now at ~660 AR, 4800 armor and 36k life. i have not invested in any kind of weapon yet, what about a 1h + shield combo? how much dps should i shoot for?
|
I always shield up when I run anything over MP5. It just makes your survivability that much higher. Shields are exceptionally cheap with as many stats as you want to pay for (10% crit, 300 dex, double resist, etc). I personally use a 200 dex, vit, cc Hallowed Defender since I like how it looks. Since 1.04 shields can roll some +Monk skills, but not for the popular skills that appear on helms/skull grasps.
My 2 cents as far as gearing a Monk today to do MP5+ solo is actually get two sets of gear. Set 1 - High-dps set to snapshot sweeping winds. Typically that means 4pc Innas and the biggest Dex/LL Skorn you can afford. ~10m for a 100k dps set I'd guess Set 2 - High-resist/hp/ias/cc/loh set to sustain after snapshot. Only requirement is at least one item with spirit regen and 4pc Inna's to keep sweeping up (defensive inna's are pretty cheap) ~5m for the sustain gear. Sledge fist is fun.
Can solo up to MP10 abusing SW snapshot. The higher the snapshot dps + the higher the EHP your sustain set dictates how high an MP you can solo. I have 35 Act 3 keys doing MP0 and when I get really bored do some A1/2 MP5+ with this technique and it's effective, but feels so much slower since I drop Tailwind from the MP5+ build. -_-

Another thing is that when you abuse sweeping wind snapshots properly, getting more cyclones generated should outweigh the benefits of dual wielding, and you just can't replace that 10% crit chance for proccing cyclones.

Right, so I find myself not quite sure where to continue. Coming back from a 3 month break (GW2) I've kinda made a complete makeover, but I'm somewhat reaching the point where I'm not sure what would be the wisest investment anymore. I know that my Hellfire Ring is kinda crap (alright defense-wise but...), and doing some MP8-10 Über-runs with friends is definitely on my to do list, but other than that? I know I really should get some better weps, but rare weps with Loh/LS, crit dmg & socket get pretty crazy expensive if you want high dps, and if I want an Echo with similar stats but with an added socket... we're talking hundreds of millions. Any advice on other purchase orders or should I just keep getting dat money? (Currently have around 30m and 50-100m more in sales on AH if someone would be so kind as to fkn buy shit)
http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/HaXXspetten-1637/hero/8565676
Standard skill setup: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#aSgXYk!aXU!acYbca Farming skill setup: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#acgYSQ!ZcU!aZYccZ (been playing around with Explosive Light, Implosion and others on the latter as well)
Also bought a Dex/LS Skorn + dual LS/LoH/Socket daggers for being able to tank MP10 in DPS spec (SW snapshot + weapon swap), bit overkill maybe but good lord is 2500 LoH + 10% LS fun to use lol, kinda invulnerable.

Your CC is a bit low in my opinion, i would be looking for a nice amulett with CC/CD or attackspeed instead of CD. But looks very solid, i guess you have to shell out some big bugs to get some noticable upgrades from here on.
|
|
^ like I said to some other guy, stop mixing resists, you have OWE for a reason you can upgrade several things quite severly for just a few millions each, would also recommend you to get yourself a Hellfire Ring and 4-set Inna's if you want also there's no reason to not use Stars for sockets at least
|
It looks like your left ring (keen signet) and amulet could be easily improved. Your all res is really high for mp0; I'm thinking your main problem is that you're missing life steal/life on hit. Try to get life steal on one weapon, or 1k life on hit overall from rings/amulet/weapon and that should make it less painful to engage certain elites.
edit: by easily improved, i mean basically having more of the stats they currently have. amulets are great for a life on hit source, for me i use blackthorne's; it shouldn't be too expensive without a crit chance roll, you can give that a try.

hi guys a wizzy here. ive got a friend who just came back to d3 after several months and he is sort of lost on builds gearing etc.
what are the best budget builds for a monk? is there any guide around?

You don't need nearly 1k LoH for mp0. I would say 500, but you could probably even get by with less than that.
|
Assuming the 75k dps is legit; I'd say you could clear mp0 with 0 LoH, you'll be generating health globes that quickly. Then you have BoH + Potions for bosses; but even Azmo and Cydaea drop a lot of globes themself.
I'm tempted to say that with 75k dps you can blow up MP0 elites fast enough that you don't even have to watch ground effects.
|
only need like ~45k sheet dps to pop (non-extra health) elites within a blind/overawe/serenity combo
edit: this was before monster power was even implemented so i'm sure it's even lower since mp0 is even weaker than 1.04 inferno

Oh god, just looking at that sheet again gives me the urge to puke, but i guess i have to work my way through this after all. But just looking at your math there it doesn´t seem to be a nice upgrade...

Some good news, since I originally posted that stuff.
D3rawr does WKL bonuses (I don't have one so I can't confirm it's accuracy): http://www.d3rawr.com/d
and it has an armory importer ;-).
Edit: Since it wasn't immediately obvious when I started using the site, you can toggle between gear / skills to compare builds and gear set-ups.

Oh nice, that looks far more appealing to me. Alright, did the same as i did on d3up, dps is identical on both sides, so accuracy is good. Maybe you can take a look at the 2 different weapon sets: http://www.d3rawr.com/d-fZ783#
So besides the paper dps the only difference would be the FoT and SW damage, which isn´t really much. Is that all for hidden damage for the WKL? I mean, if my paper-dps would increase for 20k and my FoT and SW damage only slightly increases, the diffence of the paper-dps should still be a notable upgrade, right? I got 80 mio and found a nice Wailing Host today (got no real idea how to price-tag it: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=339941¤tpage=306#6106 ), so i´m looking what to upgrade next and i have that WKL for ages now.
|
how is FoT and SW damage irrelevant to you...? that's practically all your damage -.-
you need to not take paper dps to heart so much. that number is inflated by so many different factors and only goes off 100% weapon damage so it's hardly accurate at all. 25% boost to EVERY punch and EVERY cyclone is a huge increase
