NYR is a "terrible hockey team", "Crosby Sucks"... Crosby is one of the best hockey players in the world. the Rangers are in the final 4. and , we have a stats expert who says Wilson was a better coach for the Leafs than Carlyle because he tried to fit a square peg into a round hole. That is, imposing a puck possession game play style on a no talent team. When ur team has no talent you do what countless no-talent teams have done over the past 50 years. And, that "no talent" is all relative between the 2 teams playing each other. nevermind that the leafs were never close even making the playoffs during Wilson's 4 year tenure. i have a puck possession chart and that's all that matters. LOL.

No way they're moving Crosby either, he just puts too many people in the seats.

This interview is very insightful because even though he has never worn a pair of skates he is a fellow in the Society of Actuaries and can break everything down to pure stats. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/curtis-joseph-on-jonas-hiller-ryan-miller-toronto-maple-leafs-martin-brodeur-tuukka-rask-carey-price/

Man, something has to happen with Pittsburgh if they expect to compete in the playoffs. There is no (allegedly) top tier team that is as top heavy as the Penguins. And it seems that year-over-year they get whittled down further and lose ever more depth. This chart is particularly telling. It shows the share of scoring that a team's 3rd and 4th lines represent. ![]() Pretty telling, eh? Look at Chicago, LA and Boston and contrast that with Pittsburgh. People were looking at this chart months ago and coming to the conclusion that the Sharks were not as good as people thought and that they wouldn't get past LA. Anyways, point being that the elite teams in the NHL show very good possession stats. And Pittsburgh gets eaten alive when their bottom 6 forwards are on the ice. You can't give up that much and expect to compete at the top - which is what people expect of Pittsburgh. edit: + Show Spoiler [<3 Cujo] + ![]()

![]() THat chart is hilarious. Their drop really coincided with the Staal trade. It murdered their bottom six because he killed it down there.

OK, so you know for sure Shero's job is safe? http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/pittsburgh-penguins-gm-ray-shero-jeopardy-coach-dan-bylsma-rangers-loss/ if the Shero, Bylsma "regime" is dismantled the new guys will want to review every aspect of the team. with the new CBA rules "blowing up a team" is easier. also, your definition get "going to get blown up" needs to be tightened up to have a meaningful debate on whether or not the pundits are "correct". I'd say these "pundits" are just reporting on the fact that the Mario is going to evaluate everyone from top to bottom, including Shero. "the bottom 6" consists of 6 guys, not 1. On May 14 2014 23:13 Flaccid wrote: Pretty telling, eh? Look at Chicago, LA and Boston and contrast that with Pittsburgh. At worst, I'd do what Bowman does. Watch hockey 24/7/365.

The only rationale I can see in firing Bylsma is to shake things up, which definitely has an effect on teams. But the available coaches appear to be meh. As the cap goes up, they'll be able to fill out that bottom six.

In the playoffs, when you run into deeper teams that can run 3 good lines, adjust to your play over a seven game series, and play match ups, but you cant because the bottom six sucks dick, that is when things go to shit. That is more on Shero than anyone. Crappy drafting, not filling depth needs. I think Bylsma is just an ok coach, but if you are gonna fault him for anything, it should be discipline and player management. Tanner Glass should absolutely not have played last night. His team also tries wayyy too many cutesy stretch passes and dumb cross ice passes in the zone. His team, esp Sid, Malkin and Neal, also very quickly get frustrated and take dumbass penalties.

In general I think coaches get a bit too much blame for things, but having a coach that players want to play for does make a huge difference...
