Agree, never understood this stuff with hanging in channels for enternity, instead of actually playing Some people prefer socializing over playing. That's the point: there are better ways to socialise nowadays. Yes, Starcraft was released before MSN messenger, but now we have all kinds of voice chat and social media for those who only want to chat, leaving game lobby channels empty except for (surprise!) those looking for a game. While I agree there are certainly "better" ways to socialize nowadays, is it really more convenient having to rely on an external site/service to do that when you have a simpler method of achieving what you seek (talking about the game, strategies etc.) already implemented in the game?
Yes. Most people who play with their friends are playing multiple different games with different people, and so certain discussions about games are much more convenient if they are outside any particular game.
Of course certain hardcore players stick to one single game, but even then is it often more convenient to use a lightweight and specialised service for chatting.

It's a lot to do with the colour palette. The bnet 1.0 ones are much warmer. Changing the font colour of ids and their text would help a lot I think. And the background image maybe. For the record I didnt love the wc2 bnet for similar reasons (well tft anyway), but it had some more different colours to break things up.
Agree. But changing some colours is a minor thing in the grand scheme of things, isn't it? When a big Swedish music streaming service changed their colours a few years ago a lot of people were very upset, but this is forgotten and their product is still doing well since the functionality is the same or better.

guys using discord you can use discord, other people prefer chat channels or maybe both is great too the integrated chat system is very important! let me tell you that, you may not know if you haven't hung out on bnet in the earlier days! a ton of activity on the channels and this helped the game (playing) too obviously good functionality and defaults are important, the profile & icons & stats, the / commands, the aspect, etc

Anyone tried to connect other servers which appeared today? Fish, Europe - none of them working for me, can't even create account.
|
Ackh! They've split the gateways. We need to push for a consolidation, this is absurd.
|
Exactly. Fish + Global Server is all we need at limited activity times. I expect a huge growth but don't think it will be sustainable. Also people will stick to the game longer if they are more together.
|
Other gateways seem to be up, just connected to EU.
|
Connected to Europe today, beside the (apparently) few games and people present, played at LIGHT SPEED, no more latency. After a very laggy experience yesterday, 10/10 to developer for reacting this fast to complains. This way, this game is damn FUN!

I agree but at the same time the lag thing, its hard to say huhu I don't know how good the latency would be for a global server, but actually since the game itself is peer to peer it would work, just make it more difficult to make non laggy game for like 3v3 or something . . . unless there is added option that only people close to you in a certain area can join your game . . . (or with a lat limit) feels like it would be great to have a global server, I'm just not sure how well it would work in some situations

How did you connect? Somehow I cannot connect. By the way I can't see any servers, weird....
@Edit: Ok I had to just put it on my C drive and it is working now. But I cant download any map

Everything is perfect, there are only few things needed - bnet chat commands - autocomplete chat command on Tab - no friend limitation
make BW great again !

I can't even run the game, I get a really weird error

same way as other gateway, it put you in USA-1 but it's EU server. There is a problem for creating game and watching replays (say something wrong with advertising the game) ... i think it's 3:6 error, anyone?

Annoyed with hosting atm: One guy kept pestering me to start even tho he hasn't finished downloading the map yet, so I tried to start and got the error message that it hasn't finished. However that made the % counter get stuck. Even after he left the lobby it stayed, even when another guy filled in, making me unable to start the game. Thus I restart BW and host again, but similar issue: download gets stuck at some % and stays after they leave lobby: ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/Fbrwoku.png) Now a few hours later it is even worse: it never gets past the "Creating Game" box, no matter how long I wait all I get is: ...

I'm running a linux machine, can't get it running through wine, can't get it running through an XP VM, 7 VM, or 10 VM. Like, the fuck? Never had this much trouble running a game before, especially when 1.16 runs fine through wine.
Same here - Normally I'm pretty good at figuring out what the problem is. I can't figure it out though.
err:module:attach_process_dlls "ClientSdk.dll" failed to initialize, aborting err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Starcraft\\StarCraft.exe" failed, status c0000094
The error is a divide by zero error, which tells me ClientSdk.dll is wanting some libraries that default wine prefixes don't have and probably libraries that are not available via winetricks.

Currently having problems creating games in EU as posted above, seems like the server fails to list the games to people and terminates the creation.
|
need to uninstall current version to try this out? because if not it says can't patch a 1.16.1? or error with mpq file for 1.16.1 before I downloaded the client launcher install from website

Can't host on EU either =(
