So I woke up this morning, Abit to late for work, but managed to sneak in without my boss noticing.
Browsed TL on my phone leaving some comments while beeing in the bathroom. Got up when I was about to flush the toilet,
And the worst case scenario happens, I drop the F****** cellphone in the toilet as it was beeing flushed,
Had to watch my new LG Optimus 2X p990 get sucked down in the drain as I was to tired to even react. And thats not the worst thing, Whats worse is that its not actually my phone, but my workphone with all my work on it.
(no, insurence havent kicked in yet) And i'm a Android developer so like most of my work for the past 6 months got flushed away in half a second..
Havent told my boss yet as he would probably facepalm as hell and fire me.... So yeah, I have to replace the phone (About 600$)
And on top of that I probably get fired aswell as having to watch my hard work getting flushed in a instance. Damn this day is definately not my day.

Cellphone rule #1: Don't bring it to the bathroom.
|
Thanks for the heads up.. :/ Was on the bathroom in desperation now and just put my hand down the toilet and found it, It had just stopped under the first turn.. But its turned off and pretty wet. Drying it up now and hopefully the Sd card atleast works.. If only i just would have put my hand down the toilet faster, I might have been able to save the hole thing. FML

Glad to hear you recovered the phone. I imagine even if the phone itself isn't salvageable, some to most of the data will be. I've personally had good experiences with cellphones living through submersion in water for extended periods of time.
Hope it works out for you!

Hope it works out for you! Thanks! I Have just now opened the phone for it to dry up, I'm praying to god that this works lol ;D The best thing would be if it was all fine when dry, and i didnt have to tell my boss x(

so... if all of your work was on there, what did you do for the rest of the day? Sit at your desk and pretend to work?

RULE NO.1 about phones that got wet: DON'T LET IT DRY UP! Unless you're sure it's clean and any of the circuits won't corrode (i mean, take it wet to any place that repairs phones - they should clean it with distilled water)

I cant take it out yet because I cant just leave work without saying anything. I should try to start it then? Or?
|
I mean, if you let it dry up like that you risk that some of the circuits would corrode and no longer work. But if you can't do that, just don't try to turn it on when its wet - it would probably short circuit instantly.

I think he means dismantle it, wash it with distilled water or alcohol (not the drinking kind). Dry for a couple of days at least.
Don't you work on an actual computer? How can your work be on a phone? Backups? If it's just the phone, accidents happen, shouldn't be such a big deal explaining (some of it) to your boss.

Reminds me of something that happened freshman year of college. My roommate was snoozing (as it was the morning), and for some reason he'd put the cellphone on the window sill next to and above his bed. As the alarm rang, he somehow managed to prop the window open while trying to turn off the alarm.
The phone fell.
We lived on the 5th floor.
+ Show Spoiler +But it landed in some bushes and was perfectly ok.

Worst case scenario you could make up some story like.. you were feeling sick and dizzy in the stall, someone called and you pulled out your phone thinking it was important, and ended up fainting in the stall or something, I dunno. :p Good luck!

Sqlite database test's as well as beta and most of my finished work is on my phone, As the program is on my computer but the what the program puts in a table/scrollview is on the phone..

Brilliant! I should probably go to bed instead of offering excuse advice.

Well guys, I think the thing to do here is to tell my boss. As my consience is really killing me, aswell as the fact that i'm trying to hide. Thanks for all your advice and tips tho!
|
OMFG, It fucking works again!! Cant be more happy! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D EDIT: Nevermind.. Just took awhile before the screen got fkd up.
|
You should arrange an accident where your boss sees your phone get wet and also sees it's clearly not your fault.
On a sidenote:
the only chance for your phone to work again is letting it dry completely. This can take between 12 and 24 hours. Even longer if it was lots of water like in your case.
You should take the battery of the phone immediately and dry the sole parts for 24 hours straight. Call in sick or something in order to get home if you don't wanna tell.

I'm sure you already know since you work in cell phone biz, but stick it in a bowl of dry rice for an extended period of time to absorb leftover moisture. Use a vacuum to suck wetness out if you need to (dont use a hair dryer).
edit- damn you should know better than to try and turn it on after it got soaked.

Well yes I do, But the fact is I've allready told my boss what happened, Aswell as bought a new phone online, So thought it could not hurt either way, Boss didnt get angry. The fact that it actually happened and he saw the cellphone and it wasnt just a excuse for me loosing it, he was surprised I wasnt lying as more ppl have actually lied about this because they've lost their cell. Lol Either way I think it will be fine. Still a shame but people can get unlucky :/

I cant believe you dont back up your work. I would backup every 2 hours.
EDIT: you are a developer. Write a program for this.
|
Well nothing got lost except for some important phone numbers, but atleast they can be replaced and the sd card was totally fine :D but learned my lesson xD
|
Still backup your work brah.
Always.
|
Atleast know your boss knows you dare to tell the truth to him. You could have easily lied about it being stolen or lost. Props to you for being honest

its all right i had a brand new zune get sucked into the toilet.. it was like less than a week old couldn't even fish it out cause it was the small thin one T_T glad to see you got your problem resolved though
ps your story helped me talk about this because i was so embarrassed about what happened that no one knows about this aside from my mom and one of my friends, so ty for helping me come to terms with this. i know this sounds kind of retarded but it was a pbig deal to me... uh yeah

May want to look this up but supposedly if you put electronics in a bowl of rice or something it will absorb some of the moisture, I have not tried it myself though.

This is true but only works to a certain extent. Obviously, water doesn't damage electronics directly, but it causes shorts. If the phone is turned off when it gets wet, then taking the battery out and putting it in a bowl of rice for a while should help.
If it's already on when it falls in the water, there's a good chance the electronics will be damaged in which case removing the water doesn't help.

My phone also drowned in the laundry a few years back but my cousin had some interesting knowledge about soaking it in alcohol. It fixed my screen (all the blurryness and spots) but my cousin snapped the screen of the phone off on accident T_T. See if google can help you in that manner in any way gl
