in the Discussion about 'Kaal International StarLeague' thread. So that was pretty disappointing. But i picked myself up, dusted myself off and decided to just being a jerk and blog at 2001 anyway. Why? because fuck even numbers. Even numbers suck. odd numbers, imo, present a much more concise way of presenting themselves. No dividing by two on an odd number. Fuck that shit.
Anyways, i digress. I wanted to talk about a couple of things. They are a) Streaming, b) Haters, c) Writing, d) fpvod
a) Streaming
Thats right, i'm answering my blog like an exam question, why? because i'm an engineer. I just finished up all my exams and i'm looking forward to streaming alot more over the holidays. Streaming is something i started on the 18th of march 2010. So well over a year ago. i still have the PM i sent to sonuvbob to get my stream in the TL sidebar(this was before r1ch wrote the auto-adding application, and before chill was adding the streams)

Ok, you're listed on http://www.teamliquid.net/video/userstream.php now. If you want you can make a discussion thread for your stream in the BW or SC2 forum and I'll move it to the right place after a day or so. Just include a link to the stream and some info about it.
You can edit your stream settings (race, description, and online/offline status, which has to be changed manually for now) through the 'stream' link at the top left. If you're streaming SC make sure you set the game to Starcraft 2 to get the [SC2] tag in the sidebar.

Hi Sonuvbob. I read in another thread that to get my stream on the right bar of TL i had to PM you.
So yeah, I'll be streaming some korean pro SC (from ferron when other streamers are away), and SC2 (plat level, mostly terran).
Was wondering if I could possibly get added to the sidebar.
I've also put in a submission for verification by livestream and it's pending.
My stream is tv.zeroboy.net/kianteschannel
Thanks for any assistance.

Oh how innocent I was. Watching some pro BW on ferron(do people remember ferron? Damn that was a good source) and playing some sc2(platinum was the highest rank back in beta btw). I was using livestream procaster and it looked like garbage. Like, shitty res, bad frame rate, and it lagged the hell out of my sc2 itself because my computer couldn't handle sc2 + streaming at the time. I didn't have a microphone, and i was bad. I barely streamed at all in this period.
Then i got bored of the wonders of sc2 and wandered back to BW which i'd started back in mid 2009 and decided to try and stream that. After being confused why it didn't just work with procaster i found the mogulus guide that Rage wrote ( http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=90892 ) and the HD ustream tutorial ( http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=124256 ) and combined them together, and on the 25th of august i switched to Ustream and started streaming some broodwar using an illegal version of camtasia, FMLE and ustream broadcaster.
I had lots of good times streaming on ustream, but there was a point last year(this year? fuck i forget) when ustream became unwatchable in the most part for Australians. I was streaming proleague off afreeca at this point fairly regularly as well as good amateur fpviews and eventually i switched to justin.tv. When i made this switch i also made a quakenet channel (#kiante) for my stream chat. This was so i could have all my chats in one window. This helped because #teamliquidbw channel was just getting off the ground too so i could switch easily between the two without needing to have another browser window opened to use the jtv chat.
People compliment the quality of my stream a lot, and although i don't really respond to compliments very much(just in general) i really appreciate them. I don't think people understand the time commitment it takes to make your stream look the best it can. I live in Australia. our internet sucks ass. I worked really hard to tweak settings all over the place to make my 0.8mbs upload speed work as hard as it could to get the best looking stream possible. I tried all different programs and setups and landed on xsplit(which I've pre-purchased). It just looks better. I don't know why.
Anyways, I wanted to clarify, I don't make any money off streaming, I'm not a jtv partner or anything, i stream for fun. Because there's no feeling like knowing people are looking over your shoulder when you're playing. it gives you a combination of nerves, excitement and responsibility which i really enjoy. Even when i only had 3-4 viewers for months when i was a D+ noobie, to now when i can get upwards of 150-200, its that same feeling. That feeling that if u fuck up, someone is laughing at you. if you do something cool someone is cheering for you. That is why i stream.
b) Haters
Its amazing the sheer volume of haters that come into my stream chat to abuse me. It never really happened when i had less viewers, but it seems like, with popularity(ie: more viewers) comes haters. To the haters, why are you hating? I mean if you have a legitimate reason to hate me, go ahead, i know I've made a bunch of enemies in this community over the couple of years I've been here, but just hating me for the sake of it? come on
Also to people randomly hating on BW, at least come in with a proper argument, because instead of banning you I'm going to start quizzing you on your beliefs, so at least know what they are before you start hating.
c)Writing
I just recently started guest writing for the SPL writeup team. It's not something i was really interested in doing for the longest time. I never thought i had the writing skills to pull it off. In high school i actually got a B for English( my worst grade). I've always been more of a science/maths kinda person, and as such entertaining writing doesn't really come easy to me. But with the departure of some of the writers, there was whisperings of the PL team having trouble so i finally(with the pushing on HawaiinPig) dived in and offered to help. And for the last 3 weeks i've been writing the proleague recap. Its actually really fun. I get to broadcast my opinions of the games to a huge audience while also informing people. Its like i write half like a documentary, just stating facts, doing mini-battle-reports, and the other half i can throw in my 2c on what went down in a game. I'm really having fun with it, but i know I'm really not good at it. So if people have suggestions on how i could improve, please let me know, and hopefully Riptide will let me keep writing in the near future. Now that I've finished exams i can spend more time on the recaps and hopefully improve the quality as they were a bit rushed during my exam period.
d) fpvod
So this is another thing I've been considering doing for a while. One of the things I've written on TL is a series of battle reports that i posted in my blog. Just fun games that i had decided to report on, usually when i reached a milestone(c-, c, c+ for example) or something like that. People seem to enjoy them, but i felt like they were getting a little stale.
Then i thought about my stream, people watch more when i talk, than when i don't, so i thought, why don't i take one of the games from my stream and do a combat-ex style strategic FPvod of it.
Note that this is just a prototype. I thought I'd try it out, and I'm really not sure how well it came out.
I'm looking for brutally honest feedback. If you think its garbage, tell me. If you like it, tell me. If you'd like it if i changed x, y and z. Tell me. If people could/do like it, I'll maybe try and do more during the holidays.
The reason i decided to do this was because the FPvods i watched when i was learning BW helped me immensely. Orb's PvT on python fpvod single handedly taught me to PvT in a standard game. Nony's 2 gate reaver fpvod was my standard pvp build for almost a year. I feel like they are an invaluable resource to me, and i'd like to maybe contribute with some newer builds that haven't been covered before.
So this fpvod is of a PvP 12 nexus. The strategy is detailed in this amazing thread by OneOther http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=137582 This build is amazing and it has slowly become my standard ladder build. Its extremely versatile, strong and gives you the mental edge over an opponent not expecting it. I tried my best to explain what was going on, what decisions i was making and why during the video. Note that I am C+. So people over C- probably wont get much value from this, and its probably more suited to lower level players. I picked a short game so it would fit easily on one youtube video, wouldn't take too long to upload, and it meant i didn't have to talk for too long.
Anyways, please, let me know what you think of it. and thanks for reading my 2001st post celebration blog.
