If the moderators do not mind I will just copy and paste the original SC2 format here with Tech Support topic edits:
Got a simple question?
Would graphics card X be bottlenecked by my CPU Y?
Why do people use Nvidia when it is more expensive?
How much should I overclock my processor with equipment X and reason Y (at Z FPS)?
Ask in this thread when you have a simple question that can be answered by a simple answer. Please always check if you can find an answer in Google or by using the Search function first. Most simple questions have already been answered elsewhere.
What not to ask in this thread
What is a good processor? (Situational)
What does graphics card additional RAM do? (Google / Benchmarks)
Help me find a computer for SC2 please? (Too generic)
HP or Dell overall? (Survey / spam question)
Anyone doing anything in this thread but asking or answering simple questions will get their asses kicked.
FAQ: Q: What about the computer build resource thread? A: That only applies for computers, not everything covered in the Tech Support section.

This is a good idea in theory, but I doubt this thread will be on the first page for long.
It's too general, people need specific answers for tech support most of the time.
If someone has a quick question, they can pop into IRC with the other 4,000 people and get an answer pretty fast,
edit: looks like I was wrong

What would be the best GPU I can get for my PC without it being bottlenecked by my CPU.
My current CPU: 3.0Ghz E8400 OC'd to 3.7 Ghz
My current RAM: 2 X 2GB Corsair XMS2 800Mhz
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help

This depends on your resolution and the games you play but for 1080p - a GTX 560, Radeon 6870, or worse would be your best option.

i play on a 27 inch at 1920 X 1080. so If i was to buy a 6950 it would be bottlenecked?
|
I know that the Dell XPS 15 will run SC2 pretty well on Medium, but how well will it run it on High? Estimated FPS would be nice.
I just ordered it for $650

Is a 1680x1050 resolution decent for a 23 inch monitor? If I was to upgrade to 1920x1080 would I notice a HUGE difference?

That's completely subjective, go to a store and see if you can see a difference between the two resolutions.

The wider the screen, the more of the SC2 map you see, since the size of the viewable area is scaled to the vertical dimension of the screen. 1920x1080 is wider (16 : 9) than 1680x1050 (16 : 10), which will allow you to see more of the battlefield.
Unless the price difference is large or there are other important factors (like the image quality of the monitors being vastly different), I would always go for the 1920x1080 monitor.

Hi not sure if this is the right place, but I cannot post anything for 3 days. Am sure it’s a simple question for anyone that knows a lot about windows.
I have a question about user accounts within the security tab. Am hoping someone could help me here. I have just checked the properties a file and noticed within security I have many user accounts under the name "account unknown (S-1-5-21-1553323097-1041290312-283004807-1001)".
Within the system tab I have the normal user accounts, user-PC, home users and administrators. But in between User-PC and home users, is 6 Account unknown`s, that range from “(S-1-5-21-1553323097-1041290312-283004807-1001)” to “(S-1-5-21-1553323097-1041290312-283004807-1007)”
I have been searching Google for people who have also have/got this problem, however in some forums people have told forum poster many different things, some say its normal for this to happen, others say it’s not and it should only happen if you have 2 running OS`s, or maybe installed/upgraded a OS over a another one, others have said it could be spyware or virus, or these type of things changing my settings.
I haven’t done any of these things to the OS, so hence my concern. I have done full scans using Kaspersky internet security 2011, Spybot Search and Destroy and Malwarebytes then used Ccleaner, but have found nothing.
Would it be possible if anyone that knows why this happens to help me out on this matter, as am working 3 months in Spain and the last thing I want, would be to lose control of my computer or my files getting damaged but I have backed up everything important just in case.
I am using Windows 7 home premium, 64 bit, Service pack 1. I have added a screen shot, which hopefully may highlight the problem abit more. If anyone requires any other information I will be happy to provide it.
+ Show Spoiler +] Many Thanks

If i want to buy a korean copy of sc2 and play on their ladder from north America, what is required to do that? I know I need a korean battle.net account and that requires a name and a kssn, but do I need anything else? I think I remember someone mentioning a phone number.
edit: got one thanks guys

Would my Radeon 4890 1GB be bottlenecked by my Intel Core i7 920 (or the other way around), both at stock speeds? Running on two Dell U2311h IPS monitors, both at 1920x1080 resolution. I'm wondering about for overall usage, from gaming to video editing etc. I run SC2 on high settings, and it runs fairly smoothly for the most part at around 60fps. Thanks!
|
No it wouldn't, that graphics card is no where strong enough to bottleneck a 920.

Is there any way to recover irc logs from yesterday when you use the IRC web client on TL?

May anyone suggest a good, reliable defragging program with a progress indicator (text or graphical) that is compatible with Vista?

Why does my stream on Justin.tv have commercials when I'm not even one of the official broadcasters?
