Hello, My name is Dakota and I am from Wichita,Kansas. I am sixteen years old and live with my parents. I have struggled all my life with my weight, well at least I have been overweight for at least 70% of my life. I never viewed it as a problem and really still don't think I need to lose it. But I want to lose it. I'm really tired of being that kid in gym who is only good at the one day of the year that we play tackle football, and just is just pitiful at everything else. So I'm starting my Journey, but I am really unsure of what to do. I have cut all soda and fast food from my diet.I'm trying to get at least a mile to a half of a mile a day on my bike, 1600ish calories a day max. I play football which works in my favor. I have been working this for about a month now and have lost about 10 pounds. Which is good, but I feel I can do better
So I ask you TL, Will you help me :D

Yes! Such a great story I'm one year under you and in a similar situation. Biking is good, but i kinda suggest working towards running...it's harder, and burns more calories. I dunno how you cut all pop and fast food from your diet, but dayum, nice job.

Thank you guys for the replies, I posted on the initiative topic and am excited to get started, but he goes really in depth and I was looking for just some small tips to help get me started. Bippzy, I will try running but I can only run in cleats and I don't wanna ruin those The last day I had fast food I ate two big macs plus large fries and felt horrible afterwards, that helped :D

I can't really give you tips because I'm really inexperienced in this sort of thing, but I wish you the best!

lol wow just keep that up, remember that optimal weightless kind of counterbalances with how insane it will drive you. find a fairly comfortable rate and get in the habit of sticking to it is my advice, i'm doing the opposite of you by the way lol, bulking.

I've heard stories on what Americans eat from day to day... Please cut on all that cheese and bacon and pizzas and cheese and bacon - burgers. Doesn't matter if it's fast food or not it's bloody greasy.
Someone 1 know stopped snacking after midnight, ~3 am since he started working and he was losing 1-2 kg a week. Of course he exercised too but before he cut on the snacks he was putting on weight. He exercised the same amount as before.

I would totally recommend you check out http://www.sparkpeople.com/
It is a fantastic website where you can track your food intake, exercise and your goals. Also totally free and comes with a great supportive community.

The best thing for you is making the diet and the exercise a habit. If you can do that, the results won't be dramatic or overnight but when you lose the weight you'll be able to keep it off and live healthier than so many people do. Congratulations on the 10 pounds, that's no small feat, just stick with it and it sounds like you can definitely reach your goal.

You're almost 6'? 200bls isn't that overweight is it? But high five on trying to get healthier, I always applaud big people when I see them at the gym, when other people tease them.

The health thread is a gold mine for information, encouragement and motivation. I would strongly urge you to check it out.
If you can cut out all soda and fast food, control your food intake portions, and mix in some daily exercises such as walking or biking, you'll lose weight rather quickly. Just try to keep it up.
220 for 5'11" is honestly not that bad, what's your ideal goal weight? I'm 5'10.5", and I'm at around 170. I'm trying to put on some weight actually.
