I would go for a Core i5-2x00 on a computer me ant to last that long. Who knows--maybe some of those SSE4.2 and especially AVX instructions will become more prevalent. The new Intel CPUs support those, while the Phenom II don't.
Another PSU option is the Antec Neo Eco 450C for $45 (no mail in rebate) http://ncix.com/products/?sku=60491
An i5-2400 and HD 5770 system would like less than 250W full load, so you've got plenty of room there. Strangely enough, the Antec Neo Eco 450C, Antec High Current Gamer 400/520/620, and Seasonic S12II are all related in that they're all manufactured by Seasonic and have internals based very closely off of the retail Seasonic S12II units. Why does Antec have two product lines (Neo Eco and lower-wattage HCG) that are practically the same internally and cost practically the same to make*? Marketing I guess.
*okay, HCG ones are very slightly better and should be a little bit more expensive

My friend does not need 4 core. Well, not for the current generation games My only fear with duo core I3 is that it will become too weak in the next 5-7 years. Ok, that's really far and nobody can know for sure. I believe duo is the minimum nowadays. Although speculation, do you think that 4core will become standard soon?
What about the speculations about Bulldozer? When will these get out? Wait before purchasing the cpu/mobo?
|
Bulldozer is expected to be released this June at Computex 2011. Bulldozer will most likely not be as powerful as Intel's Sandybridge.
|
which would you reccomend?
AMD phenom X4 965 BE $120 no tax i3 2100 +H61 mobo $170 + tax i5 2400 $175 no tax
GTX 460 768 $120 no tax radeon HD 6850 $130 no tax
|
core i5 2400 and 6850 is a no brainer at those prices.

What does 900 ca mean? California? Canadian dollars?
Please specify what is asked for in the OP (whether you want to overclock or not, what are you going to be using the PC for, and what resolution / size monitor).
|
What is your budget?
900-1000 CANADIAN DOLLARS excluding monitor
What is your resolution?
i think i wanna get an lcd I can use for console and pc games?
What are you using it for?
sc2, d3, css
What is your upgrade cycle?
3 years iono
When do you plan on building it?
asap
Do you plan on overclocking?
prolly not hxc enough
Do you need an Operating System?
yeah, is windows 7 what i want?
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
maybe?
Where are you buying your parts from? new egg or whatever else has the best deal
Any help would be greatly appreciated as i have only ever bought pre-built computers and am not really sure how to go about researching components and compatability.

hi all, i'm looking to build up a desktop, but haven't build one before. i have some working knowledge of computers, but am a bit behind with the latest tech, and i also have some basic questions.
first: cpu's--i'm having a tough time figuring out which ones have integrated graphics and which don't. i'm looking for an intel cpu, and from what i can tell, the sandy bridge ones all have integrated graphics? is it possible to run a separate gpu on one of these anyway? what should i be looking for (sub $200) in terms of processors?
second: this is a super basic question, but one that i've never figured out...will any motherboard fit in any case? is there much involved in making sure the usb ports line up where they should (since it seems different cases place their usb ports in different locations)?
thanks for the help, sorry for being a noob.

@Tengo_Hambre
The integrated graphics card on the new Intel processors are automatically disabled when it detects a discrete graphics card installed. The only processor you should be looking at in the $200 range is either the core i5 2400 or core i5 2500k. The "K" has an unlocked multiplier which is used for overclocking.
Any ATX tower will fit any mATX and ATX motherboard. The front panel USB ports have connectors that are plugged into the motherboard. The motherboard will include its own I/O port for the back.

I think ill go for the newest SB i5. But ill have to make sure though, how much converting that good AMD bundle into the SB would be in term of $$ and what it will be with the shipping
|
|
Does every lga1155 socket mobo is compatible with SB i5 2300? I'd prefer to keep everything within ncix products, so that i can minimize the shippings costs and insurance
|
|
only 2 room for ram though. I guess 4gb is standard and we shouldn't exepct games or prorams to require more than that for the next 5-7 years?

I am planning on doing a side grade on my i3-530. I'll be overclocking and playing games at max settings. Here's the build. Part's are being purchased from a retailer I've used for the last couple years (filtech computers) or ncix.com. I'll also be using some parts from my old build. Budget is $500 max.
i5-2500k @ $219.99 Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3-B3 @ $124.99 (I want the UD3P chipset tbh, i like the black color lol) DVD/Boot Drive - ?? ($20- $30) Total = $360 before taxes
Part's I will be reusing. Corsair A70 CPU Cooler Cooler master Haf 912 ATI HD5870 1GB 24inch monitor 500 GB Hard drive
I'll have about $80-$100 dollars left to spare and I was wondering what and if I should be upgrading/adding some other parts. Right now, I have a Kingston 4GB value kit @ 1066mhz and a OCZ StealthXStream 500W PSU. Not sure if these will be sufficient for overclocking.

Ty for you skyr for these precious information
Mind another question? My friend hard drive is infested by a virus, spyware or something... Do you think taking his HD home and put it on my desktop to format/scan can be safe, or will it threaten my other HD?
