So this weekend I took a build from liquipedia, and have been working on it to get it how I like it.
The build I ended up using was one base roach, and I seem to have gotten it down to a good spot. I have a lot of roaches and zerglings inside my opponents base earlier then they can handle.
Edit : This is the 1 base roach build : http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/1_Base_Roach
Also, if they have enough units to fend me off, I can keep going and tech up. It is not an all in build, just an early aggression build, but in Bronze it seems to end most of the games :S.
All in all I have been really enjoying it, and managed to work my way from rank 50 in my league to being rank 1 in my league, which I achieved about 15-20 minutes ago.
Not that any of you should care, but I am extremely excited that I found a build that I enjoy, and I can be successful with it. Hopefully I can get promoted to Silver soon!
On a side note, as far as a macro build goes, would I be better off learning 14 hatch 14 pool, or Sheth's Speedling expand?
Thanks all.
One excited dude, loving the game,
Venality

Nice job, my man. Keep on winning and enjoying the game

This actually is all in.
But good job anyways.

GJ, man! Keep on enjoying the game! It is a great feeling when you accomplish smth!
|
Its awesome that you are having so much fun with the game!! Its not all in at your level at all, just keep spending your money

As far as macro goes, you will eventually want to learn all of them. however, for the time being, I would suggest a speedling expand, something like 13gas/14pool then a late hatch around 20-26 depending on what happens. it just seems safer and gives you map control.
|
Well done on reaching rank 1, even if it is in Bronze it's still against people the system thinks you should play as well as so it's good.
As to expanding, I think a Speedling expand is safer, but try them both a bit, maybe against a friend or AI and see which you prefer, and run with that.

Then drone to 50 and kill them lol.

I know the feeling man, when I first started playing the game, I think I lost my first 15 games or so once I placed into bronze. Actually learning a build order was really cool at the time, and when I hit rank 1 bronze I couldn't wait to tell all my friends who were in plat and diamond. Just keep doing what's fun, it's surprising how well those builds can end up working!
|
Past gold or so this is very all in. Still a great build to learn. When learning the game its best to start by learning some good 1 or 2 base pushes like this. After you feel like you have got them down really well you can start working on the more difficult 3-4 base macro stuff.
I would highly recommend working on a Speedling Expand build next. Its is by far the safest expand you can do in all 3 of the match ups. You really have to play 14 hatch perfectly in order to hold off a 2 Rax, a 4 gate, or a Baneling bust. Speedling expand allows a lot more flexibility if you run into any of these aggressive builds.
GL HF and congrats on #1!

would you rather be rank 1 bronze, or the lowest rank of silver? ..........

Definitely in bronze I would say this is not all-in, just be ready to learn a new build order soon. Anyway big congrats on Bronze #1
You should learn the speedling expand build. Fwiw I think when most people go hatchery first these days(which is largely a versus Terran and versus Zerg thing) they 15 hatch 14 pool instead of 14 hatch 14 pool, but I may be wrong.

I would like to be in Silver, but I still feel accomplished getting rank 1 in the league I am in, even if it is bronze .
Also, I didn't know the one base roach was all in after gold :S. Anyway, soon to practice Speedling expand!
|
A good rule of thumb for you is that if it's a Zerg build and it gets its expansion after 22 food, it's pretty all-in.
|
Gz, one step toward improvement. Next: New builds & Silver. Good luck!
|
Congrats on your accomplishment.
Like others have said, once you get higher up one-base roach actually IS all-in most of the time. And also like others have said, you should learn the Speedling Expand build next. It's very safe and flexible and gives good map control. Everything a Zerg wants.
You could probably also learn Spanishiwa's no-gas 13 Hatch, 15 Pool build. At the lower leagues I'm betting you could drone to about 44-48 on 2 bases and then kill your opponent pretty easily with anything you want. Overlord drop + Speedlings/Banelings is fun.
|
For eco builds, you can do 14hatch 13pool, 15hatch 15pool, etc. or go for spanishiwa's build (the details of which you can find using your friendly neighborhood search bar). If you can practice one of these builds until it's solid enough to defend vs any early rushes, just larva inject and srrrrrrrrr to victory!

It isn't an all-in if he contains and expands?
