Hope everyone out there is enjoying the GSL as much as me
Also before you read on there are SPOILERS of todays play....
Thought Id put down some of my thoughts about todays matches and see if I can get some discussion going!
GroupE - let me say straight off that this is easily the hardest group in GSL....
Very awesome strat from Jinro first set, everyone (and by this i mean me) was thinking San would probably stomp Jinro considering his recent struggles against Protoss. However very clever use of techlab air units from the Gorilla rolls San easily. Any thoughts on this build? I personally love sky terran and to me cloaked banshees + ravens + some anti-air (in this case marines) is just very solid and will definitely be trying this out on the ladder myself.
Clide Clide Clide, FINALLY looking like a true Boss, had excellent double bunker play against NesTea followed by bf hellions put him far enough ahead to win.
Unfortunately Jinro wound up playing NesTea twice as Clide finally showed some of the potential Tastosis has been going on about forever.
Gotta feel for Jinro as NesTea is simply one of the best progamers atm and especially first set i think he thought he had done enough damage to NesTea with his BF hellions but when you look at the worker counts afterwards he was still behind by 6+ workers. From here we found out again that mutas are pretty good units (I know this is simplfying the game, but seriously, as a terran I have lost so many games to this kind of muta counterattack over my production). Second game Jinro was simply too far behind after his maka rax got scouted and threw him off his game. Looked like he might rally after NesTeas first major attack which didnt do as much as it should have, but at that stage the Z economy was too strong for a comeback.
San vs Clide was simply awesome to watch from a terran POV... multiple drops and excellent positioning by clide allowed him to prevent the matchup going to the late game where San has shown excellent results against terran. Special mention to cancelling the protoss third once, then sniping it later when he faked a frontal assult then swung round to hit the third before the protoss could re-position. Touch wood but Clide looks very strong this season and I could see him making at least the last 4.
1. Clide 2-0
2. NesTea 2-1
3. Jinro 1-2
4. San 0-2
Group F - Group probably one of the easiest groups in this season of GSL
First set was probably my favourite match of the day apart from Jinro vs San. Very sneaky gold base steal (with a twist ) from Lyn looked to be a genius decision but got scouted before it could become an impossible situation for the Zerg. After the gold was removed Lyn got greedy and went to try and take out FruitDealers 3rd after getting his fourth. This swung the game and after the 'Dealer cleaned up the push he was ahead by 30 supply. Candidate for pimpest play also occurs before the finish - SICK muta micro to position a set of marines over some baneling mines (this is why im such a FruitDealer fanboy ).
Set two was a very strange decision by Check to go two hatch muta on a relatively small map...Killer ended up repeatedly denying the zerg third with blink stalkers until Check tapped out.
I personally love Z v Z as its so micro intensive and the 'Dealer got a slight lead with his early hatch over Checks standard gas pool. From the start it just seemed like 'Dealer was a set ahead of Check with his zergling positioning and control. Despite some very nice banelings getting him a drone lead near the end, by this stage FruitDealer had had his natural up for WAAAAY longer than Check and simply steamrolled into his main. FruitDealer through to the next round (though up against NesTea so thats gonna be very tough as he is a zvz master.
The next game Killer decided it was a good ideal to attack into sieged tanks when he was on equal bases with a terran.....
The final game Killer took a greedy fast third while also building up colossus. Lyn instead of getting aggressive also took a third but wasnt harrassing terribly well with his mainly marauder bio. Unfortunately as you cant let a protoss tech to colo and templars (and get more bases!!) with his economy pretty much intact. The resulting four base push from Killer knocked Lyn into the up and down matches.
1. FruitDealer 2-0
2. Killer 2-1
3. Lyn 1-2
4. Check 0-2
Notes - special mention to TSL (the team not the tournament..though that is pretty awesome!). With 3 of their members getting through today
I basically just wanted to get down how much I love the GSL tbh and see what you guys think about these games. Also apologies for my terrible grammar and spelling!
