That position is fairly forced on me. Then again, I have relatively big hands & fingers.

So 1-5 are groups 1-5 ctrl + shift + 2-5 are 6-9 recalled with alt + the number ctrl + spacebar is group 0 (with all hatch/nex/cc on it) setting camera keys is ctrl + qwer and asdf, recalled by alt + the corresponding key Now if only I would start using those lovely camera keys xP I want to change it some more, ideally by moving everything to the right side of the keyboard so that my thumb can hit space, alt, ctrl, and shift as modifiers, my pinky can be on gh as more modifiers, and base everything as multiple stacks on uiop with my other three fingers. That will probably be really difficult to learn though

That will probably be really difficult to learn though I tried this during the beta on the PRT! I found that it works fairly well. My biggest gripe with it was that using the ALT+Control and Shift was a bit awkward for me especially when trying to macro during a battle, The original post can be found here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=174268 I called this type of hotkey setup "control 5". I like the term "Modifier" though, its simple and makes sense intuitively.

I did this for Protoss only, so I'm not actually sure it would even be workable for other races. Most building keys are grid-like on: wer sdf xcv And so are most unit production keys, while spells are biased towards the wasd keys because thats where I rest my hands. I could go into more detail but I'm pretty sure I've done some derpy stuff so I won't unless asked - but I would suggest trying a similarly mirrored control group setup for anyone who's concerned about the default hand position in the OP's scheme.

Basic layout: 1QAZ - Unit control groups 2345 - Macro control groups (6 and 7 too, but lets be honest - you're not using 10 control groups) Space - Attack TGB - Move, Hold, Patrol (H is stop, I use it rarely) WER - Majority of spells/abilities XC : State-changing abilities (Unit morphs, guardian shield, baneling explode, Tank/Viking transforms). These abilities do not require an additional mouse click to activate and thus are more costly to press accidentally... especially baneling detonate. Thus, I force myself to actually move my hand slightly to press these. Finally, all production build commands are the same as the grid hotkey setup, but shifted over one column to WER/SDF/XCV. TGB actually feels very natural for movement keys, all easily accessed by my index finger while my pinkie selects control groups. Space for attack is even better: Q-space-A-space-Z-space actually feels better than 1A2A3A to me (Full disclosure: no BW experience :p )

I really like the idea of keeping your unit controls TGB so you can manage it with your index finger easily. I tried this briefly but found that I was less accurate with them further out on the keyboard which is why I moved them to S,D,F. Keep us posted on how this setup works for you. And get a 4/5 button mouse it makes a big difference!

However...I did rekey my OS'es keymapping so spacebar is my new shift. The thumb on the spacebar (for us righties) is logically a pivot key...it works so well in combination with other keys and it is a huge waste use it for message notifications (which are impractical to use anyways). With spacebar as my new shift queueing commands is sooo slick...especially because I'm on grid and a lot of what I want do is on qaz...with the old setup shift + qaz was such a huge pain because you would have to move your ring finger over to cover these keys while pinky held down shift.

The lack of F-keys was honestly one of the biggest reasons why I didn't buy SC2...but if there are F1-F4 hotkeys now...I might be changing my mind there.... Somebody please answer this.

I know you can set F5-F8 to camera locations, and I'm fairly sure you can switch those with the hero selectors (F1-F4), so I believe so. But you didn't get SC2 because you couldn't set camera hotkeys? Take a step back and evaluate how silly that is. Do yourself a favor and try to test the game a little more before you buy it, cause I somehow doubt camera hotkeys were not the reason you didn't buy it.

ControlGroupAppend5=Shift+ForwardMouseButton ControlGroupAppend6=Shift+BackMouseButton ControlGroupAssign5=Control+F ControlGroupAssign6=Control+G I think Append should match Assign, but if it's intended, would like to hear what it lets you do.

e.g. Group 1 is empty, you select a probe, press ctrl 1. Group 1 is now that probe. You select a different probe, press shift 1, and group 1 now consists of both probes.

Without having to setup control groups with a modifier key it will make taping selections much faster.
