I think noone will argue with Kelly's accent being an issue for a lot of people. That's a fact and one she's aware of herself.
What really keeps this discussion going and inflated the other ones regarding her work is the manner in which that criticism was delivered. And that's the point where we all as a community failed on an epic scale. Sure, there were some reasonable posts in all those threads since she first appeared on GomTV. But there were also some really nasty ones, and the general mood generated a lot of bandwagoning. People that else wouldn't have become involved in the discussion suddenly had an opinion that needed to be told.
Even worse: It became presentable to troll Kelly. Forum regulars did it, veterans did it, even admins/mods did it. Remember that one TSL evening that Chill casted with Artosis and where he opened with "and everyone's favorite GSl caster, Kellymilkies!"? Sure he didn't mean harm and we all laughed at it, but that was some serious negative group/community dynamics going on right there.
It's ok to not like Kelly's style. And who knows why exactly she's leaving, what her status with GOM is and if the community reaction has anything to do with anything happening. It's none of our business anyway. We as a community, however, could have done so much better in this whole issue, from the lowliest troll up to the highest ranks of forum veterans.

i really started to like kelly's casting. She was definitely much better teamed up with artosis though. To be honest I don't think tasteless would be that great without artosis there to provide the analysis side.
I don't understand all the complaints about the accent. Maybe it's just because I've only lived in Hawaii and Southern California where accents are very common. She never said something that I couldn't understand what she meant.

I can't say I watched many of her casts but I feel bad if she left because of the fans, she had more motivation than most to go out to korea ... i wish her well.

theres no double standard
she was not good at her job
stop trying to find reasons.
its not race, its not gender. its her voice and casting skills.

At first i was kinda "eh" about her casting, and then she denied Artosis a high five, and now i'm gonna miss her

Also SDM lived in USA for a while, so his english / accent is better than kelly's imo.

but in all honesty there are more casters out there more capable and knowledgeable then her.
Couldn't say it better myself. And honestly, the passive-agressive competitive vibe I was getting between her and Doa (especially today) gave me a really bad taste in my mouth. Really, shutting him down after slowverlord and collawesome? Tasteosis could have pulled those off.

i find it funny but i understood everything she said, maybe non english speaking countries have easier time with accents or is it just me?

at least she denied artosis that hi5 before going back to singapore. I honestly think that she was very affected by the numerous complaints that were hovering around her, i mean who wouldn't ?

Aw I liked Kelly =( You made a fan out of me, hope to see you back someday. Screw haters.

Well thanks for your efforts Kelly. I don't doubt that the difference between casting live and casting a replay is worlds apart in difficulty. I admire your willingness to put yourself out there, knowing many people would treat you poorly. Hopefully the negativity won't get you down too much. Keep working hard, and your contributions to the SC2 scene will hopefully be appreciated one day.

Can't wait to see if moletrap gets a chance to come to cast :O

Defiantly, guess she's showing her true colors. I think Tasteless would've high fived (a real one, not Artosis version) Doa for those (coll)awesome comments :D

I haven't spoken out against her before, but I really wasn't a fan. Her english certainly wasn't as good as a native speaker, and native speakers are what she is up against.
You can't justify her accent vs. an accent like Australian, British or Irish because those are all natively English.
The fact of the matter is that when you're picking a caster you need a good voice, clarity, personality and knowledge. Her clarity could not match up to a native english speaker which was probably the majority of applicants, and her knowledge of the game left a lot to be desired.
I don't think there is honestly any way to justify picking her over someone like Doa or Moletrap. If she were chosen over them I couldn't help but think it were some kind of play for fanservice by choosing a girl. I hate to say stuff like that, but I can't help but think thats what got her as far as she got because there are certainly people all over that are better qualified.

Too bad, I really like Kelly's casting. I hope she'll be back in the GSL in the future! =)

The real number is closer to hundreds of applicants.
According to John the Translator:
We chose the candidates among hundreds of people who applied for the job. There are many factors that need to be considered in such process. It is one thing to cast in one's private stream and another thing to cast live in front of a camera, in a different country. Therefore it is not just knowledge and speaking ability that are important. http://www.gomtv.net/2011gslsponsors2/forum/62361

Can't say ill miss her. I didn't truly like her casting but im glad she got her chance.
|
And accents aside, she was bad. She could have spoken perfect english, and I still think that she did not deserve the job - I have watched countless commentaries on YouTube/SC2Casts, and at least 75% of those casters are far superior in game knowledge and casting than Kelly IMO.
