If you have butterfingers, you probably shouldn't be a surgeon. If you have a stutter, you probably shouldn't be a salesman. If you have a thick accent, you probably shouldn't be casting Starcraft 2. Kelly didn't deserve all the flak she got for sure, but the complaint people had, that her accent is too thick, was not unfounded.

I wonder if she left behind a decent job in Singapore to pursue her dream, only to see it shattered by legions of internet trolls like us...
Comments like these make me scratch my head. If they're referring to the extremely rude comments that were made, then sure, I was ashamed of those, too. It sounds, however, like some people are suggesting that we shouldn't have complained even if we didn't like her casting, which is as ridiculous and degrading to her as affirmative action and white guilt.
Sure, she has a pair of ovaries and is from Singapore, but what reason is that for treating her differently? She is an adult: she knew the risks she was taking when she left Singapore for Korea. (If she didn't, this has been a valuable lesson to her.)
It's ridiculous to see some of the people in this community flagellating themselves for something that was completely reasonable. Yes, it's regrettable that some people at TL were bad to her, but treat her with the same amount of respect and scrutiny you would any other adult.

Yep, I like that theory very much. It's the simplest one that explains everything I know about the situation (is consistent with the statements from GOM and Kelly I've read). Also talks with GOM seem to favour the theory of point #2. Timeline points to: 16th Feb: Kelly announces herself as caster on her twitter 21st Feb: GSL Code A starts and Kelly casts her first game 21st Feb: Moletrap posts a Youtube video saying he is going to Korean on a TRIAL for 2~3 weeks. 24th Feb: Kelly says she's leaving Korea on 17th March. 9th March: Conspiracy theories that Kelly was never on a trial and the whole trial thing is a lie. GOM made it up over the course of 5 days before Kelly had actually casted anything and ensured Moletrap released a carefully worded Youtube video including a time period and the word trial in order to cover up their mistake of inviting Kelly to cast.
Your timeline is good but cut us some slack. We were just trying to piece together what happened, and working with imperfect information. As I edited my posts in the chain above to say, the February 24 interview with Kelly busts the theory that she was ever hired by GOM to cast Code A indefinitely. But there's still not any evidence (I'm aware of) that GOM had a season-by-season "caster trial" system set up all along (before they hired Kelly).
Given GOM's lack of transparency it's really unfair to brand our speculation as "conspiracy theories". We're actually looking for the simplest explanation, and changing our theory as new information hits this thread. Thanks for raising the Moletrap interview.

I definitely noticed the little things that she tried to improve. How she phrased Zealot for example.
I did find it quite upsetting the extremities that people reacted to her being chosen but I would like to see other casters tried out.
On multiple occasions I felt like she made the cast worse. If the other caster would do something endearing or make a bad/punny joke she would make it way more awkward by looking down and not laughing or responding in anyway. I just don't feel like she would really build rapport with the other caster and it was on her co caster to build that relationship.
Doa has been great and seems to care about there being awkward silences. You need to be able to rely on your co caster to pull you out of those situations as well as having constant eye contact with the camera or the co caster.
I have tweeted Kelly words of encouragement but I am very happy that Gom are looking at what other caster dynamics might be.
The thing that keeps me watching GSL is the foreigners and when it's not the foreigners it has been Tastosis. How they interact with each other is just gold. Their relationship reminds me of JD and Turk from scrubs and that's why I loved that show so much.

I agree to an extent, but you're underestimating shock value. GOM's caster announcements are always surprises. But you could have guessed SCBW would drop from WCG months ago.
I should add: GSL's popularity and profile dwarfs WCG's right now. I'd bet on almost any GSL announcement to get more attention than any WCG announcement.

I am one of the guys that like Kelly even tho she has not been perfect but she has improved so much since the beginning and if she just got a better accent she could have been the girl! And i really like the idea of having a girl for casting...

While I don't really like her casting, there was no excuse for the way the community has treated her over her brief stint in Code A. While her limited game sense and thick accent are valid concerns on an english stream, the amount of hate and ignorant comments that resulted (just look at the GOMTV comment sections on her casts) was really staggering.
I hope this doesn't discourage her from casting, even if she wasn't my style. Good luck to her in whatever she decides to do next  .

I feel that this is true at least for me; I grew accustomed to Tastosis as the GSL casters and kind of saw that as the standard for GSL casting, so in a way, Tastosis being really good may actually make other casters feel lacking. BTW, nice signature, you remember what game that was from?

Actually, people did complain.
There was also a considerably smaller audience, so those complaints were less noticeable. However, SDM made up for his english with very solid BW knowledge, especially about team dynamics, since he was a former coach.
Those who are trying to guilt trip people who wanted her gone really need to give it a rest.

I think the best thing is to say "Ok Kelly, thank you for casting. We wish you the best of luck in the future.". There's not much else to say except I wonder who is replacing her.

Didn't think she would be any good when I heard some of the casting before Code A, but it seemed decent enough to give her the benefit of a doubt before discarding her totally. I think she did fine when she got into it, and undoubtly improved. Her accent wasn't that bad, just had to get used to it, like you would any accent you're not used to. 
Hopefully she'll continue casting and get invited again.

While I am sorry to see someone who has been so involved in the Starcraft Universe and in E-Sports in general, frankly I am glad to see that other casters are being considered. The future of International Korean based E-sports is in the hands of the GSL casters. Lets see what the next candidates have to offer!

Reading the reaction to Kelly really makes me sick. Maybe because I grew up with speech problems and knew how it felt for people to say "Speak English!" to me. I didn't really have any problem understanding Kelly, just was a different accent to get used to. Maybe because I'm in computer scientist and have had to listen to individuals with all kinds of accents at past internships and classes. I thought Kelly had pretty good incites and a good personality. Doa I agree has a clear voice, but he is just boring to listen to. His understanding is even less than Kelly. With that in mind I'll be patient and see if he grows in the next couple weeks.
