Don't get me wrong. I don't intend to come off as rude in any way, but can you point out 1-2 posts regarding Kelly that contained racism on this site? I honestly don't remember ever seeing one and I'm curious.
I wonder if they will pair the upcoming caster with tasteless or artosis for a bit like they did with Kelly. I prefer that over having to caster that are still getting a hold on the ropes.
I think everyone (cept Chill who's conspiracy theories is the most interesting thing in this topic) needs to watch the Day9 and Soe dual commentary. It is an amazing piece of work and show's how to really cast the damn game. Soe's commentary makes you fist-pump at the end.

So many people these days accuse others of being racist with no proof or even an understanding of what it means to be a racist. It's really fucking stupid, I often question people's definition of racism and they give some retarded explanation of what they think it is.

Kelly said that she was only staying in Korea until the 17th of March. It definitely does seem to be a pre-planned decision based on the availability of their applicants for these trials.
edit: LOL, I don't know how to emb Youtube videos. Feel like a noob. edit2: nvm. Figured it out.
This should probably be edited back into the op, if anyone actually catches this and bothers to read it in the first place >_>

You're an asshole. People like you made her leave/get fired (whatever happened). This community has been absolute garbage to her. I honestly feel sorry for Kelly.
Actually we just gave our opinions. What is unfortunate for her is that there was a lot of us. As in any democracy the will of the majority decided the outcome. So good luck in life Kelly but I really hope we do not see you again in GSL.
Next season I can now buy the premium ticket.
I am perfectly fine with people saying her voice wasn't fit for casting. I myself sometimes did not enjoy her casting. However, I got quite upset over the excessive insults to her accent. There are plenty of nicer ways to voice our opinions than the way we did. I'm a native born American. I deal with thick accents everyday in college. Some of my professors have the worst accents I have ever heard. But I learn to deal with it. Took me about 2-3 weeks to get used to it and now I can understand him as if he were also a native born speaker. I feel people never gave her as much of a chance as they should have. The majority have spoken and I agree with them, but not the way they have voiced themselves. Makes me think sometimes that the majority of users on this forum are 14 year old kids or spoiled 30 year olds.

Exactly this. GOM's decision to "test" casters this way is rather selfish of them. The testing and hiring process really ought to happen outside of the regular season matches. With their current system, I could see somebody quitting their job/university to go cast, only to get sent home a month later. Not exactly fair from what I can see.
That is a good female caster. Good voice inflection aka no GIANT pitch high/low scale, very understandable. And can really hype up battles. Wish she had her own computer though, looks like she's backseat gaming, hahaha.
Edit: She's not British, she's German btw.
A bit OT(sorry about that) but that chick is pretty awesome

Yup, more people need to watch this video @2:25. The 1-season long "trial" had been planned even before she got to South Korea. It just wasn't made public by GOM until now.
Or, GOM had simply already told Kelly that (contrary to their original plan not to conduct trials and to employ her indefinitely) she would not be staying on for another season. All this video proves is that Kelly's departure isn't a recent decision. It sheds almost no light on the machinery behind her departure / whether she was fired or her "contract" simply wasn't renewed.
In short: you can't draw the conclusion that you do (that the trial had been planned) from this video.
So the season start at Feb 21, and on Feb 23,24 (by the time the video made), Gom already told Kelly that she is fired after just 1 day of casting? Or Gom is some evil company who made Kelly prepare for her departure to Korea for at least a year, then just told her that she would not stay on for another season right when she landed to Korea?
Sometimes life is simple as it is, she got a chance to trial (or contract for 1 month to wait for Doe and Moletrap, although I don't understand why Gom would go great length to hire 1 random casters and made all the news for 1 month but not contract Tasteless, Astosis, Torch,.v.v.v who already are there to help out 1 month more), she paid all the expense (flight,.vv.v.) as Gom said. Then what's wrong with her to go?
Gom has their reason to test out new casters. If Astosis indeed leaves Korea for NASL as his youtube clip said, Gom need to not only find their code A casters, but code S also.
I'm sure in the upcoming seasons they'll find casters that are better suited for the job and so she won't be returning. I would personally want that at least, but best of luck to her in other endeavors.

she grew up bilingual so she is a native speaker - doesn't mean she is very good though.
Extensive Game knowledge Ability to articulate that knowledge clearly and concisely in English. Be considered entertaining and engaging by a majority (Ideally all) of the paying viewer base. Be professional, showing up on time and interacting well with coworkers.
Objectively, as an employer, I would say that Kelly was 1/4 here... 25% isn't a good score on a review. I don't know if its possible to be objective and not see this.
Bonus points: be so interesting and capable that you draw more viewers than were previously subscribing.
0/1 here as well, as can be seen by the discrepancy between code A viewers this season compared with last.
This is pretty clearly a case of "not being re-hired" as opposed to "being fired".. I don't think she was let go for these things... but if GOM was holding tryouts for casters, and they found someone that was 5+1 out of 5+1 on this sheet... why would they not just re-hire them?
On March 10 2011 05:14 Termit wrote: Really, she isnt that good of a caster. Some people are just not ment to be casters and Kellys high pitched voice is not a good caster voice. But if she still wanna be a professional caster she should: 1. Take voice lessons. 2. Get a neutral accent. 3. Learn how to pronounce units correctly, "the race cars"... cmon.
It's also nice in a way that people give her some shit because to many females has it to easy in esports just because they are girls.
Once you're older than 15 your accent in a second or third language sticks with you. If you are younger you will get rid of it or learn to speak the language without the accent, once you are past that age any language you learn will have an accent. "Get a neutral accent" by far the dumbest most ignorant thing I have seen in a while.
Dude, are you dumb? Why do you think every sports caster has the same accent, because they come from the same pond? No because they learn how to get rid of there horrible accent. Just because you're over 15 years old and doesn't have english as your native language it isn't impossible to remove your accent. Haha...
Hm, I'm posting this because this post makes me believe some education may be needed:
Basically, children are very capable of changing pronounciation and learning a new language based on their surroundings. This ability declines with age. It may not be impossible but it may actually be more than you can reasonably ask for.
That is not a defence of any specific person. And it's not saying that you should accept how someone speaks english just because they can't be asked to change their accent. But it does mean that you can't continue making posts like that.
You're from Sweden, so you know who Alexander Skarsgård is. When he played the lead in Generation Kill he took accent classes so he would sound as American as possible. He did a pretty good job:
You know how silly a Swedish-English accent really can sound. And you don't need to bring up that in Sweden we are exposed to English all the time through TV and music, because English is an official language in Singapore. I've been to Singapore and all the natives (not recent immigrants from like Nepal or Malaysia) speak English from a very early age. So yes it is very possible to change your accent even if you are above 15 years old. If not perfect it, at least make yourself a lot more understandable.
I think we as viewers can demand someone who is understandable. Take Artosis for example, he used to have some regional American accent but now speaks in a more generic accent. Just like news casters here in Sweden, most of them speak rikssvenska (standard Swedish), they usually don't hire someone with a obscure thick accent like östgötska, värmländska or småländska. And just like when I turn on my TV in Sweden I dont want to hear småländska. When I am watching my favorite program, GOM, I dont want to think about the casters English, I just want to enjoy the cast and the game.
To please the largest number of viewers possible, they need someone who does not have an obscure accent! But that is not the most important part, they need someone so comfortable in the English language so it does not hinder their casting. They need a native English speaker. Unfair to all of the non-native English casters? Yes. But its the way it is. I am not a native English speaker myself, but its the way it is. If a lot of their viewers complain that they cant understand, then how can they keep her, GSL is nothing without viewers.
Its funny how some people are trying to turn this in to some kind of "ignorant thing", where the persons who have problems understanding her are "ignorant" and "need to realize that most people have English as their second language and its quite difficult for them QQ.. QQ.. QQ". Im not a native English speaker either.. but I want one to cast for me!! Either that or in rikssvenska or västmanländska, which is best?
On March 10 2011 05:57 SpiffD wrote: Wow, I can't believe how many native English speakers can be so arrogant about this issue. It isn't good enough for you that the rest of the world is learning your language, they also have to have the "correct" accent?
Are you serious? You're really holding it against English speakers that the world is structured in such a way that people learn English for casting/business etc.? You're such a prick. It is not my decision to have GOM stream in English. I would watch if it was Korean only. Given that they are streaming in English, why the hell is it unreasonable to request a caster that can actually speak english fluently?
Even if someone has a deep understanding of the game, they can't be a good caster if they are unable to articulate their thoughts in the language that they have to cast. When there are so many good casters willing to do the job, how are you going to say it is unreasonable for fans to request that the most qualified person gets the job?
I think your anti-English speaking bias is disgusting and offensive. There are many accents in the English language (British, Canadian, Australian, and a variety of different American variations)... what accent the caster speaks in is completely irrelevant. The point is that if they know the language well then they will be able to effectively communicate everything they need to. Sorry to say but it is glaringly obvious that Kelly is not capable of this. I don't doubt that she understands the game quite well - she just can't communicate her understanding effectively.
How many times you hear her say "You do see that terran is expanding", or "Actually, xxxxx".
I implore you to look at casters/commentators of ANY sport, regardless of accent or language. Are any of them incapable of communicating their understanding of the sport/game in question because of a language barrier? I didn't think so. Thats the point - its not about some arrogant "english-speaking" decision to hate on anyone that speaks with a different accent.
*edit* btw I'm not a native English speaker.
First of all. It's not unreasonable to make such a request and GOM can do whatever they want. If the majority of the community want her replaced so be it - it's GOM's decision.
I was just stating that as a non-native speaker myself I find it offensive when native speakers of English mock a person for their accent when they are in fact totally understandable (to me, at least).
Also, way to over-react in your post. It really doesn't serve the discussion and I think it was totally uncalled for based on what I originally posted.
