I feel sorry for her, but I don't like her as a caster at all.

I can certainly sympathize with Kelly in that she received a lot of criticism, and that it can be hard to swallow for anyone. But I have to say that much of the criticism was totally valid, and maybe kelly just bit over a bit too much in this instance. She has potential, but taking on one of the biggest jobs in sc2 casting is not the place to start.

LEAVE KELLY ALONE
Most of the community was spoiled by Tastosis. When you go from Tastosis or day9 to any other commentators you just feel the difference. I dont think the haters made any difference tbh.

Pretty sure half the people here would complain if GOM hired a british caster because "he has an accent"...
Seriously.

I'm happy about this change. I watched a few Code A matches, and I could understand her, the problem is I actually had to consciously try and understand her because of her accent, and this is coming from someone who is from Toronto and deals with a ton of non-native english speakers on a daily basis with no problem whatsoever.

Seriously. And how is that wrong/bad? People should be allowed to voice their opinion.

You're completely out of whack. Generally, people enjoy British accents. But what's that have to do with anything?

Maybe not true, but at least I can justify the logic in my head as opposed to the current things GOM are saying. You don't think they hired Kelly indefinitely, but backed off and brought Moletrap in once the community blew up over it? And are now using the bit about trial casters to make Kelly's departure look better for both GOM and Kelly? It's certainly possible and does make more sense. I'm modifying the theory! GOM Evil Theory rev. 2.1:1. GOM puts out a call for casters and reviews all applicants 2. GOM focuses on availability moreso than ability. 3. Kelly is the most available and is hired immediately and openly. 4. DoA is also hired but requires a month due to real life. 5. Kelly has largely negative feedback. 6. GOM announces the "trial" and contacts Moletrap. 7. Moletrap announces he will go to Korea. 8. The trial period ends. What do you think? BTW I've been playing a lot of Phoenix Wright hahaha. Actually I remember Wolf ( another applicant ) saying "Just wait guys , just wait..." in one of the first Kelly Hate Threads. Wolf joined FXO after that so I don't know if it really means something but still , you may wanna include that to your theory.
Actually Wolf said
Don't worry... I keep telling you guys. Don't worry.
What's wrong with doing both?
It seems weird that they are flying in and trying out so many casters
I'd hate to be a rumormonger but is there the slightest of possibility that Artosis and Tasteless might be tempted to move out of Korea / back to the West? I thought of this since i saw the Artosis WCG video and his reactions to it. This guy truly loves the game as a PLAYER. He consistently refers to that day as the worst day of his life and i get the impression that for Artosis, nothing will replace the joy of playing and competing. Then i saw his NASL application and of course it coincides with his free time. But i think he would absolutely love it if he gets into a sponsored team and can travel to mlg/dreamhack and so on. I also think that the main reason that they needed free time aside from the health issues were that Artosis want to have more time playing and do a "comeback" as a competitive player.
Coupled with the fact that Tasteless is from EG and of course as we know now, EG has (temporarily) abandon their plans in Korea. A lot of opportunites abound as well. MLG expansions, NASL, IEM, Dreamhacks. There will be no shortage of people who wants to hire Tasteless and offer him very very very good money.
Of course this is nothing but speculation and most likely just a hot air. But GSL without Tastosis is a scary thought.

Also, americans actually subtitled a british dude in "The ultimate fighter" series (dont remember what season), because his "accent was thick".... I think its more about people not being around other people with different accents (different countries, not different states) than people having not-understandable accents.

Wow, I can't believe how many native English speakers can be so arrogant about this issue. It isn't good enough for you that the rest of the world is learning your language, they also have to have the "correct" accent?

Some of you really need to learn the history of Esports and know how lucky you are that there are more and more English speaking casters out there.
I not loving this new Generation. There is a percentage of this generation that seem to think they are ENTITLED to everything.
A lot of us watched Streams/Vods with Korean cast. Learn to appreciate what you have. If people "appreciated what they had" all the time, we'd still be living in caves eating raw snake for dinner. Striving for perfection and trying to achieve dreams is one of the defining characteristics of being human, why stop just "because it's e-sports"? Personally I want e-sports to keep getting bigger and better, not rest on its laurels and coast from now on. Yes lets all eat raw snakes for dinner. Would you like your significant other to comments on your Bed Abilities similar to what the 'a-hole percentage' of the community commented about Kelly's casting abilities? But hey she/he is just striving for perfection. Nothing is wrong with wanting perfection. It's the way you strive for it that makes the difference. Making insulting comments like what I've seen here is not wanting perfection. It's just childish.
That's a completely irrelevant comparison you offered, because no-one is giving me money to have sex with them. (To my eternal regret).
Negative feedback is perfectly acceptable. Deaththreats, insults, and all that other childish shit isn't of course, but that's not what I'm discussing here, I've already given my opinion on that.
If I'm paying for a service, I want it to be good. If it isn't good, and the majority of other paying customers agree with me, it should be no surprise when the thing that isn't good gets changed.

I feel bad that she has to go home, but it was the right decision for avid GSL fans.

Ive grown up bilingual (dutch and norwegian) and have no accent in either of these languages because of that. I have dutch friends in norway who have thick accents, as well as my mother and my father (father with a thick dutch accent when he speaks norwegian, and mother vice versa). Theyve spoken "eachothers language" for 15yrs+ and still there is an accent... You cannot unlearn an accent just like that...
For example: Arnold Schwarzenegger has a thick austrian accent - and yet hes played in movies and lived in the US for years.
Either way, her english was perfectly understandable, and english is my 3rd language - seeing canadians and americans complain that they can't understand her says more about your non-experience dealing with non-americans/canadians than her "bad english".
pretty much this. I still find it funny how people commenting on her accent and theyr'e from a country with a primary language of english and yet cant understand her.

Well, certain accents are surely harder to understand universally.

The justification is that it is not English if we can barely understand it. I do not know if it is us, but I understood her really well. I guess it has something to do with listening to non-native English speakers all the time in thousands of different accents.

I wanna say sry Kelly, but most of the comunity arent a bunch of haters...
You did great!

as a person with an Asian accent, i really feel for her. now i can cross out SCcaster along side with rapper and voice actor as dream jobs i can never get due to my accent.
but as an SC fan i am kinda glad that she is done. her accent is really hard to understand. and yes i hate the sound of my own voice.
|
IT DOESNT MATTER if they think they have to learn it
some people could NOT understand her or just found her voice very annoying (im in the 2nd group, and it doesnt have much to do with her being asian)
arrogance doesnt have anything to do with it. She has a job to do and if half gom's customers are unsatisfied they had to change something.
