kinda feel the same way here. though I spent a few months in singapore listening to singlish, so maybe others can't parse her accent as well =/

Maybe not true, but at least I can justify the logic in my head as opposed to the current things GOM are saying.
You don't think they hired Kelly indefinitely, but backed off and brought Moletrap in once the community blew up over it? And are now using the bit about trial casters to make Kelly's departure look better for both GOM and Kelly?
It's certainly possible and does make more sense. I'm modifying the theory!
GOM Evil Theory rev. 2.1: 1. GOM puts out a call for casters and reviews all applicants 2. GOM focuses on availability moreso than ability. 3. Kelly is the most available and is hired immediately and openly. 4. DoA is also hired but requires a month due to real life. 5. Kelly has largely negative feedback. 6. GOM announces the "trial" and contacts Moletrap. 7. Moletrap announces he will go to Korea. 8. The trial period ends.
What do you think? BTW I've been playing a lot of Phoenix Wright hahaha.
Actually I remember Wolf ( another applicant ) saying "Just wait guys , just wait..." in one of the first Kelly Hate Threads. Wolf joined FXO after that so I don't know if it really means something but still , you may wanna include that to your theory.
I'm 99% sure Wolf was saying just wait about getting signed to FXO.

Some of you really need to learn the history of Esports and know how lucky you are that there are more and more English speaking casters out there.
I not loving this new Generation. There is a percentage of this generation that seem to think they are ENTITLED to everything.
A lot of us watched Streams/Vods with Korean cast. Learn to appreciate what you have.
If people "appreciated what they had" all the time, we'd still be living in caves eating raw snake for dinner. Striving for perfection and trying to achieve dreams is one of the defining characteristics of being human, why stop just "because it's e-sports"? Personally I want e-sports to keep getting bigger and better, not rest on its laurels and coast from now on.
If she wants to improve, first thing she needs to do is fix that Singaporean accent. It might be acceptable in Singapore and Malaysia but it's just not acceptable outside that.
Indians speak perfect English grammatically, but would you accept an Indian caster with a thick Indian accent?
I'm glad others will be given a chance, hopefully they will have american or english accents.
Things that Kelly should improve on if she wants a better reception: 1. Practice your american or english accent. Plenty of actors have to do this to get better paying acting jobs in America. I am assuming, based on the comments I've heard in this forum and at GSL's forum, that a large percentage of the foreign viewers for GSL prefer american and english accents, someone correct me if I'm wrong here.
2. Improve your humor, you have to be funny when there's nothing going on (like in between matches, or when both players are macroing up) . There's been many occasions in which Artosis was working hard on keeping the casts interesting, coming up with great jokes, and he'd look at Kelly for help and she's either looking down at a paper or nodding her head at him.
3. Don't apologize profusely, it's very annoying when someone continues to apologize when they've already received forgiveness. A recent example was the first day Doa casted with Kelly, it was during a game in Shakuras and she interrupted him and then kept saying sorry for the next several minutes. Thankfully Doa handled that situation like an expert. You're supposed to say sorry once, that's it.

I think that she did a good job this season, and I wonder who will be her replacement for next season? Maybe moletrap? I think that would be pretty cool. However I would be pretty happy if she eventually gets the full time position.
On March 10 2011 05:09 No_Roo wrote: Just a point on people citing her thick accent and comparing it to other think accents: The distinction to be made with kelly is not just the way the words coming out of her mouth sound, or the value of those words, it's more about the dropped words and combined words. Her spoken sentence structure is extremely difficult to parse _quickly_ due to verb conjugation issues and missing or improper articles etc.
You can test this by transcribing to plain text what she is saying, then reading the text (removing the accent from the equation).
Any way, again, best of luck to her, I am however looking forward to meeting the new caster for next season.
Actually, it's not hard at all to understand what she means. You people need to be around non-whites more often lol
You need to realize not many people are native english-speakers. I have talked English on skype etc. numerous times and needed to fully concentrate to understand what she was saying and it was really hindering the watching experience.
This is a great point. I always thought she was easily understandable, but I am native born english speaker, i would imagine being non-native english would make it quite difficult

Kelly said that she was only staying in Korea until the 17th of March. It definitely does seem to be a pre-planned decision based on the availability of their applicants for these trials.
edit: LOL, I don't know how to emb Youtube videos. Feel like a noob. edit2: nvm. Figured it out.
Yup, more people need to watch this video @2:25. The 1-season long "trial" had been planned even before she got to South Korea. It just wasn't made public by GOM until now.
Edit: the video's date probably means that Kelly was never hired to cast Code A indefinitely. But the video doesn't establish that GOM had in place a formal caster trial system from the start.
Being racist, predujist, or just an asshole has nothing to do with it. I think she is an amazing person and the fact that she knows more about the game than 98% of the retards that are threatening her makes her an amazing person.
The fact of the matter is that I'm paying for my gom.tv pass and when I can't understand/stand the voice of a person casting matches that I really want to see I feel as if my money isn't well spent and I should just wait for someone on TL to post the match updates. I have great respect for her as a person but I do not think she should pursue a career as an English commentator.

Why would he said that in a GSL & Kelly thread tho? That Post
Whatever , I'm happy with Doa & Moletrap , or anyone I guess...
On March 10 2011 05:14 Termit wrote: Really, she isnt that good of a caster. Some people are just not ment to be casters and Kellys high pitched voice is not a good caster voice. But if she still wanna be a professional caster she should: 1. Take voice lessons. 2. Get a neutral accent. 3. Learn how to pronounce units correctly, "the race cars"... cmon.
It's also nice in a way that people give her some shit because to many females has it to easy in esports just because they are girls.
Once you're older than 15 your accent in a second or third language sticks with you. If you are younger you will get rid of it or learn to speak the language without the accent, once you are past that age any language you learn will have an accent. "Get a neutral accent" by far the dumbest most ignorant thing I have seen in a while.
Dude, are you dumb? Why do you think every sports caster has the same accent, because they come from the same pond? No because they learn how to get rid of there horrible accent. Just because you're over 15 years old and doesn't have english as your native language it isn't impossible to remove your accent. Haha...
You shouldn't call someone dumb and then reply with a post full of grammatical errors. That simply points out that you're an idiot well before you even have the chance to confirm that you're an idiot through the idiotic point you try to make.
When people are past a certain age, and have to learn a new language, they will retain an accent.
Sportscasters don't have to learn a new language, unless you know of a sports station that's crawling with non-native speakers? You can learn to alter your inflection/tone of voice, but you can't beat an accent in most cases.
Unfortunately, the Asian accent is not super appealing...not really much she can do about that.
ps: So when is Total Buscuit coming over? Or is he too high profile to do code A's?
Where did I call him dumb? I just asked if he was. Also english isn't my native language so why would I have perfect grammar? The funny part is that you can't see that I asked him a question on your native language. Also, Singapore speak english so I don't see how she has to learn new language lol.
Obviously English is not your first language because what you did is the equivalent of calling someone dumb. I assumed the expression went across languages, but alas, what do I know.
I like this result, whether she was fired or it really was a trial i think this is best overall as the majority seemed to dislike her casting (i personally havnt watched code a since the first few rounds), i wish her good luck in promoting Sc2 in the SEA region though, that place needs more love.
I have no hard feelings towards her. I don't care that she has an accent. I gave her a chance, I'm glad she's not going to be casting Code A, and I hope they find someone that I don't have to try to decipher words to understand.

Just like Steve Irwin shouldve fixed that Australian accent before being on US tv? Or is that acceptable.
