I would be happy if it would be an improved version of bc2 or a much improved version of bf2. But please please for the love of god not another boring CoD game.
Why does the gameplay remind you of CoD? They spend the majority of the trailer doing things that kids with ADD wouldn't like, which is walking through an eerily silent city for so long before seeing any action. And the action part isn't even like CoD. Oh yeah, they shoot guns and look down iron sights, fyi CoD didn't invent that.
fyi: walking through an eerily silent tunnel happend in ever CoD I can remember (you can call it city all you want, but its basically a tunnel). action part seems exactly like CoD, you encounter a bunch of enemies, you shoot them down, your teammates get killed and "get up" after the stage is complete and then you continue.

if bf3 doesnt have infinitely respawning enemies until you reach a checkpoint though, it could be pretty good.
Look, games today can only do so much. Of course a shooter set in the same setting that goes for realistic graphics is going to end up looking very similar. And besides a really realistic shooter is not something that people would actually want to play. I think the trailer was fantastic.
It pains me to see what Dice is doing to this once great franchise , every Bf-game after 2142 has been a generic console half-assed shooter with no interesting additions to gameplay , nothing innovative where "realism" has hindered fun gameplay in more than one way. But that's just what I think.

:O. Have you ever played a battlefield game after 2142? Man this bf3 is almost more like BF2 then Bad company 2 I just dont' see where you get this crazy logic :S
What pains me is the Maps DLC that are already announced... combine it with no SDK for the community to make maps and we have a game that will not last long.

This is just by judging from the video since it looks like the weight and the feel of BF3 resembles a CoD game at the moment. If you look at the Bad Company series perspective to that video, then you'll understand what I'm trying to say. This is just my first impressions right now since it's still early until the game's release.
I disagree with the fear that BF3 will become another CoD.
Lately, CoD has become absolutely over-the-top with constant action and ridiculous storylines. MW2 and Black Ops are very arcade-ish shooters with very little realism.
On the other hand, it seems that BF3 is going in the opposite direction from CoD by opting for a more realistic, gritty portrayal of combat. I like how in the video, the actual shooting action only comes at the end while the rest of the video involves a very tense patrol through an eerily quiet city.
Dice themselves have said that they want the BF3 single player to be a much more varied and realistic experience compared to CoD. I forgot the analogy they used, but I think it was along the lines that if CoD was a hit pop song, BF3 will be a full symphony with varying periods of tension and action.
I'm quite excited to see the final product. It seems that Dice is really trying to outdo anything else in the market, and by the looks of it, they are succeeding.
Battlefield 1942 and 2 were about as arcade as you get, I hope Battlefield doesn't become about tacticool attachments and gritty grimdark visuals like every other shooter.
The BF is hardly arcad-ish :0 Medics, leading shots. I take it you've never played CoD
it's funny how there are so few "realistic" shooters nowadays that BF is actually less arcadey than most shooters now that I think about it :\
BF is arcadey, just not as much as CoD
I guess I just haven't played enough "realistic shooters" to compare it to. (Mainly because I find them extremely boring :p )

Lucky for you, according to the IGN preview of the BF3 demonstration at GDC:
There will be no respawning waves of enemies here. Every encounter has a finite amount of hostiles that react dynamically to the demands of battle.

BF2 is still going with pretty much no custom map support. There's a map editor, but custom maps can't be played on ranked servers and no one plays on unranked servers.
Most of the Youtube mirrors have already been taken down.
Anyways, it looks like the game is shaping up quite nicely. On one hand, I can see how some people are worrying that it might turn into another CoD. On the other hand, the end of the video show some very exciting glimpses into large-scale tank combat and even some Ace Combat-style jet combat.
I am so excited after seeing that leaked video. I wonder if streets as large as that would be in the multiplayer. The sounds are amazing and the layered destruction (earthing cracking the streets) is beautiful.
What tops it off is that they're showing all the demos by PC... hopefully it stays that way.
If DICE released a SDK, then EA will get no income by screwing us with expensive DLC. And think of those poor console players, they will feel betrayal!

Its the same excuse if they remove custom maps on SC2 Expansion.

SC2 custom maps != BF2 custom maps
Most SC2 custom maps people actually play feel like completely different games from normal melee games. Custom maps in BF2 (or pretty much any FPS) are basically the same gameplay in different locations.
Single bullets do that much realistic damage? Holllllyyy fuck, and rockets aren't just "hit a wall and a single square gets blocked out", it seems fucking amazing with the ripples and crap
Holy shit, if the gameplay is solid, this can easily be the game of the year.
Sadly it's still probably going to the CoD that is coming out this year most likely ;-;
