The decision is a lot less complicated, and there's a lot less room for speculations than people want to think. Put simply: there aren't many good zergs out there, and ROOT has ALWAYS scouted for potential and built our own players. we observed and played with Destiny plenty before he got an invite. Is he ROOT level? not yet. Does he have the potential to be? Absolutely, he has amazing potential, great game sense, a fully functioning brain and good mechanics, just needs some fine tuning. Soon enough he will be a beast, so see it as an 'investment' if you will. He's a great guy, fun to be around with, and most importantly, dedicated to the game and with the right mindset and goals that everyone in ROOT shares in common.
Try and think of any ROOT player before they joined ROOT... aside from Minigun who was already at the top of the ladder, no one was 'known' so to say. Is DdoRo well known? not as much as some of our other members, but we recruited him because he has the potential to become a beast, and he has been doing well lately and posting great results, so has Minigun.
Minigun had never won a tournament, and when I recruited him to join ROOT, he was probably 1-10 against me, not exaggerating, you could ask him yourself. Last time I played Minigun, I got raped. Magic? no. We scouted for Potential and that's what pays off for us, its what we've done from the start and what we plan to do in the future.
ROOT never had the luxury of having sponsors from the start or a well known name to work with and recruit whoever we wanted, but we did have enough experience and dedication to identify skill and potential and did the best we could with the knowledge and goals we had.
PiQLiQ is a great player sure, I don't nessesarily like him and I beat him the last few times we played, but he's certainly very smart and has tons of potential. Would we have considered PiQLiQ? maybe if we needed a Protoss, but at this point in time we needed a Zerg, and if there's another pickup it'll be a Terran, and you probably shouldn't even try to guess, because if we do end up recruiting one, it'll probably be based on potential, talent and dedication, like we've always done.
So, welcome Steven<3! and thank you to all of our supporters, please check out our website where the full interviews are located, and feel free to leave comments there as well.
Love you all, c u.

I can see ROOT using Destiny as a ZvZ snipe in Team Tournaments.
|
fan since beta. best stream on TL. if you don't like this guy it says about your personality.
pretty sure it won't take long and this guy is gonna be one of the best zergs out there.
good job root
|
Congrats and good luck Destiny and Root!
|
Grats Destiny hope to see you at more tournaments now.
|
Perfect fit, kudos to ROOT!
|
Great! I only recently started tuning in to his stream but he's an interesting and innovative player. Maybe the issues surrounding featuring his stream can be resolved
|
definitely a good deal for both sides. could easily bring a lot to the team - both in talent and personality. can't wait to see what he does.

I think you guys should get PiQLiQ in some of your training sessions ^^
I know you guys always say how ROOT has no A team or B team, but based on your post it seems that DdoRo and Destiny are slightly lower on your depth chart.
However, this is my personal opinion on your A team and B team + Show Spoiler + Completely based on how much I like each player, that is: A Team: CatZ, drewbie, Mini B Team: Steve, qxc, Kiwi
I like Jungho and Slush but I don't watch their streams nearly as much XD
|
My favourite team just got more awesome ^^
And yes I definatly agree, I have been following destiny's stream since the beta, and I had seen him interact with a lot of higher level players in the last weeks, including some root people recently, and I was kinda hoping he got picked up by root.
So I'm looking forward to seeing him improve to a level where he can compete with the top, and not only is this good for him, but to me it also seems good for root because let's face it, even if he has been a bit of a "loner", the guy is very popular and well known.
|
Sweet pickup, looking forward to seeing more destiny
|
Not gonna lie, that retard magnet video just made me a fan. gogo root fighting
|
It's good for both sides, personally speaking. The funny, albeit R18, side of Steven masks the potential he has I think. Even though he rages a lot and does a lot of unorthodox strats, it helps the game grow and creates this dont-need-to-be-like-them atmosphere to it. Add to this the incredible team he has now, it will be an incredible partnership imho.
Looking forward to the growth of steven. And, of course, can't wait to see him stream his games against minigun and his "unstoppable" 4 gate strat again! lol!

Very excited to have Steven aboard, thanks for sticking with us fans, root 4 root!

I said we don't have a "B" team and we don't. and DdoRo is not lower than anyone, he all killed Fnatic not long ago and won a couple of smaller sized tournaments. He just hasn't had as much exposure as the rest, or chances to prove himself, as he was one of our later recruits Steven isn't bad by any means, but isn't at his full potential yet, but we wouldn't recruit anyone who wasn't meant to excel at this game.

Congrats to ROOT.Destiny, about time he got a team

The night Mini beat Steven for the $50, we watched about 6 games of chad vs paulo, and chad vs steve. Chad was undefeated from literally about 15 games.
Dudes a motherfucking monster.
Comment about there "not being many good zergs right now" is extremely valid too. I look forward to watching not only ROOT develop, but also Destiny. Also look forward to a Zerg buff to see what Steve is actually capable of.

It's amazing to see someone like destiny being in one of the best team. Congrats and have fun!

grats Steven Bonnell the 2nd, Esquire.
