Seriously though, this is great news. I can't wait to see Chinese SC2 gamers as they have a pretty good competitive scene going on there.

Another contributing reason why WC 3 eSports really took off in China is due to the sudden rise of a Chinese WC 3 super star (Sky). It was similar to how the Korean BW scene got jump started by Boxer. At the moment there is no such figure in the Chinese SC 2 scene (Loner, though good, just isn't the next Sky/Boxer, and has been relatively disappointing in the GSL), so we'll have to see whether SC 2 becomes the next WC 3 in China or fizzles out like BW did.

No you cannot. No pirate sc2 exists, and even if it exists it's no fun without b.net.

It's more complicated than that. From what I understand, most Chinese players do not play at home. They play at net cafes, which supposedly buy licensed copies of the game for their outfits. However, this is China we're talking about and anti-piracy enforcement is lax, so I wouldn't be surprised if many or most of these net cafes run pirated copies. Nonetheless, this is the commercial model that exists in China and if Blizzard is not able to adapt to it, then SC 2 won't take off there.

I should stop talking about China in combination with totalitarian dictatorship or this site will be blocked within China. User was warned for this post You do realize what happened last time people tried that right...... Not to mention vast majority of Chinese are quite satisfied with their government as a whole.

You'd be surprised lol I agree with the second part tho, but ppl will figure some way to play it on pirated platforms, sooner or later. I love B.net though, now only if blizz go back to what they had 5 years ago.....

Now it's hard to make an argument that No working adult wants games off bit torrent. btw, not supporting piracy, but saying chinese love pirated games more than anyone else is stupid. Everyone wants the game for free, it's just some places have more strict laws while some others dont.

Everyone wants the game for free, it's just some places have more strict laws while some others dont. Chinese gamers don't like to, or can't, pay large lump sums for their games. They, however, have no problem with paying for games as long as it is in micro transactions. SC 2 will never be as popular as Warcraft 3 in China as long as you can't either a) pirate it or b) Blizzard release the game as free to play in China with micro transactions.

I like how people are also saying that the Chinese are going to be amazing at macro and micro, as if they have an extra muscle in their hand or something. Racism is often subtle
