I hope a release of a Chinese version will speed up the creation of Starcraft 2 LAN mode

wow this will be so huge. china's progaming culture is really developed especially they have Chengdu, the Esports province.

I heard Dota are also approaching progaming level ( ie you can live with your salary and have fans paying stuff) and of course wc3 is also big there.

This will open such an interesting possibility to the development of Esports probably in a good way.

They should be on SEA! So we get our fair share of beastly players! One can wish, can't I? Hehe

Anyway, this is great news for the Chinese. I'm sure they've been itching to play.

Do you guys think the single player story will be the same as the versions from the rest of the world? I mean, it is a pretty straightforward revolution story against a dictatorship.... maybe the hood fits the head.

Don't they have harsh gaming laws that keep most of thier citzens with very limited time to game in recent years? I can see that really hindering or making China's involvement in esports irrelevent, not that i know the situation to well.

Finally, this is great news. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few Chinese gamers owing it up in the foreign scene in the upcoming months.

The question occurs: Was Loner playing the game illegally then? Or does this only mean people couldn’t buy it in China while they were still allowed to play it?

I think people could legally buy the Taiwanese version in China, though there was no official Chinese version on sale or available due to the game still being processed by the Chinese bureaucracy. Also, there was no Chinese server, so Chinese players had to play through other Asian servers.

Loner was probably playing the game legally, though it was probably through the Taiwanese client and not a mainland Chinese one.

This approval from the government probably means that an official localized Chinese version can now be sold and distributed instead of the Taiwanese one, which could possibly mean that a Chinese server could probably be up soon.

Loner plays on Korea primarily, I think.

Im very excited to see how SC2 unfolds in China, as long as its priced right it should be awesome.

Well I wonder whether this leads to the death of Wc3 in China. All in all if China emerges as a 3rd power in SC2 this might mean even more offline tournaments and due to the shorter flight distance it is something that will be beneficial especially to those players that are residents in SK like the Liquid-guys.

So does every other developed country
A game where the first thing you do is scout with a “worker”. Does that make any sense? Who scouts with a “worker”? That’s like sending out the janitor to perform recon, what general would do that? Retarded game.

This is a big win for Blizzard, and also a really good news for sc2 in general and the chinese community.

If they play with the SEA servers, that'd be great, as every communication with the outside world is great for the chinese population, however I doubt that's gonna happen.
China will probably have their own server that the government will have control over.

I really hope China gets its own server, if only just to see what talent besides Loner is in China.

If SC2 takes off anything like WC3 did in China, we have a LOT of new strong competition on the way. SC2 growing!

I guess China will need a year or so to catch up with the current international scene.

Didnt you here it only took Athene 40 games :/

But seriously this is great news for sc2 and for China, if it exploded there we could get some serious competition going worldwide.

To clarify some things. Loner (and any other chinese player playing SC2) is NOT playing the game illegally, the Chinese goverment has waited until now to allow the game to be released in China (for whatever reasons they have, rangeing from 'domestic product protection' to 'unnapropriate ingame stuff').
It was howeverr not illegal to buy a Taiwanese/US/EU/SEA/KR version of the game, the chinese version of the game (simplified chinese compared to the Taiwanese traditional chinese) just hadn't passed all the requirements for being released in china yet (and very likely the ministry of culture had no rush doing so). All games go through this process.
As far as I'm concerned gaming in china is not limited by whatever 'harsh gaming law' there are however several specific online games (this DOES NOT include WoW) that have a daily limited play time.
Youtube isn't illegal in china either, it's just censored and you have to pay extra money monthly to have acces to it, same goes for facebook etc. I think this is mainly done to stimulate domestic products (e.g: youku.com, renren.com etc.) correct me if i'm wrong here though.

Anyway this is fcking awesome, missed this news when i checked the chinese site earlier today, maybe it wasn't up yet. I wonder though, what they will do with the price, because 40euro will be like 400RMB which is quite some money for an average Chinese person to spend on a video game. Can't wait to see an official release date for the game. Made my day :-D

edit: according to sc2.com.cn the chinese release is Q2 2011
http://www.sc2.com.cn/1102/161618391733.html

edit 2: miss translated, it should be 'before Q2 2011'.
The game was approved jan 19, confirmed by blizzard, NetEase and Ministry of culture ( source = same link)

SC2 in China is already pretty big and Loner isn't performing all that well in the Chinese ACS cups ( they've had like 26 so far) There are also some well established Chinese SC2 gaming teams (Nv to name one), most of 'm playing in the Korean ladder. With several players hitting Korean top200 very regulary and i've seen some chinese players in Korean top100 (around 80 if i remember correct).
XiaOt for example is playing pretty damn solid lately, and if i'm not mistaking, should check actually, but is leading in ACS cup wins.
